About those ever-changing local grievances:

Wael Nawara of the [Egyptian] opposition party Al Ghad told RT funding and guidance from NED, NDI, IRI and USAID has increased in the past two years, and that NDI and IRI are operating in Egypt illegally.

Other countries the US has intervened in include the Philippines, Haiti, Nicaragua, Ecuador, El Salvador, Kyrgyzstan, and the Palestinian territories.

The USAID has implemented so called democracy promotion initiatives in over 100 countries in the past 25 years. This year’s budget is $1 billion dollars. According to USAID’s website, spending $10 million in a target country increases its amount of democratic change fivefold.

Blum insists there is pure hypocrisy in Washington’s democracy promotion agenda. "We have a very clear law on the books prohibiting foreign governments from interfering in our elections of supporting any candidates with money. So we do exactly abroad what we prohibit here at home,” he said.

Encouraging transparency is a stated core element of the US government’s democracy promotion efforts in foreign countries. But here at home the agencies themselves are far from transparent. Detailed program budgets and information are unavailable to the public and contact with the media is limited. Over the last six weeks, RT repeatedly requested interviews from USAID, NED, IRI and NDI. All of these requests were denied or unanswered.

Pepe Escobar, a South America based journalist for the Asia Times said US democracy promotion programs use political or other grievances in countries to push and coordinate their own agenda.

“They use the locals,” said Escobar. “They mix their preoccupations and their grievances with the classic full spectrum dominance Washington agenda.”

Thank you for quoting, and highlighting, the words of Pepe Escobar. I'll do the same.

The Gulf's terror of democracy
By Pepe Escobar

There's a specter haunting the Persian Gulf: democracy.

This Tuesday, no less than 20% of the population of Bahrain poured into the Lulu (Pearl) roundabout in Manama in its biggest anti-feudal monarchy demonstration intimately connected to the great 2011 Arab revolt. A whole cross-section of Bahraini society - teachers, lawyers, engineers, their wives and children - rolled along in a wide, unbroken column of red and white, the colors of the national flag.

...

The Western-concocted Disneyworld narrative that King Hamad was "reform-minded", interested in "advancing democracy" and "preserving stability", was totally shattered by his mercenary army firing live ammo from anti-aircraft guns from APCs at protesters who were carrying flowers, or American Bell helicopters overhead chasing people and shooting at them.

A Twitter posting last week by Bahraini journalist Amira al-Husseini summed it all up; "I too love Bahrain. I am Bahraini. My blood is Bahraini - and I witnessed my country die in the eyes of its children today."

...

Were peaceful, democratic regime change happen in Bahrain, the mega-losers would be Saudi Arabia and the US.

Bahrain is a classic case of the US empire of bases colluding with an unsavory feudal monarchy/dictatorship. Naturally the US Joint Chiefs of Staff favors dictatorship-dictated "order and stability" - as well as old colonial power Britain; the massacres of civilians in Bahrain - and Libya - have been brought to you by the Sandhurst military academy and BAE systems.

...

The great 2011 Arab revolt, for all its specific reasons in different countries, is definitely not about religion (as Mubarak, Gaddafi and Hamad have claimed) - but essentially working class unrest directly provoked by the global crisis of capitalism.

Clash of civilizations, end of history, Islamophobia and other silly concepts are dead and buried. People want their social rights, and to navigate the waters of political democracy and social democracy. In this sense the Arab street is now the vanguard of the whole world. If the al-Khalifa don't get it, they are bound to go down.

More than 50 years ago, the Mossad planted ten Israeli Jews posing as Muslims to act as sleeper spies among the Arabs, and later withdrew them. No doubt there were other such cases, and no doubt other countries engaged (and engage) in similar practices.

This has no conceivable relation to the present-day Arab revolutions involving tens of millions of people taking to the streets against the long-standing CIA-backed and Israel-allied dictatorships and monarchies, so far a welcome challenge to US imperialism and Israeli hegemony. The lack of any connection is so evident that loopy doesn't bother to even try constructing one.

Lupe's upset that almost none of you could possibly find reason to agree with his "color revolution" theory of Egypt, a country about which he displays great ignorance. In a real life discussion, he would have lost your attention long ago as a hopeless case. Here, he starts a couple of new threads every week to rope you back in. Lately these have been failing. Now he's reaching for any random association to make you argue this nonsense some more. This latest is without shame -- next I'm expecting something about Meyer Lansky dealing in Egyptian antiquities as connected to Tahrir Square -- but I doubt Lupe knows it.

Sorry to be so cruel, but you are mean old man.

I have loopy on ignore but unfortunately I still see his thread titles and whether he gets responses. The ignore function needs to be extended.

Considering the information he must possess on the agency, I hereby predict he'll either be found in a spiderhole, or wind up like El Cara de Pina.

aside from the spook struggles here on the board, this issue relates to human rights violations against children, I just draw attention to the issue named here "CIA children", re children of those sham marriages which are in fact some form of state sanctioned rape (the procurement of consent to sex by false statements).

Recently I think there are slightly more female spies marrying non jewish guys abroad for same, which might be slightly better for the children of those professional marriages.

regertfully, the issue of the children is rarely mentioned in these discussions. Sorry for sidetracking.

Interesting article, but since Escobar contradicts himself repeatedly in his futile effort to come up with a convincing explanation for any of these demonstrations, I'd say he had it right in the RT piece, which appeared in November, before the operation actually got into gear.

Thanks hava, you've cut to the chase. The connection that originally occurred to me is that some of those youthful bloggers might be offspring of such marriages, but it's only speculation.

Lupercal, the children you referenced were born in the early 60's, hard to imagine them as "youthful bloggers".
Also, those children are reported to have severe identity issues (ya think?).
Really hard to imagine them acting as double agents in a coherent and effective way.
Maybe you are just shifting the goalposts a little here with your stated speculation to hava1.

^ Not children of these particular marriages, no, but of subsequent ones. It's the nature of limited hangouts to be piecemeal and past perfect so goons who read the NYT can claim it all happened 50 years ago and has no relation to current events, like Ajax has nothing to do with what's going on today, nothing in the world, except that it does. Whether any mediagenic bloggers in Egypt and Iran are offspring of CIA marriages I don't know, but the ones I've heard interviewed sound about as authentic as BP's environmentalists.

p.s. here's a shorter version of the video embedded in the RT article cited above:

thanks B.Hill , I was not really hoping for the agenda here to switch to the plight of those children, just FWIW, yes identity problems and more. Met just a few of those, and gosh, did they have identity problems. But yes, I imagine some were operational, although their being mentally not so stable, would mean they could not be effective for long, but for short term, yes.

If anyone is cocnerned with how US intervenes abroad, they should make it their business to protect children's rights, by making this "habit" much thinner and to push for rules w/r to the off springs of those marriages. From what I saw, the children are regarded and treated as property of the CIA (or the respective service), and have no human rights, anywhere in the globe. Anyway, the idea of breeding "slaves" is despicable.

. Plus, I always remind people that these children are not at fault, ever, and that some might develop their own mind, and it might be a good one too. Nothing is predestined in "breeding" humans, as Moses grew up in the court of Pharao and eventually developed his own mind. Its a legend but reflects a deeper truth.
