....a few lines round the kneck but that pacific sun can't be doing her red-haired complexion much good....

mind you not that there aren't some horrendous before / after pictures out there esp. Amy, Whitney etc. & some of those police mug-shots of meths users that are so gruesome its seems frankly necrophilic to post them :

She looks like a tired very attractive 25-year-old girl who's wearing a fair bit of make-up. Her make-up is not smudged. She is not puking or drooling or having a fit or biting the head off a chicken. In fact, she's not doing anything even remotely ugly, unless you think being older than 12 or 15 is ugly in and of itself.

Not to put too fine a point on it: she looks great. Tired, but great. And so what?

So I'm like, WTF?

I came here to say the same thing. Thanks. She looks great. I wish I looked like that. I am baffled by this thread more than by Hollywood or drug addiction. Unless it's part of some kind of SEO strategy. Nordique, are you working for her machine in some freelance capacity?

Ha! I wish someone would hire me to sit on my ass at my home computer right now!

Uh ... no. I seriously think she looks like she's barely alive there. That she's smacked out of her mind on something.

Also she's gotten plastic surgery on her nose, which is very sad. She already covers up her beautiful freckles which is part of what made her famous as a kid.

I know.

But hell, maybe it's not a bad idea. God knows I could use a new way to make a living!

By the way, Nordic (and everyone), my apologies for that "Who the eff is LL?" post, and the one that followed it. They must have come across as stupidly belligerent, because they were stupidly belligerent.

Whenever I overuse the f-word like that, it's a fairly sure sign that I am PWD* . Sorry.

Part of the reason that picture looks the way it does is that LiLo is an enormous MM fan (as I'm sure you know). Marilyn was famous for presenting exactly that facial expression -- eyes half-closed, lips parted, and mouth slightly open (teeth not together, I mean). LL's eye makeup is actually very similar to MM's in that Bert Stern shoot...

...that she (LL) has already paid tribute to back whenever that New York Magazine cover came out:

So maybe she was just trying to give some Marilyn face to the paparazzi, and wasn't high at all! On that particular evening.

That said, her nose really does look like she's getting very close to having had it done one time too many for nose retention to be a realistic possibility. She appears practically to be bursting with Restylane, too. Or maybe something else of that nature. But it looks to me like there's filler all over her face, a la Courtney Love. And that's always pretty horrifying. I mean, if someone really, really wants porn-star blowjob lips, fine. It's a look. But I have no idea why anyone ever uses it for anything else.

It's also very, very sad to see a 25-year-old feeling she has to go that route. But you see it all the time. IIRC, Britney was already using Botox when her first record came out. For example.

Sigh. Poor Lindsay. At least she does have talent, though. Because that does sometimes help pull people through. So here's hoping.

Have to agree with those who are just not seeing it. She looks fine to me. Certainly seen much worse, in many a bathroom mirror.

It's funny that it's mostly the Brits here who can't see any problem with LiLo's appearance. There was a comedian from the US on the telly recently, who said: "I had to come to the UK, to progress my career. You guys still put ugly people on TV."

It's true as well - sometimes a night of British television can look like a hard-fought competition in physical grotesquerie between a plethora of equally well-equipped opponents. No other country in the world would've allowed Andrew Marr and John Sergeant to become their principle news reporters. Andrew Neil's wig would've been outlawed long ago in a civilized society.

And no other country in the developed world would allow Eastenders to be shown at all - nevermind calling it a soap opera and pretending that the people in it are somehow "glamorous."

In the US even Ugly Betty has to be gorgeous. Even a high-school geek like Xander from Buffy can be (has to be) played by a stunningly broad-shouldered charmer with exemplary pecs and a mile-wide Colgate smile, and nobody thinks that's weird. Or not many people.

LiLo just looks like a woman in her mid-twenties who has led a reasonably normal life. But she's not allowed to look like a woman in her mid-twenties who has lived a reasonably normal life. Therefore, she should die soon.

Nordic's right about her nose, though. Too much toot-toot. But hell, the Chancellor's doing rails of that shit before PMQs, so who's going to cast the first stone?

Ha. My stepdaughter is a huge fan of "The Office" and the other day she decided to check out the British (original) version.

She was astounded at how ugly the people were. I had to agree. Hard to watch, actually.

The UK version was sickeningly realistic, unforgiving, and stopped after it had said all there was to say on the subject, whereas the US version ... very easy to watch. You can leave it on all day, no harm will ever come of it.

I'm sorry, but compared to what she used to look like and taking into consideration how young she is I think she looks terrible. She's been busted for all sorts of things, including DUI and theft. Several times she's made a spectacle of herself crashing H'wood parties only to be humiliated when she's barred or thrown out. The poor girl clearly has a slew of problems and has been on a downward spiral for at least the last 5 years.

Yeah, but if you didn't know all that about her, and you were shown a picture like the one in the OP - imagine, for instance, that somebody told you it was a picture of the 25 year old lead singer of the latest up-and-coming New York pseudo-New Wave/punk band - I'm certain you wouldn't see it as a person who is literally close to death.

She just doesn't look all that ill or wasted to me. She might well be, of course, but she doesn't really look it in that picture. Mind you, I thought Whitney looked okay for her age as well (though I remember Evan Dando saying back in the nineties that she was already a "terrible lush" and always had been).

I stopped watching it after they threw Tim's shoes over the roof of the pub.

It was hardly the most brutal or disturbing thing I'd ever seen on screen, but it was too close to the bone, the cruelty and humiliation was so minor and banal and everyday (and largely unintended by the "perpetrators") that it hit home. There was a lot of that in The Office. I was much more comfortable with Extras - until I realised there were parts of it that were literally asking me to laugh at the disabled and disappointed and vulnerable and gay. Then I kind of stopped watching that too. It's tough being a bleeding heart liberal, I tell ye.

Now I just laugh at the hideously ugly folk on Eastenders and Newsnight. It is the nobler path.

I don't think LL is close to death. At least I hope not. She seems to be doing better lately. At least she looks like she's doing much better:

I can tell she's healthy from the from the fullness of her lips, though it's quite hard to see them past the jacket she's wearing.

Looks okay though!
