First thing I thought of was McChrystal's recent press-release admission that a surprising number of civilians have 'accidentally' been killed in Afghanistan, tho lacking the conviction of a sincere apology. Seems like it could be part of an attempt at pre-emptive worst-case bad-press damage control, ie. from a damning leak.

One thing that really struck me with the editor's speculation over possible cause for the CIA's blatant spying on their activities in sovereign Iceland was their leaked report of a secret US Intel Report on how to undermine, discredit and destroy wikileaks' credibility. Jeez, was THAT ever a fortuitous whistle-blowing coup. Thank goodness SOMEBODY has a sense of regard for truth and integrity in the face of loyalty oaths to an agency committed to slippery-slope rationalizing all abuses and excesses as vital for the greater good. But all of the possible triggers reveal some notion of how widespread the covert intrigue is and some idea of the range of US interests and what the stakes are. These gambits have implications about covert interests that most Americans haven't the slightest idea about. Aggravated by the typical hypocrisy of presuming to be 'protecting' a democratic society that values freedom and the consent of the governed while secretly undermining and manipulating that very consent. Re: The Red Cell Memorandum on how to play Germany and France for their continued Afghan War support. Fer Chrissakes, at what point does the facade of democracy become so obvious that there's no longer any point in pretending its anyone but the fatcat oligarchs, corporate elites and religious-extremist warmongers who control and game every aspect of the system for their own twisted benefit?

The CIA is part of a vast information-control infrastructure encompassing a truly mind-boggling assortment of private, public and state entities and their interests -- in which the very notion of the CIA being an exclusively 'American' agency is a question the seriousness of which is undoubtedly directly proportional to how fantasticly impossible the chances are that the public would ever have that question substantially answered. So, WHO are 'they' really working for?

* our ongoing work on a classified film revealing civilian casualties occurring under the command of the U.S, general, David Petraeus.
* our release of a classified 32 page US intelligence report on how to fatally marginalize WikiLeaks (expose our sources, destroy our reputation for integrity, hack us).
* our release of a classified cable from the U.S. Embassy in Reykjavik reporting on contact between the U.S. and the U.K. over billions of euros in claimed loan guarantees.
* pending releases related to the collapse of the Icelandic banks and Icelandic “oligarchs”.

Not directly related to the OP, but some recent background video on Wikileaks:

Features a short interview with Julian Assange, Wikileaks editor

Seems like Iceland is showing us all how it's done, what with the recent snubbing of the banks and sustaining Wikileaks too. :cofee:

Edit: My comment about Iceland is not an endorsement of this, however
