Fourth Base, Laodicean, and a Fun New Policy

Postby Wombaticus Rex » Sun Mar 16, 2014 9:35 pm

4B and Lao had a pointless and petty exchange and I deleted the whole thing.

That's going to be my policy for "moderation" going forward: just excising the tumor and dumping it into the incinerator tube, or if your prefer, The Memory Hole.

:fawked:

Cheers.

I welcome feedback on that and am open to changing my mind, at least theoretically.

Well...if you put it up for a vote, I'd vote against it.

Sometimes you disappoint me, Wombat.

That's fine with me. As long as, if there's ever a random reason to recall what was written, a mod can retrieve it. But that's unlikely. It was mutually useless bickering.

Why do you think I should not have deleted it?

Or is this just some nebulous general principle "Free Speech" stuff?

Awesome, except typo (Laodicean). Thank you for your continuing moderation, WRex. I'm all for more deletion. While I'm here, I'd like to point out that there's no need to quote entire posts preceding replies. Noticing this often here, it seems very wasteful.

I'm for it. If I didn't trust your judgement I wouldn't be though.

As a member that has been involved in useless, petty bickering on occasion I'd appreciate it if you could go back and retroactively erase the evidence.

Eternal recurrence. No Exit. Waiting for Godot.

Kind of fun though.

I disagree with this sort of board editing. Like it or not, RI is first and foremost a social space. I mean, it's your prerogative, but I feel it removes some of the flavor and spirit from threads, and unnecessarily conceals relationships between posters, which is about 25% of why I enjoy reading the forum in the first place. The subject matter calls out for emotional responses, the blood of discussion. Why dry it out?

Sorry, too busy to do the entirely gratuitous but required mock-murder response. Just imagine giant blinking Fuck-You smileys, okay? Love, Die, JR.

Well, doctor-to-be, I can only presume posts like yours above will be among the first to go with the institution of this new policy, the course of which I still disagree with, and not on free-speech grounds. I wish to preserve those kinds of posts because it tells me far more about my fellows than a simple cut and paste info doc ever will. In my opinion, "who" I receive information from is an important part of the information I receive.

Thanks for making time for me, though.

Man! It was awesome! You shouda been there!

But not having been, my rubber neck craned in retrospective wonder, should I feel blessed?

Personally Rex, I think you're taking this "I'm a Republican" thing a bit too far.

Lock, if you must, but one's more irrational words help others to value their future outpourings and interpersonal interactions.

Hey, it won't take much convincing to get me to Do Less Work. I will happily abandon this policy going forward.
