Trump canceled Pelosi’s trip to see the troops — but he’s still letting his staff go to Davos

Though Donald Trump is barring House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from traveling overseas amid his government shutdown, he is still allowing several of his top Cabinet members to fly to the ritzy Davos conference in Switzerland.
Trump’s restriction of Pelosi’s planned trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan came a day after the newly-reinstated House Speaker suggested the president skip his planned State of the Union address on January 29 to save money on security.

After the White House released a statement announcing the restriction — likely through the barring of Pelosi’s use of military planes — journalists on Twitter began speculating whether Trump would take the same action for his Cabinet members.
“Will [Trump] allow government/military plane travel for his cabinet to go to Davos next week?” Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey mused.
Dawsey’s colleague Glenn Kessler, a fact checker at the Post, noted that he was “curious to see if half the cabinet and Javanka now sticks with the plan to go to Davos,” referencing the planned travel to the conference of the Cabinet members and the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Vox’s Dara Lind noted that on January 15, the White House released an updated list of Cabinet officials who will be attending the forum, including Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and two other senior officials.
NBC News’ David Gura noted that the White House confirmed that Mnuchin is still leading the delegation after speculation arose.
