What are you doing tonight?

Postby sunny » Fri Jul 04, 2008 9:56 pm

Me? Not a damn thing but surfing the web and drinking wine.

The family was over earlier for a BBQ, but they all left to catch the fireworks. Hubby and I would rather drink, so while he's catching the Twilight Zone marathon on Sci Fi (right now Peter Falk is doing an execrable Castro) I figured I'd hang out on the 'net and see what's shaking.

So, what's shaking?

Kids finally in bed and I'm probably about to fall asleep in my clothes. Typical Friday night!

Sunny, that sounds like an excellent idea!

Mind if I join you?

I'm having a glass of Elephant Island's Black Currant wine, strictly for health reasons of course.

Canada's pilgrims landed a few days ago so no fireworks around here but severe thunderstorms are threatened so perhaps there will be a sky show anyways.

Yesterday there was golf ball sized hail all over the valley and much of the cherry, apricot, peach, plum and nectarine crop has been totalled.

The temperature has dropped 20 degrees (Celsius!) in the last two days so I am going to take advantage of this window of cool to make butter out from the cream I skim off my ration of fresh jersey milk.

I find that in the time it takes me to watch a little youtube treasure I can shake up enough butter for the week.

annie, I'm drinking homemade strawberry wine. My friend Theresa got into making wine a couple of years ago and she's really getting good at it. When my scuppernongs ripen she's going to come over and help me make some with those. I can't wait.

I often make butter with store-bought cream. Easier than pie.

We've had thunderboomers every day this week.

No, I'm in Ohio right now. But I've had them before.

bad neighborhood though. fucking cops don't go there for donuts after dark.

I thought the bullet-proof glass was a nice touch.

It wasn't an exaggeration.

Nor was the bit about the hookers. Though that neighborhood isn't particularly bad as far as THAT is concerned.

they are brilliant donuts though. this is widely appreciated. this from me, though I'm not big on creme filling.

I almost never spend the fourth with anyone, but this year I was with five other mature adults down the road, sans fireworks. Nice enough evening, but when the hostess brought up the subject of global warming and espoused her theory that these changes have been going on forever, and will always continue to go on, regardless of human impact, I want you to know that for once I kept my mouth shut. Sometimes you just have to know when not to engage.

Now if you had asked about earlier in the week, I would say that I had a very interesting discussion on politics, and the Moorish influence, on the deck of the Spring Street Bar and Grill with my son, his girlfriend and other interesting bar patrons, and enjoyed myself immensely.

My fourth was spent safely nestled on the deck, high above the activity. A group of about ten teenagers (friends of my teen) had combined their arsenals of fireworks, and they lit the skies on this edge of our tiny community for a good hour or more. My wife and I went to bed before they finished. I had several tasty cocktails during the event, but I don't remember what they were (much less the brands). I do remember that at least one of them involved vodka poured from a plastic bottle--it all tastes the same to me, and that's a very good thing, indeed.

Surprisingly enough, the young ones cleaned up rather well afterwards. I was able to enjoy my coffee the next morning, and I had little to complain about, having been the happy recipient of lazy Saturday morning sex.

Tonight I am tired. We finished painting our kitchen about an hour ago, it is all cleaned now, my wife is in the bath, and I am wasting my time.

Thanks for asking, though.
