A couple of weeks ago my buddy Larry died.
He was someone who I would consider a very good friend, despite the fact that I'd only known him for the last 6 months or so.
Like every last one of us he had his faults, but he was a good guy.
We used to meet at a regular poker game.
The last time Larry played with us ( on the same day he later died) he won the most amazing hand.
Larry won the pot with a straight flush. His opponent had 4 of a kind.
If youre reading this, and know nothing about poker or the rules, heres the mathematics...
A quick look at the odds of 4 of a kind losing to straight flush in any given hand at a poker table is apporximately 0.00000014%.
Which means that probably each of us reading this are several hundred times more likely to get hit by lightening
Larry died, (according to best estimates) either the same eveining or shortly after
It should be mentioned that Larry and many of his friends knew he was seriously ill.
But all the same, you can add a couple more decimal points to the odds of him dying on the same day he produces a miraculous victory at the poker table.
And I was privy to that miracle.
So I just thought I'd pass it on to anyone listening.
