Really? That's interesting Minimi! (also, sorry to hear about the passing of Verne Troyer the other day).

Would you have a few examples for us?

The Aristotle Trolling descriptions fit the behaviors many of us have objected to, especially the “trolling” and “trolls” labeled as such on RI.

The mythological origins of the term, including fishing techniques and the denizens lurking in the darkness under bridges, can also metaphorically apply in a stretch.

But the very real technique of trolling the internet for purposes of disruption and adopting a troll role solely to cajole is an all-too-common goal of an empty soul.

Ha!

So far I've got English, Japanese and Korean for the fishing troll. Is that all? I wonder if there is a linguistic trail between them...

Zero votes for the other monsterly kind.

I think trolling is more of a tendency than anything else. I assume most of us do it sometimes. I know I do. Maybe it's just me. Though does seem fairly natural to express our feelings, moods, reactivity in dialogue sometimes, IMHO. Most of the time, though, I have gotten good at noticing the tendency in myself before posting. But on bad days, I only notice I've done it later and often after rightly getting shot down. And, for that matter, at least once I've been called a troll on sites where opinion is more uniform and I posed a genuine but contra-consensus question.

PS:

This is one of the most interesting things I've seen on this site in awhile. What do you fish for SLAD? I really want to take up fly-fishing one of these days.

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.
