Raves in Denver

Postby 82_28 » Tue May 17, 2016 3:40 pm

Chump, did you go to any of these?

Denver Had a Thriving Rave Culture in the '90s, and It Was All Its Own

I used to go to WaxTrax basically daily and then all the rave people started showing up with their fancy cards/fliers passing them out. Glossy and very artistic. So I got snared, so to speak. I had to know what it was like. I did no drugs, but did slam a few beers and thought it was fucking lame once in the rave -- hot, humid and dumb. In fact I've never seen something so lame. But it was hella big back then and came very unexpectedly.

No. Never.

I was invited, but never did X.

The friend who invited me worked as a wandering diswasher for the decades I knew him, since back in the daze when we'd step out the door to smoke a doob.

He became a regular celebrity at those frenetic events - where he wore a sequined suit with a matching top hat...

Now, the last time I saw him was decades ago...

I like to think he's still dancing though.

Since this thread is about Denver so to speak. Chump and Nordic might enjoy this article about Denver being the only city and the state of Colorado to get the approval to host the Olympics and say hell no in the world ever. I would have been just born had the Winter Olympics been held there in 1976. Anyway, just read it and thought of you cats.

Pretty long read with some cool videos from the era.

Again for Chump and Nordic. Just read this in the Westword. It's about the history of Lakeside Amusement Park. Pretty interesting.
