Some political rap. Couldn't help myself.

There's a much longer project bubbling but I wanted to share this cut with the faithful:

http://worldaround.bandcamp.com/track/the-frame

It was a great opportunity to put myself in front of a new audience so I wanted to cover as many bases as possible. After a Dali opening sequence bragging about my Komodo Dragon collection, we get to work:

went from stupid cynical to “way too political” quick
it’s never fashionable giving a shit, but shit
if it’s not a revolution, I’ll take an occupation
but if it’s not an occupation then I’m better off just moving
exactly what the fuck is wrong with white people today?
I’ve watched a lotta closet racists go completely insane
please, say you’re not racist...bro, it’s so obvious
he’s a black George Bush and y’all are calling him a communist
look....I’m not saying I have faith in my leaders
I’m saying, fuck your Fox News motivational speakers
fuck every last democrat, all republicans
plus the dumb-as-shit citizens who vote these blooduckers in
and if you’re listening, that’s probably you
...so stay tuned and turn the volume up, too
like: Tea Party Nation.. here’s the situation...
your grandma was an activist... FOR segregation
against brown vs. the board of education
march to montgomery, she was there waiting
...but brainwashing is a dangerous game
so granny had a daughter and she raised her to hate
she lied about Jesus and she claimed it was Faith
and she filled her with guilt that remains to this day
but if you’re an 80’s baby, the hate’s undercover
it’s baked in the system, the guns and the butter
claiming that victims create what they suffer
made welfare queens out of poor black mothers
languages changes, but goals remain
that’s exactly why the CIA sold cocaine
now this is not a secret, it’s an open case
all those men are still alive and we know their names
...powdernose rappers wanna floss in the source
I just want an honest talk with Oliver North
like I just want a couple million dollars or more
fuck status, get power, that is all that it’s for
conspiracies are nothing, the big open secret
is how we all slit our own throats but won’t believe it
and every rebel wants to fight the machine
it’s easier than questioning the life that we lead, peace

Impressive. You seem to be coping admirably with the cover art looking through the back catalogue, but if you ever need any anything specific, I'd love to help.

Excellent stuff. I'm not a big fan of rap, so I am imagining it done in the style of Gilbert and Sullivan, and it works perfect.
Bit of tuba, a few bassoons, and you'll be good to go.

You have a great voice Wombat, I am genuinely impressed and I like it, ignore my sarkiness above, for I am a dick.

!!!! thanks all, I'd almost forgotten I posted this...also, thanks for excavating that lyrics video. I've been in the studio (sleeping on the floor) for close to 3 weeks now and there's been a lot of music made with Godforbid, who is a remarkable character in his own right and a major inspiration for yours truly.

He's a rapper but he's also got a serious set of pipes and a Zappa-worthy live band operation called That Handsome Devil:

^^One of my favorites...dark, funny, and strangely sympathetic. Great slice of Americana psychosis.

If you felt that was snark, you'll appreciate knowing I quite literally do that. The scansion and meter work of G&S is unparalleled and they're frankly better rappers than most rappers.

Quite a day to discover both yours and Mr. Tech's!

    Prologue.
You get up and howl about America and democracy
There is no America, there is no democracy
We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies
The world is a college of corporations
Inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business
The world is a business and I have chosen you to preach this evangel

    [Intro]
For all my free market, health care-robbing
    Stock-stealing, retirement fund fuckin’-with niggas
Fuck your little credit card-scamming, jewelry-stealing
    Crack-selling, liquor store-robbing, motherfuckers
Shout out to the homies Carnegie, OG Willy Randolph Hearst
Farouk, Rockefeller – the real Rockefeller
My main bitch Leona, pour out a little Louis the 13th
Scott Rothstein, Jack Abramoff, hold ya head
    My Rothschild niggas…
    LET’S GET THIS MONEY!

    [1st Verse]
I spend my day pairin’ America overseas
Pension for the workers, nigga please
    Embezzlement etiquette, private settlement
    I’m better with confederate rhetoric
    From my mansion in Connecticut
Foreclose, evict hoes out of tenement
I twist words like a speech impediment
I hope you got good credit, bitch
If not, better get a new job with benefits
While I play golf with niggas I get cheddar with
New money buys brand new carats
My old money bought your rich grandparents
You got grills in your mouth, I ain’t mad at ya
I own every goldmine in South Africa
Thanks, baby, you made me a billion
Plus I own a building for each one of my children’s children, that’s the shit
Snort coke in the whip, Miss USA suckin’ my dick
Yeah, what! Fuck the law cause real jail is for suckas
I go to country club prison, you dumb motherfuckers
(I am the 1 percent, fuckin’ bitch!)

