No such thread would be complete without a mention of these guys, would it?:

Some more not so obligatory entries:

Do these qualify as "guitar solos"? Probably not.

The solo's at 2:02, but the whole song is dripping with Randy Rhoads awesomeness.

Simple, angular, melodic, and powerful.

it's not exactly zepplin, but @ 1:48 particularly how it starts

I could go with several from this next band, but this'll do for one...
the 'solo' is very short, but he get's to do it 4 or 5 times
enhanced volume settings recommended...

you know, I'm not really good at remembering solos

but this is a REAL one: ( @ 1:55 )

or IS it?

Does the rest of the band have to stop playing for it to be an official solo? (as defined by the interplanetary guitar solo authority, aka the IGSA)

The albino blues spider from Beaumont Texas is pretty clearly pleased with how the whole thing went. I like his little warm-up riff at 0:25 to set the mood, but the whole thing is sheer enjoyment and mastery of the idiom.

My favorite Beatles guitar solo was played by their bass player.

While I'm at it, I'll go slightly off topic and post my favorite Beatles drum fill, also played by their bass player.

Beginning @ 2:51:

Their bass player had his moments...
