Really? Got any evidence to back up this bullshit statement? Or does it come whence such bullshit statements usually originate?

Abstract DNA samples from Falasha Jews and Ethiopians were studied with the Y-chromosome-specific DNA probe p49a to screen for Taql restriction polymorphisms and haplotypes. Two haplotypes (V and XI) are the most widespread in Falashas and Ethiopians, representing about 70% of the total number of haplotypes in Ethiopia. Because the Jewish haplotypes VII and VIII are not represented in the Falasha population, we conclude that the Falasha people descended from ancient inhabitants of Ethiopia who converted to Judaism.

The Falashas, the Ethiopian Jews, have been proven by genetic testing to be Hebrew, hence their mass admission to Israel. And if there was never an original Ark, that would surely make this the original as the only modern contender. Pity only the priest las is allowed to see it so they can't carbon date it. However the Bible records the original's presence in Israel centuries after Solomon's time, which is the date given in the Menelek story for it's removal to Ethiopia.

I can't recall the details, but the Falashas apparently had (before almost all of them took advantage of Israel's law of return, something I'm sure did not make some people happy) a tradition of crafting arks that was not unique to them; there's at least the remnants of one in museum storage somewhere in Africa (I don't believe it was Ethopia but my memory is failing here)

Can't vouch for the source, but FWIW:

Ethiopian Ark of the Covenant Not To Be Revealed After All
Posted on June 26, 2009 by Richard Bartholomew

Following on from my last post, apparently we all missed this report in Adnkronos last week , which includes a clarification from Ethiopian Orthodox patriarch Abuna Pauolos:

Non sono qui per dare delle prove che l’Arca sia in Etiopia, ma sono qui per dire quello che ho visto, quello che so e che posso testimoniare. Non ho detto che l’Arca sarà mostrata al mondo. E’ un mistero, un oggetto di culto.

A Freeper has helpfully provided a translation:

I am not here to give proofs that the Ark is in Ethiopia, but I am here to say what I saw, what I know and I can attest to. I didn’t say that the Ark would be revealed to the world. It is a mystery, an object of veneration.

which is why i didn't reply to it. i think it is probably fictional and/or just a cult prop to keep the priests psyched.

if it was real we [the west] would have stolen it from them by now.

I swear to God, in my lifetime, years ending in 9 are just crazy.

1989 was a huge year for me personally and for the world. Tianamen Square, the Berlin wall coming down, the revolution in Romania ....

Then 1999 we had, well, 1999 and the whole "end of the millenium" thing.

And now it's another one, 2009. It's just crazy. For me, personally, too, unfortunately it's pretty much all bad for me.

If Jesus returned before the end of the year, I would not be surprised. Nor would I be by pretty much anything else you could think of.

Doesn't Tim Burton have some futuristic movie called "9" coming out?

Yeah 1989 was freaking nuts.

Tiennamen Square, Berlin wall("fall of communism), so called "creation of al Qaeda", Bush Sr's Christmas destruction of Panama City, unveiling of the Stealth Bomber, etc

With the Iran "revolution" and such, it's like theyre trying to recreate that old feeling.

Whenever I see you guys mention "9", I can't help but think 9/11 and "The Nine". How sick is that?

Also, there is three 9 movies out this year:
"9", "Nine", and "District 9".

The Idea that Black People could actually lay claim to this, is, of course, a travesty! It Can't be the original Ark because they're just a bunch of silly old men who have been illuminating manuscripts and hiding Christians and Jews in their mountain fastnesses for the last 1,500 years! I mean, after all, it's not like these Coptic Ethiopians know how to carve entire churches out of living rock--a feat unequaled on planet earth--or build the world's tallest real obelisks.
not that I truly care whether it's the 'real' ark or not -- but so long, and thanks for all the coffee! THAT is Ethiopia's greatest gift to humankind (along with humanity itself, of course). And thank you so much for Sept. 11, Mr. Selassie.
no jesus, no cry.

First thing that popped into my head when I saw the headline was, "Dont Christian Ethiopians celebrate new years on 9/11? And wasnt 9/11/2001 the start of the new millennium for them and Egyptian Coptics?"

They didn't just tak eadvantage of the law of return, they were traded to Israel by General Mengistu in exchange for weapons. Every Ethiopian Church has a mock up of the ark of the covenant. There's one or two in the British museum, left over from a nineteenth century military adventure into the Ethiopic highlands.
