It means they're registered users that prefer not to have thier screen name pop up in a who's online index.

It's a privacy thing, that's all.

Thanks, Arcadia.

The thing is, it cannot be a privacy thing.
When I want to read the board privately I do so without logging in. Then I show up as a guest, which is as private as can be.

Not so a "Hidden Member".

When I'm reading privately, and decide I want to pass comment, I log in. Takes ten seconds.

If it's not a privacy thing, maybe it's a secrecy thing. That's not so far fetched - look at the number of us who believe this site is a target.

I believe in transparency.
It's the best protection.

Or am I missing something?
