@Jack- excellent article; hits the nail on the head IMO. I hear what you're saying about being engaged in the machine and using it for what it's worth. My day job for the past several years has been at a mainstream environmental organization. I view it as a way to earn a paycheck without doing something overtly evil, and also as a tool for minor social progress. The organization has actually helped pass some pretty good legislation, with teeth, but it also endorses disgusting war-mongers like Feinstein and Obama. It's a bandaid while I rack my brain for a way to enact the actual changes needed. The alternative to being somewhat involved in the system is handing complete control over to the far right. What makes me bash my head against the wall is when liberal friends act like the progressive movement is the only game in town, the only alternative. There's also the argument that we should just let things go to hell so that people will be forced to see just how horrible the system is, but I think the managers are too smart to let that happen. So... in the end, maybe I'm just helping to prop up the illusion with my day job. I dunno. Like I said... at the end of the day a man's gotta eat while he's planning the revolution.

Narconews is a pretty great site that does a lot of original reporting and is also transparent about reporting from a leftist perspective.

What I really want to know is, where is the "gate" at? That terminology kind of implies that there is one orifice with several sphincters through which one must pass in order to get to the truth. I don't think that's a really accurate model of reality so maybe not the best metaphor.

Really I don't think you will find any media outlets that are totally raw. It's kind of the definition of media. So probably the best solution is to use adblock.

Raw Story's got my goat right now because they've been running anti-gun propaganda every day for the last several weeks, and before that they were busy demonizing Occupy protesters as a bunch of aimless vandals.

Yeah, and though it's from the "high-tier propaganda to confuse" Infowars suite of sites, it's still true:

And yeah, sadly, Raw Story has been terrible on true 911 skepticism, or at least has been entirely knee-jerk against "911-Truth."

Hmmm...actually, your picture of multiple orifices works really well as a metaphor.
Just think of porn, ahem. And the gates, plural, as exits that also can function as entrances.
Meaning, there are even bouncers at the backdoors to the Nightclub of Truth.

The question was raised as to what news site is trustworthy overall, and after some consideration I've found that the only one I trust most of the time is Global Research. They sometimes run articles which I consider alarmist/hyperbolic, and they sometimes feature articles by contributors who I have qualms about. Overall they seem pretty solid on all the areas I care about though. If anyone has any major dirt on them, though, I'd certainly be interested in hearing it.
