It`s not a lot of effort at all, Jack. It`s ten minutes` work a day, maximum. What is the total official US spook budget (excluding the gigantic black budget)? Last time I checked, it was exactly 863 gazillion dollars yearly. That`s enough money to pay many thousands of employees a sizable salary to perform simple mechanical repetitive tasks on the internet for around ten minutes a day.
The effort ain't bot action, someone's curating it.
No contradiction. Could very easily be bot action, at least 90% of it. Just program that bot to suck up and spit out selected screeds each day from approved pseudleft sources such as, say, Proyect, Denham, "Oakland Socialist", "kerspledebed", the Antideutschen, The Guardian and the brainWashington Post. Just program in the keywords and let the bot loose. Occasionally the curator(s)
would need to step in and speak in (or rather, simulate) the voice of an actual, sincere, honest human being. This voice would then tend to sound weirdly empty and vacuous -- wooden, mechanical, inarticulate, evasive, dishonest and deeply unpersuasive --, for the simple reason that it would be the voice of a spook curator. It would tend to speak only very briefly. It would repeat hackneyed phrases. It would sound resentful at being forced to speak in a human voice at all. It would complain of being
bullied.
These are all testable hypotheses, and anyone can test them very easily..
Also, shows little adaptive behavior about the unpopularity.
Indeed. It doesn`t need to care about its unpopularity. On the contrary: the more unpopular the better. If it`s managed to establish itself on a Discussion Board as The Voice of The Left™, then its growing unpopularity constitutes a double whammy for the spook operators. The (pseudleft, cryptofascist. warmongering) spook propaganda gets catapulted incessantly, AND, simultaneously, The Voice of The Left™ gets discredited as boring, stupid, cowardly, dishonest, evasive, unattractive, and deeply annoying. Win-win.
Seems to me like the obvious major copypasta campaigns here are prodigious products of personal commitment to Being Right on the Internet.
And spooks arent committed to that? Of course they are. Its their job, after all. Again: no contradiction, on the contrary.
Which is still to say: I don't and can't know, it wouldn't be less annoying either way,
It`s deeply annoying either way, I agree. Cui bono?
it wouldn't be less ineffective anyway.
It`s very far from ineffective, and you`ve just admitted that it isn`t. To annoy people is to have a very significant effect on them. If the spook infiltrator carries on being annoying enough for long enough, he can succeed in driving people away from the board and make that board completely unusable. Board dead, Job done. Then the spook operator can collect his
hard-earned bonus and move on to the next task.

On a completely unrelated note: I glanced in here, out of nostalgia, one evening about five weeks ago, and there were only two poster-names visible on the first seventeen topics on the front page of this former Discussion Board. Yes, I counted. (First post by/last post by). I don`t need to tell you what those two names were. Only one of them is, in my opinion, the label of a spook. Anway, there he was, completely unworried by any question of popularity or effectiveness, churning away incessantly in the dark, in the icy vacuum, like one of those.incomprehensible alien machines in one of those tales by Stanislaw Lem. Still posting away, still completely unconcerned with persuading anyone of anything at all. It was eerie, I tell you.
a nihgt of terer. fare done gime a turn it did.I had entered a haunted house. The alleged janitor -- "The Last Moderator", as he called himself elsewhere -- had long since departed, silently. That`s how Discussion Boards get killed, or at least zombified.
