We Throw Birthday Parties.

Ah. Where to begin? It's difficult to know what to get for a man of such formidable range and power. Let the ladies sing and the children boogie. And it never hurts to also let more ladies sing.

In fact let all men, from every walk of life and every era join together in honor of his name.

And if they're not down with that, I say let 'em go to hell their own way. We got to keep on moving and can't stop until we're done. And we ain't never done.....

That means we have a birthday to celebrate!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Administrator

How about a little Birthday Cake?

Don't forget to blow out your candles!

It should come as no surprise to any of us that Jeff shares his birthday with such visionaries as:
Bob Crane

Leroy Vinnegar

Albert Ayler

Roger McGuinn
and
Cheech Marin

Would you have liked a present too?
"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

The birthday attention, I've never been good with it. And yet I do love it so.

Thanks annie, you're too much!

Hugh, I'm sorry to hear about you love life, but the image of you casually leaning on your ten speed and hittin' on drop-dead stunning chicks has given me whole new perspective. And its flippy. Real flippy.

Happy Birthday, Jeff! (You're still one day younger than me.) To mark the occasion, here are three minutes and twenty-seven seconds of 80s delight that maybe never made it to Canada.

Dylan it ain't, but I always loved this song -- and all the faces in this video, especially on the 39-second, 1.47 and 1:59 (what a smile!) marks.

"I was cocky; too cocky. ... I was toe-to-toe with him. ... One of his chums drew his weapon and impaled me, through the back. Curious sensation, actually. Not much pain. Shock ... a certain giddy warmth..."

Ahem.

Here, Patrick Stewart describes the 'absolutely exhilarating' screenplay he's written:

and many returns of the day.

Lo! Death has reared himself a throne
In a strange city lying alone
Far down within the dim West,
Where the good and the bad and the worst and the best
Have gone to their eternal rest.
There shrines and palaces and towers
(Time-eaten towers that tremble not!)
Resemble nothing that is ours.
Around, by lifting winds forgot,
Resignedly beneath the sky
The melancholy waters lie.

No rays from the holy heaven come down
On the long night-time of that town;
But light from out the lurid sea
Streams up the turrets silently-
Gleams up the pinnacles far and free-
Up domes- up spires- up kingly halls-
Up fanes- up Babylon-like walls-
Up shadowy long-forgotten bowers
Of sculptured ivy and stone flowers-
Up many and many a marvellous shrine
Whose wreathed friezes intertwine
The viol, the violet, and the vine.
Resignedly beneath the sky
The melancholy waters lie.
So blend the turrets and shadows there
That all seem pendulous in air,
While from a proud tower in the town
Death looks gigantically down.

There open fanes and gaping graves
Yawn level with the luminous waves;
But not the riches there that lie
In each idol's diamond eye-
Not the gaily-jewelled dead
Tempt the waters from their bed;
For no ripples curl, alas!
Along that wilderness of glass-
No swellings tell that winds may be
Upon some far-off happier sea-
No heavings hint that winds have been
On seas less hideously serene.

But lo, a stir is in the air!
The wave- there is a movement there!
As if the towers had thrust aside,
In slightly sinking, the dull tide-
As if their tops had feebly given
A void within the filmy Heaven.
The waves have now a redder glow-
The hours are breathing faint and low-
And when, amid no earthly moans,
Down, down that town shall settle hence,
Hell, rising from a thousand thrones,
Shall do it reverence.
