Geoengineers to release planet-cooling gas into New Mexico atmosphere

Two Harvard engineers are planning to spray thousands of tonnes of sun-reflecting chemical particles into the atmosphere to artificially cool the planet, using a balloon flying 80,000 feet over Fort Sumner, New Mexico.

The field experiment in solar geoengineering aims to ultimately create a technology to replicate the observed effects of volcanoes that spew sulphates into the stratosphere, using sulphate aerosols to bounce sunlight back to space and decrease the temperature of the Earth.

David Keith, one of the investigators, has argued that solar geoengineering could be an inexpensive method to slow down global warming, but other scientists warn that it could have unpredictable, disastrous consequences for the Earth’s weather systems and food supplies. Environmental groups fear that the push to make geoengineering a “plan B” for climate change will undermine efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

Keith, who manages a multimillion dollar geoengineering research fund provided by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, previously commissioned a study by a US aerospace company that made the case for the feasibility of large-scale deployment of solar geoengineering technologies.

His US experiment, conducted with American James Anderson, will take place within a year and involve the release of tens or hundreds of kilograms of particles to measure the impacts on ozone chemistry, and to test ways to make sulphate aerosols the appropriate size. Since it is impossible to simulate the complexity of the stratosphere in a laboratory, Keith says the experiment will provide an opportunity to improve models of how the ozone layer could be altered by much larger-scale sulphate spraying.

“The objective is not to alter the climate, but simply to probe the processes at a micro scale,” said Keith. “The direct risk is very small.”

While the experiment may not harm the climate, environmental groups say that the global environmental risks of solar geoengineering have been amply identified through modelling and the study of the impacts of sulphuric dust emitted by volcanoes.

“Impacts include the potential for further damage to the ozone layer, and disruption of rainfall, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions – potentially threatening the food supplies of billions of people,” said Pat Mooney, executive director of the Canadian-based technology watchdog ETC Group. “It will do nothing to decrease levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere or halt ocean acidification. And solar geoengineering is likely to increase the risk of climate-related international conflict – given that the modelling to date shows it poses greater risks to the global south.”

A scientific study published last month concluded that solar radiation management could decrease rainfall by 15% in areas of North America and northern Eurasia and by more than 20% in central South America.

Last autumn, a British field test of a balloon-and-hosepipe device that would have pumped water into the sky generated controversy. The government-funded project – Stratospheric Particle Injection for Climate Engineering (Spice) – was cancelled after a row over patents and a public outcry by global NGOs, some of whom argued the project was a “Trojan horse” that would open the door to full-scale deployment of the technology.

Keith said he opposed Spice from the outset because it would not have improved knowledge of the risks or effectiveness of solar geoengineering, unlike his own experiment.

“I salute the British government for getting out and trying something,” he said. “But I wish they’d had a better process, because those opposed to any such experiments will see it as a victory and try to stop other experiments as well.”

The Guardian understands that Keith is planning to use the Gates-backed fund to organise a meeting to study the lessons of Spice.

Secret Operation Exposes Global Warming Fraud

http://pakconnect.wordpress.com/2011/11/30/2143/

This post is based mostly on a October 23, 2011 Presentation by Rosalind Peterson and Allan Buckmann at the Radio Liberty Seminar in Aptos, California.

Newly revealed US and UK Agenda on a “Global Geoengineering Governance”

“A Weather Modification program in progress for decades and before global warming was a recognized issue – is not a “TEST” – It’s a Policy”. – H. Saive

In 2010, The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) presented a session where SAG was presented as a geoengineering method of choice. Geoengineer, David Keith was lead presenter where he made the case for high altitude release of aluminum particles from jet aircraft as the most effective and “affordable” method to mitigate Anthropomorphic Global Warming (AGW).

Keith’s AGW mitigation method also requires releases of water vapor from jet engines so that the aluminum particles remain at high altitude for long enough to be effective at re-radiating solar energy back into space before ultimately descending to earth – however this strategy reveals a gaping hole in logic.

Since the major greenhouse gas (GHG) in the earth’s atmosphere in water vapor, it would be disingenuous to assume – without rigorous testing – that adding more water vapor (GHG) to facilitate a mitigation strategy using aluminum particles could be effective. What’s more – Stanford U. research already confirms that water vapor from jet aircraft engines is responsible for 20% to 30% of atmospheric warming.

To Contrast GHG’s: Water vapor makes up 85% of GHG’s while CO2 is less than 0.04% or about ½ of 1/10 of 1 percent.

During presentations to members of the House committee, geoengineer actually admitted that these schemes were “risky” and could end up polluting water resources, and ruining crop soils. But in the end, geoengineering lobbyists spoke with Orwellian logic that geoengineering schemes might be necessary in order to save the Earth. Furthermore, they insist that climate mitigation (an un-controlled experiment) must begin on a global scale because once we start, we’ll not be able to stop.

Jeremy Rifkin, Author of the Third Industrial Revolution is profound when he reminds us: “The primary economy on the Earth is photosynthesis.”

What does it mean when geoengineers plan to deliberately prevent full sunlight from reaching people, crops, oceans and forests on the earth’s surface?

Why doesn’t it matter that millions of solar panels will lose charging capacity when the sky is covered with endless days of man-made clouds and atmospheric haze?

Why is Rickets (vitamin D deficiency) returning and on the rise as a bone softening disease and precursor to babies born with low IQ? Vitamin tablets do not replace absorption of “Vitamin D” via natural exposure to sunlight.

Let’s be clear: When geoengineers talk about climate mitigation, they are talking about the deliberate suppression of life-sustaining processes on planet earth. They are not planning to save you from anything.

...

They've been doing this for years I think.

The earth's changing electro magnetics are responsible for some of the odd skies we see too.

But they don't spray chemtrails over non nato countries.

Ain't that right, Gnomad?

FWIW, since the controversy over chemtrails heated up about 6 to 8 years ago and as a result of my modest reading-up on it, I've had a sneaky suspicion that the nation and much of the world's jet fuel has been modified with nano-particles of barium and aluminum salts and whatnot precisely to take 'advantage' of the low-key high-deniability mass-dissemination potential of commercial and military aviation. Reading in the above-quoted article by Burnt Hill re: the 2010 American Association for the Advanceent of Science presentation in which, "Stanford U. research already confirms that water vapor from jet aircraft engines is responsible for 20% to 30% of atmospheric warming.", and geoengineer David Keith's thesis re: high altitude release of aluminum particles to alleviate AGW totally corraborates my 'hunch'. It certainly complies with what we know about decision-making re: technical & military projects that have enormous consequences which are routinely made in secret, with the total absence of any informed public debate let alone disclosure and with next to NO effective accountability.

I'm far more undecided about whether large-scale direct-spraying by tanker aircraft routinely occurs as it seems that would be far harder to keep secret -- though not impossible.

A pretty compelling observation affirming the large impact aviation plays in air-quality was the pronounced clearing of US skies in the weeklong moratorium of commercial air traffic following 9/11. Incidental comparative proof-of-concept?

What the hell IS going on?
