Fourth Base has gone way over the line with physical threats and accusations.

I think his post deserves some serious sanctions and warnings. SERIOUS.

Hugh pm'd me too. Maybe he caught me at the wrong moment, because I wasn't exactly sympathetic in my reply:

Threats of violence are never acceptable. While 4B's language is very strong I'm not persuaded that it qualifies as a threat. Though I'm nearly persuaded you're a provocateur and disruptor.

Hugh excels at pushing buttons and playing victim when pushed back. (He wrote back comparing himself to "those Negro provocateurs in Alabama.") 4B should be asked to step back from the violent language. Still, I'm afraid I don't have sympathy for Hugh, but for everyone who's lost patience with him.

Nevertheless the reason why I need moderators like you is to moderate my own judgment, and I admit I may not see things clearly anymore where Hugh is involved.

Frankly Jeff, the reason I am still able to have patience with Hugh is I rarely read anything he writes. I have persistently advised an imaginary 'ignore' button where he's concerned, but I understand it's not possible for some.

I was careful not to make a direct threat, of course. Regardless, any of the indirectly threatening language would only be applicable if he were either a lulz-troll or a spook, and if either of those two scenarios is the case then I actually stand by the indirectly threatening language. I will make no apologies for wanting to inflict physical harm on trolls and spooks. If he's merely a deranged good soul, which I still think is the most likely scenario, then I feel sorry for him and wish him a full recovery from whatever mental disorder plagues him and his otherwise commendable instincts.

And I posted on the thread:

FourthBase's language was stronger than it needed to be but it didn't, in my estimation, constitute a threat. Though I'm not happy to see statements suggesting even hypothetical violence here, so I'll ask 4B and all members to refrain from making them.

Hugh, I think I'll keep my comments to you private.
