Thankies for the Paul Collins, C2W?. Partied hard with those guys several times back in the day. Good times, great band, fond memories!

so far away you can't even see what's right in front of you

"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

OMG. How could I have missed this for my repertoire?
I think my grandma might have played it in my presence
when I was little, and I hope I walked outta the room.

Thanks, barracuda, for a good chortle and  !

hey C2W why didn't you just ask for the name of "that song that sounded like a poor man's Elvis Costello?" ...would've known it immediately.

Well, now that you put it that way....Hmm. Oh, wait! I know.

I'd have hated to be an imposition on you. See, in this wacky village where I grew up, they had this saying: "Questions are a burden to others. Answers, --" Oh, fuck. Gotta run.

But longstoryshortquestionsareaburdentoothersanswersaprisontooneself.

Also, I don't know, semper occultus. I guess the question only ever came up when I was idling with my thoughts in a world of my own. And seriously, who knows where the answers in there come from? Picked up on streetcorners, in all likelihood. I tried not to dwell on it. Plus, I'm an idiot. There's always that, of course. Pure gold, you can take it to the bank.

Sometimes. Now that you put it that way. Again. If you hadn't given examples, I probably would have said: Sort of like "Why is Russia like that, anyway?" Which I now realize is not so much a more representative example as it is a more memorable one.

But it's just not natural to accept that one is as forgettable as one is, I suspect. I'll have to ask myself some searching questions about that one.
