as is the older ragga stuff; never got into the tech itch side of things though. tom cruise is pretty hilarious on all fronts...in my own experience I've got to say happy + well adjusted folks seldom have strong opinions on things, but can be strong willed, whereas the reverse tends to hold of those who fail to adjust.

Enough

Postby JinLV » Mon Jul 18, 2005 3:10 pm

I think you are all morons. Psychiatry is a science like any other . How about one of you mensa material idiots figure out a way for someone to stop hearing voices , seeing the devil , thinking they have no internal organs , and believing that they are God . Huuhh , no answers .. I didn't think so . Well let me update you folks to the fact that humans , on average , only use 10% of their brains ( some of you are obviously operating on far less) , that leaves 90 percent to go cookoo on you and screw with the other 10 percent. As for "paying for psychiatric services" , well let me pose this question , If your ticker broke , arm fell off , skull cracked open , or your pecker went limp on you for no apparent reason would you PAY one of those BIG , BAD doctors to fix you. I'd venture to say I just heard a resounding yes ( especially about that whole pecker going limp topic). So get off your freaking high horse , pop a black molly and thank GOD it ain't you.

P.S. Tom Cruise , could you please send me a bottle of those wonderful vitamins you mentioned to Matt Lauer . I guess I too must have a Vitamin and Mineral imbalance because I was crazy enough to pay 9.50 to watch War of the Worlds when I could have payed 4.95 for Dianetics and read just as good a sciencefiction story.

Psychiatry/Psychiatrists

Postby Seventhson » Mon Jul 18, 2005 4:21 pm

Psychiatrists often do not have a clue what they are doing.

They are overpaid shills for the AMA and the status quo and the pharmaceutical induistry. Like in any profession there are breakthrough exceptions.

But mostly the medical establishment and the corporate pharmaceutical industry are other heads on the hydra which includes NBC (owned by General Electric) ALL of whom, are heavily invested in keeping the sheeple drugged, sick and deluded.

Psychiatrists really do operate totally in the dark analyzinf our minds kind of like Plato's cave shadows.

I was not surpirsed to see a corporate fascist shill like Lauer go after Cruise.

Scietnology has worked wonders for Cruise, for many people (I know some) BUT it is also a cult-like sytem which has aberrant tendencies.

Cruise was right. But his scientology and hisa communication skills are tenuopus at best

and some poeple would kill themselves without prozac, Some people, however, get ON prozac and kill themselves.

To proase NBC for attacking Cruise (and wasn't cruise attacked here recently because he is allegedly gay???

Who wants to demena and degrade and destroy Cruise???

The pharmaceutical industry.

WHO is the pharmaceutical industry??? Bush, Rumsfeld, Halliburton Carlyle, all of the above.

Cruise pissed them off so they are nopw spreading the meme that he's loony gay antipsychiatry guy weirdo...

This is just pitiful...

Kill your TV

Postby AnnaLiviaPlurabelle » Mon Jul 18, 2005 10:44 pm

Can’t help but think of the line from the movie “Defending Your Life”, where the just-dead guy is surprised to learn that humans use only 3 to 5 percent of their brains, and his “counselor” says something like “Trust me, if you’re using more than 5% of your brain, you don’t want to be on Earth”. (I swear I laughed for the next 5 minutes of the movie.)

As for Scientology, maybe I’ve missed something, but I never bothered to check any further once I quickly saw the enormous profit being made off it. I’ll risk being closed minded on this one, but that told me all I needed to know.

He he ...thanks for the laugh...

I found your reply quite humorous....

As someone who's worked in a psych office (administrative stuff) The only thing I found more startleing than the constant parade of otherwise normal children coming to fetch their happy pill scripts. Was the number of drug dealers/pushers serving us free buffets and attempting to send the Doc on all expense paid vacations.

Thank god I only worked there 2 weeks as a fill in. I still can't remember if the pushers outnumbered the patients.. but I do remember it being January and the patient couch was never cold....

How we ever made it this far into the modern era without the help of the prozac trees is beyond me...

Re: Enough

Postby professorpan » Tue Jul 19, 2005 11:06 am

It's easy to make broad-brush statements like "psychiatry is worthless" and "psychiatric drugs are shit." What's more difficult, and takes more time and brain power, is to look at the data subjectively. As with most topics, there's more nuance to it than "it's all good" or "it's all bad."

To all the psychiatry/drug bashers, you've obviously talking out your asses and have never seen someone in full-blown psychosis or an extreme case of schizophrenia. Psychiatric drugs can, and do, save the lives and rescue very messed up people. If you deny that, you really need to take a tour of a psych ward and talk to practicing psychiatrists. Or your arguments are baseless.

Are all psychiatric drugs good for all people? Of course not. Are kids overmedicated with Ritalin and other amphetamines? Certainly.

Try to make more intelligent arguments than "psychiatric drugs are an evil plot of the Illuminati." Life is full of gray areas, and nuanced, and most statements that sound too simplistic usually are.

The "humans only use 10% of their brains" meme really needs to go away.

www.snopes.com/science/st...percnt.htm

on psychiatry, weed and drum & bass

Postby hmm » Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:49 pm

I found that weed and drum & bass can be just as valid a cure for "manic depression with paranoid tendancies" as any psychiatry has to offer.
If i had to name one band that was the essence of how i feel it would be the music of portishead

There's psychiatrists, and then there's psychiatrists

Postby antiaristo » Tue Jul 19, 2005 6:08 pm

I can only relate my own experiences.
A very dear friend gave me a book while I was in Ireland. Colin was a great guy.
He said to me "I don't really understand this. But for some reason I think it is important to you."
Colin as Karl Popper's library angel.
That book changed my life by changing how I looked at life. It was a spiritual re-birth.*
Many of you will know it. Scott Peck's A Road Less Travelled.
The Washington Post reviewer thought "This is not just a book but a spontaneous act of generosity by an author who leans towards the reader for the purpose of sharing something larger than himself."

My point is that Scott Peck is a psychiatrist.