    [Hook]
You know my CEO, corporate steeze, please
Overthrow governments overseas in a breeze
Politicians in my pockets for a few hundred Gs
So if I’m ever in court, my assets will never freeze

    [2nd Verse]
I got a job and a house and a bank account
When I’m out, I doubt that’s something you can say
And if not then I’ll fake death like Kenneth Lay
Make money everyday the world burns on its axis
While y’all struggling to pay taxes
I’m getting my money the fastest
Memos and faxes, shredded up documents
Slush funds through the corrupt continents
But they don’t want me indicted
Cause they don’t want my dirty laundry aired when I’d fight it
    Don’t get my lawyers excited
Cause what good is a law if you can’t rewrite it
    I got CIA, traitors
Dictators, so fuck y’all whistleblowers and haters (SHEEEEEEIIIIITTT!)
All of this money from Al-Qaeda
In the bank 9/11 widows go to later
Capitalism’s who I pray to, fuck the state of the world
Money talks so what the fuck I need to say to ya girl
(I don’t pay them to fuck! I pay them to leave!)

    [Hook 2]
You know my CEO, corporate steeze, greed
I treat countries like the IMF, down on your knees
Real gangstas run the world, fuck what you believe
I’ll cut down a forest while you niggas burnin’ some trees
I’ll get your family murdered for a couple of Gs
Cause your working class money ain’t fucking with me
You think rappers are rich cause of songs you heard
My labels make the money and have them rap the fucking words

    [3rd Verse]
Yacht in the ocean, coastin’ with the sails out
Hey America, thanks for the bailouts
I made off with the Banco Ambrosiano
Got away scot-free like Il Vaticano
Activists act a bitch, get mad at me
    Cause of my tax-free charity
80 percent to the staff and company
And 20 percent to the homeless and hungry
The country gotta pay the Fed Reserve
Kick back to the banksters, haven’t you learned
You protest cops or patrols on the street
But I bought city hall so I own the police
E-mail, Facebook, and the shit you tweet
All the phone companies, so I heard you speakin’
    My suggestion is your correction
No elections, sex with no affection
No invention of benefit to world of man
Will exist till I got the money in my hand
World Bank interest rate damn rape on the spot
But I’m gangsta, you gon’ take my money like it or not
(I got your country in my pocket, motherfucker!)

    [Hook 3]
You know my CEO, masonic steeze, cheese
Only little people pay all these taxes and fees
Since you were born we control what you watch and you read
And pretty soon we’re gonna own the fuckin’ air that you breathe
I take what I want, fucker, I don’t have to say please
I convince you that it’s good for you, take it and leave
You think president’s are the face of a nation
I put ‘em all where they are, end of the conversation

Yes! Sing, and Wombaticus’s The Frame, and Rich Man’s World, top the list of my PROTESTATIONS as if I had been shouting them on Wall Street.

Intrinsic attractions for me are rhythms and syncopations, and that’s why I’ve begun adoring listening to rappers as well as, of late, Armenian and Arabic folk songs. For my western-trained ear, syncopations are really fascinating, and perhaps so infrequently used by pop artists from North America. I must say it that way because I’ve still not listened to all pop music ever created  . But with RI, I’m getting somewhere!
Art will be the last bastion when all else fades away.

Indeed they are. Or rather, their singers were and are - Gilbert just wrote the rhymes, bro, while Sullivan laid down the groove. Fuck, I'm ninety years old.

I shouldn't've said I don;t like rap, because the more I hear of it the more I like, but I've never made a point of listening to it, and that's a failing. I do like Pharoahe Monch for some reason, even though he tries very very hard to be a misogynist. "Breasteses" is still a great word no matter who uses it, when, or for what reason.

Of course, we here in Scotland invented rap, just as we invented everything else that is good or useful in the world:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/musi ... essor.html

Unfortunately we seem to have invented the boring yomomma/yobitch/East Coast/West Coast/Eazy E vs. errybody grudge match shit. Probably invented MTV Cribs as well, FFS.

Wish we'd invented The Coup. That would be something to be proud of.
