Whew, that Chantix is weird shit. My daughter used it for one week, and it changed her menstrual cycle, turned her into psycho-bitch, and I can't remember what else.

Yeah, a friend of mine used it. It didn't stop his smoking (he was smoking up to three packs a day, it brought him down but that's it) and he became suicidal and his personality just flipped. Normally a passive, kind person he became aggressive and aggitated. That stuff is just terrifying. I refused it and went cold turkey.

Yeah, those modern pharma offerings often seem like a worse cure than the ailment ...
Like this (pulled from market since) -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rimonabant

Rimonabant (also known as SR141716, Acomplia, Bethin, Monaslim, Remonabent, Riobant, Slimona, Rimoslim, and Zimulti[1], Riomont) is an anorectic anti-obesity drug. It is an inverse agonist for the cannabinoid receptor CB1. Its main avenue of effect is reduction in appetite.

In October, 2008, the European Medicines Agency recommended that doctors not prescribe the drug due to the risk of serious psychiatric problems and even suicide. The drug was subsequently suspended.

Those people really know how to screw up.

Still feeling good and no cravings - so now its not acute anymore.
I just need to avoid getting a regular job in the next few months and I think Ill be fine ;)

I'm smoking right now. It's great. Saw a film from the forties that said it was good for you, and i see no reason to revise that opinion - they've come up with all this bad stuff it does to you since then, but, y'know, those are just CONSPIRACY THEORIES.

Nah, but seriously, I have to stop. It's feckin' deadly, and nowhere near as slow as they make out. Good work all ye quitters, and long may you remain clean and whole.

Still quit, penguin. Let's see . . . I quit on July 21, so I'm nearing 4 months now. There's no chance that I'll ever smoke again, either; it became a personal matter. I hated the addiction, and I hated submitting to it. Never again.

I loved smoking, though.

I've spent this entire thread trying to figure out how I could use it to quit myself. Still haven't. Well done all.

That's because, I think, Barracuda, that when you quit you really have to do it yourself. There's so much information out there about quitting, but none of it applies if you don't have the need or desire to. And if you have the need/desire to quit, then none of it matters because you'll do it. That's how it was with me. It just happened. I just decided and that was that, then I purposefully stuck to it.

Yeah I'm with Maddy--it's up to you to quit. It's very hard.

My method right now is just not buying cigarettes. It's works pretty well. When I have a real bad craving someone will usually bum one to me. If not--I just deal with the craving. The hardest thing is not having any with my coffee in the a.m.
