chiggerbit, I don't know why I've never seen this thread! I'm sorry I haven't read the whole thing, but in answer to your question about organic repellants, my Paw Paw swore by ladybugs! You can buy them now in most garden centers.

Oh, you have pawpaws???? I have some trees growing wild, but they never seem to set fruit. Maybe the coons get them before I notice. ( I tend not to go into the woods much during chigger season.) Or maybe I need to do some hand pollinating. I sure wish I could get some fruit from them. I don't even know what they taste like yet, and I've been here for 11 years. And the squirrels get the hickory nuts, walnuts, and hazel nuts, AND my sweetcorn. I wonder what coon tastes like? I have a friend who used to bake one each year for a previous husband. I'll have to ask her. Hehe, I do know what squirrel tastes like! Yum.
