Well I recently worked security at two concerts that were pretty exceptional in being what the are - which is to say really nothing I suppose, while I mean specifically everything - anyway. Regarding the experience of live music, how do you describe liking something that you don't necessarily like? Or perhaps a better thing is to say liking other people liking something?
It's great to watch fans get into the tunes and dance their dance.
The first one
Daniel Johnston played the
Casper the Friendly Ghost song, and it was pretty compelling. This was really an amazing show,
made more amazing by the story of the performer.
The second one.
David Allen Coe wore this insanely long blonde wig, and looked totally ridiculous. We were afraid there would be fights of course, because there were lots of shit-faced rednecks present, but they were really pretty tame and friendly (although I heard they were lousy tippers). They kept razzing me, saying 'you don't have a radio' ... 'whut are you a-gonna do if we rush the stage'. I was also afraid David Allen Coe was going to play one his
'x-rated' racist and misogynistic "satire(?)" tunes... because I think that would have made me uncomfortable, or at least more uncomfortable than I already was.
I myself will be dancing my
dance in november when the pup comes to town. I will be unable to work at this show, and would
probably throw my job away in a fit of dancing because I couldn't help it.
