See my war on drugs post for the clearest example of Hugh's threadjacking. Seems like I could post about my morning bowel movement and he'd turn it into a psyops discussion.

It really is tiresome, and I'm tired of my own responses to him. I honestly have no problem with his spouting his nonsense, but the hijacking of completely unrelated threads... ugh. Someone needs to tell him to knock it off.

I think he's cruising for a week's suspension.

I'd like to hear what sunny and chiggerbit think, since you and I are often butting heads with Hugh.

Look, while Hugh seems like an irritant, I just don't see that he meets the standards of a sanction.

Ditto.

I recommend ignoring him. Just skip over him and pretend his comments do not exist, except in the unlikely event he says something that interests you.

Easier said than done, especially when he intentionally baits and disrupts threads and flips the bird at Jeff's gentle advice... but okay.

I'll probably be more or less absent soon, anyway. Combination of a new baby on the way (any day now) and weariness with the combative comments being thrown my way in the forums. I'll try to check in once in a while, though.

Hugh's obsession with smacking down "woo woo" means he threadjacks virtually all the posts of Attack Ships on Fire, who finds it so dispiriting he's increasingly inclined to not post at all.

I'm sure I've been warning Hugh for more than a year now about how his conduct on the board can be disruptive, and I haven't seen an improvement. I don't think ignoring him is the answer, because then he gets the run of the board and someone is always going to respond to his especially absurd posts. (Though if we had an "ignore" function, that would take care of a lot of it.)

Congrats professorpan!

Jeff, this is ultimately your decision. I know it is particularly concerning when he's driving off members like pan and ASoF. How severely have you warned him? Does he know he could be suspended if he continues to threadjack? Do you think it would help or would have more of an impact if I or chiggerbit warned him, seeing as how you and pan have had quite a few conflicts with him?

That might have more of an impact. He may be resistant to hearing from pan and myself because we're closer to the fray. You'd certainly seem more impartial where Hugh is concerned.

Things seem quiet at the moment, but perhaps the next time you see a Hugh eruption re threadjacking, if you could either post an admonishment or pm him privately, that may be a big help. Thanks.

I'll keep an eye out for an opportunity, too.
