In Glasgow, they are celebrating your birth
"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

I'd like to offer a glass of lemonade to each of Annie Aronburg's Scottish sources, who must have been running for many days.

compared2what, I'd like to live inside your head for one day. I think it would be like being in a very sunny, yet messy room, with a lovely garden view and rare treasures buried under the discarded clothes, papers and books.

Alice all too often speaks my mind though I don't think she'll be flattered to know that if she even believes it.

Searcher08. what you said .

And glad to hear you say it. You keep on rocking with your RI self, just as you have be doing. Because I don't want to have to start worrying that you are spending more time with unnecessarily complicated French theory than could possibly be good for anyone. Or, for that matter, any (other).

compared2what? was the absolutely best username to define the Overton Window for someone else recently.

It was the occasion compared2what? was meant to rise to.

Hugh, I imagine you in a leather-bound study, books and papers piled high around you and a glass of port at your elbow. Maybe an English Springer Spaniel is curled around your feet. I imagine you check on your elderly neigbor and bring him a plate of food. You scatter bread crumbs out your back door so you can watch the birds cavort. You carry an umbrella with you every where. You are big and tall and amiable. You wear half-glasses.

I know that sounds like an English Country House Novel cliche. I can't help it and I'm probably entirely wrong, but it is pleasant to imagine.

sunny, one of the smartest things I've done since learning how to type was to ask you to help moderate the board. You bring great wisdom, equanimity and humour to a place that could too easily lack all three.

Jeff, one of the smartest things I've done since learning to type was to start reading your blog. I've learned so much from you I'm practically a different person. You have the patience of Job and your writing sends me. You are warm and good and the sharpest guy on the web.

Good looking, too! (I've searched and searched for a pic of you with no luck, but I'm never going to be convinced otherwise)

Is this a positive-vibe thing only, or am I permitted to edit this later and express the deepest virulence towards tkl I can think of?

tkl and I used to frequent the same nightclubs back in the day, some of which were sub-cultural nexus points in an already very culture-saturated city(Ft Lauderdale). We hung in the l33t spots with teh l33t peoples.

A portion of him has to be cool by default due in part to this.
