Thanks Laodicean, I don't have t.v., but look forward to this when it comes out on dvd (already saved on Netflix).

I think Spike Lee's four-part documentary 'When The Levees Broke' is worth seeing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pD1aVJaRsM

Another good series (though not as good as The Wire, of course) about behind the scenes of city, state politics & crime is 'The Brotherhood' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMr5fimTCRg

I thought the last two episodes of Brotherhood - the one with the Confederate soldier, and the one with the House applauding the election of Tommy - were the bomb.

^^
I found the episode with Declan's Confederate soldier neighbor particularly wrenching--more so than the professional thugs graphically killing each other (except one particular young drug runner) and corrupt politicians betraying one another. IMHO, the show really 'gets' the characters in those Irish/Catholic neighborhoods, along with how family, crime, & politics intersect.

Declan's the character I find most 'deserving' of empathy....
