Et in Arcadia Ego is as interesting as his username, which is very interesting, but a phrase about which so many thinkers have already written interesting things that there's not a lot of terrain left to explore for this post. Hmm. Okay. As I understand it, there are the traditionalists who think it means that Personified Death is making his presence known in Arcadia. And then there are the Tomb of God people, who think it means that, plus if you add a word and make an anagram about it, it proves something about Rennes-le-Chateau, but only if you ignore the Guercino painting that Barracuda posted and pretend that Poussin's was the first. Those are both excellent hypotheses. But what if...Poussin's two paintings on the theme are based on a classical text that has since been lost, but which, if discovered, would show it to be a statement is by Something ElsePersonified. I mean, anything might be in that tomb. And I see clues everywhere.

For example, Retro Dance is even in Arcadia.

And High School is even in Arcadia:

And anatomical art is even in Arcadia:

And of course frolicking with nymphs is even in Arcadia:

Those holy-blood, holy-grail followers are just not being imaginative enough, I feel.

eiAe balances the seemingly antithetical modes of-
epic mythology aesthetic versus take-no-prisoners zero-tolerance-for-bullshit
-better than just about anyone I've ever read online.

I guess drawing on skin with a needle perfectly synthesizes those things in a world where most people won't even do the crossword in ink or admit they're certain of anything.

A man of few words and one of the posters I'd most likely enjoy a pint or two with.
