First of all, although it's hardly news, ABCNEWS and anyone else who even incidentally propagates lies on this scale deserves to be driven out of business yesterday:

The scandal was entirely O'Keefe's, not ACORN's. No children were involved. No party intended or planned to involve any children. No sex was involved. No trafficking or intent to traffick was involved. Every word of ABC's shorthand is a lie.

Posing as a pimp - but dressed as a college preppie - O'Keefe and his confederate visited many ACORN offices with a hidden camera running, and asked employees there for assistance with his fabricated plans to traffick children for sex. The proposition was entirely O'Keefe's. After attempting this deception at many ACORN offices, he finally found non-English speaking ACORN employees who nodded as though in assent. He edited the resulting footage, crudely, in an attempt to make it look as though ACORN would participate in such schemes. ABCNEWS and its corporate news siblings made O'Keefe's fabrications into a huge story, destroying ACORN, as O'Keefe and Breitbart had intended. As the real details became undeniable, some outlets issued corrections, but none on a scale that could make up for what they had done. Repeating this language today as though it was a remotely accurate shorthand (the rule being, if people generally remember it a certain way, it must have been so) distorts history and hides ABCNEWS's own role.

As for Breitbart, it's actually a common age for aneurisms and AVP-related cranial hemmorrhages to manifest. Happened to an uncle of mine at 39. (Not a big worry for you 40s - your troubles are more likely to begin in your 60s.) He was reportedly (just saying) a heavy drinker. And the video of him screaming at Occupy did not make the impression of someone who would be eating whole grains and meditating into their 80s.

I was not aware of Breitbart at all until the news of his death, and my impression of him was that he appeared to have a problem with personal hygiene, he looked unkempt, unbathed.

And then watching the video Jeff posted, well, not only does Breitbart behave like a total lunatic, I find it ironic that he was calling the protestors "dirty freaks and animals."

Looking forward to hearing the results of the toxicology report.

My girlfriend said the same thing, until I told her that there's no way the "pimp and ho at ACORN" video would have been so cartoonish to anyone with even a rudimentary understanding of the sex profession. That guy hadn't the first fucking clue about it.

Reports were that he collapsed out on the street near his home.

American blog owner Andrew Breitbart is dead. He was 43 years old, and reportedly died of “natural causes” in Los Angeles early this morning. We knew Breitbart — “we,” meaning many of us who have written for Wonkette, including young Riley Waggaman, pictured above at left — and he was a pleasant enough goofball in person. Breitbart was also a talented writer of headlines (it really is an art!) who worked anonymously for many years as Matt Drudge’s assistant on the West Coast. What he is known for today is the vile collection of websites that includes “Big Government,” and his rambling, slurring appearances on broadcast media.

Breitbart leaves behind a wife and four children, along with hundreds of idiotic half-literate bloggers for his various websites who share his zeal for mindlessly attacking every non-wingnut aspect of life on Earth but lack his amiable personality. [Los Angeles Times/CNN]
