I don't appreciate the viewpoints from Christwire.org — nor do I really care for the idea of driving traffic to them.

They have as little to do with Christ as they have to do with common sense. They appear to have a lot to do with anti-Muslim bigotry though.

Seconded. The irony factor should at least be properly contexturalized, though I would hope that the mere posting of that type of article at RI is enough to illuminate the faulty thinking behind such obvious hate. It is a bit interesting to see how the other half lives.

hmm, didn't mean to cause offense.

I followed the OP across the net and back to Tyner's blog, some of the comments match up to the … don't know what to call it, reflected in the CW piece.

anyway, tangentially to that trek across the net and reactions to Tyner's own writings, I found these guys: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

they have a section:

What is going on in the clogosphere?
This is RationalWiki's snarkilicious take on some of the more "WTF" or egregious blog entries out there. The best can be found Best of the clogosphere and older entries can be found in the archives.
Be wary of Poe's Law, if something seems too outrageous to be true use {{poe}}.

and looking through that i found this:

ChristWire finally admits to being a parody site. Another victory for Poe. Update: ChristWire reacts to its own outing.

it is funny, but not entirely.

some people on this board construct arguments in the same manner as the CW parodies, and they do it in earnest.

so...

This was the bit that caught my eye
"By buying your ticket you gave up a lot of rights,"

I always imagined buying my ticket I was simply buying the right to travel. Is this in the small print, the brochure, the adverts?

Had to look up albiceleste. Ohhh, the futball. I honestly thought it was some angelic rendering of 'Brazil' that signified it was your coffee break or something... or it was time to pay attention to the strolling musicians... or the albiceleste were a favourite band playing a favourite song on the radio and you misted up.

Am I reading it wrong or is the OP suggesting Mr. Tynon has a small penis?

Surely if he was confident in his size he'd be happy to wave it in their faces, right?

Probably not.

Shahrukh Khan autographed pictures that security staff took of him in one of those scanners and seized the opportunity to hint at his dick size... He said: "It makes you embarrassed – if you're not well endowed. [...] Then I saw these girls – they had these printouts. I looked at them. I thought they were some forms you had to fill. I said 'give them to me' – and you could see everything inside. So I autographed them for them.”

Not really the reaction one would hope for...

This is pure doublebind in action. It's the ability for "power" to belittle and psychologically enslave those they APPEAR to be giving "power" to just by dint of "letting them" travel at all. They've given us our pervs which no sane or empathic human would do without so outside prodding and now they are giving us the security theater that is taking on some aspects of the "perverts" they want us to believe are out there. It's all psychological and has no basis in basic common human decency. In other words, they're deliberately putting this perv shit out there in order to cover for the greater crime. They're moving in on our heads, not our crotches.

But because they've been able to move in on our crotches necessitates that they were able to socially move in on our minds and previous instances in our lives. Hence this is why it works so well. Give them the opposite of what is expected, generate the outrage, let outrage go and peter itself out and then there you are -- you've taken one more step towards totalitarianism which can finally, at long last, get into our faces. Which is what the "right" the corporate "christian" right has wanted for forever. The outrage is what is wanted, because they know it has been pre-neutered. Or spayed -- take your pick.

They want us to say WTF?!?!? I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this whole thing was just a well-laid hoax IN AND OF THE ALL IMPORTANT DOUBLE-BIND. Preload all necessary totalitarian actions with it's very own built in controversy, before the controversy even starts.

What will we do today, Rob?

Well, what we're going to do is continue to make the USA a totalitarian state, Cliff.

Well, Rob, of course I know that. Don't be silly.

So I need to get your people to work up some kind of a viral mechanism to make it all seem workaday and outrageous at the same time.

I got it, Rob! I got it. Virally market a sketchy cellphone deal where some guy goes through our new security measures and has his camera on the whole time and then release! People get pissed, but they have no power to do anything about it. After all we're the one's who give them permission to travel in the first place.

That just may work, Cliff. In fact, I know it will. Good work. Get on it.
There is no me. There is no you. There is all. There is no you. There is no me. And that is all. A profound acceptance of an enormous pageantry. A haunting certainty that the unifying principle of this universe is love. -- Propagandhi

I propose "National Opt-Out with a Boner Day." It's simple really, look at some porn on your mobile device while waiting in line, get a huge boner, and have the TSA guy feel you up. I guaran-goddamn-tee a large percentage of these screeners are straight and somewhat homophobic, and would quit their jobs after two hard-ons.

Believe it or not, this exact problem has come up before - the result was a TSA agent beating one of his colleagues with an extendible night-stick (compensating much?) in the car park because he couldn't take the insults any more. The TSA, overall, seem like a competent and professional body of people, who can be trusted with the security challenges of the 21st century, and are well suited to the responsibilities given them.

Small Manhood Jokes Lead to Miami TSA Officer's Arrest
Miami TSA Officer Allegedly Attacked Other Screener for Months of Genital Jokes

By SCOTT MAYEROWITZ
May 7, 2010

A Miami Transportation Security Administration screener was arrested this week after allegedly using an expandable police baton to beat up a co-worker in an airport parking lot.

Miami TSA Screener Rolando Negrin was charged with assault after allegedly attacking a co-worker who had been making fun of the size of his genitals.

The disagreement started several months ago when screener Rolando Negrin, 44, and his co-workers were trained on the TSA's controversial full body image scanners.

The body scanners allow TSA staff in a separate room view images of the of airline passengers' full bodies, private parts and all, with the passenger's face blurred.

According to the police report, during the training exercise the machines revealed that Negrin "had a small penis and [his] co-workers made fun of him on a daily basis."

After months of ridicule, Negrin told the police that "he could not take the jokes anymore and lost his mind."

So on Tuesday night, when fellow screen Hugo Osorno, 34, arrived at his car at the end of a shift, Negrin was allegedly waiting for him.

Negrin wanted Osorno to let him inside the car to "resolve a problem and finally respect him," according to the police report. When Osorno refused to open the passenger door, Negrin allegedly came around the vehicle and took out his police baton.

He then allegedly said in Spanish: "Get on your knees or I will kill you and you better apologize," two other TSA agents told police.

"I'm going to blow your head off," one of the officers also allegedly heard Negrin say.

With the police baton, Negrin then started to hit Osorno on his arms and back. Osorno told police he "was in fear" and apologized. Negrin then left the parking lot in his own car.

Osorno was treated for his injuries by the fire department in the lot. He suffered bruises and cuts on his back and arms. Negrin was arrested the next day at his post at the TSA checkpoint.
