Um, no.

This is all kinds of weird. I'm going with the universe just throwing some synchronistic weirdness at us but I wouldn't discount key word hijacking either.

This is definitely another clear sign of the coming toypocalypse, and indicative of the reality of Terrance McKenna's research in defining the dolly-singularity according to the ancient Hasbro calendar.

No, Terrence McKenna is NOT "quite well known". Here, yes. In your world? Yes. But in America? Most definitely not.

You're talking about "culture" that "knows" Justin Beiber and Kesha, but certainly not Terrence McKenna.

Here are some other American Girl doll names:

Addy -- common
Emily -- extremely common
Josefina -- not so common
Julie -- averagely common
Kaya -- surprisingly common
Kit -- don't know anybody named "Kit" in my daughter's universe
Molly -- extremely common.

I'm honestly surprised they don't have a doll named "Savannah" or "Chloe" since those are two extremely common girl names in this demographic as well. They don't seem to name THAT many of their dolls.

Seriously, my stepdaughter knows at least 3 "McKennas" that I know of and probably more that I don't know of.

Yes, just like the guy with the shopping cart sitting on the nearby bus-stop bench babbling to someone that only he can see is not "always" wrong.

I just googled Mckenna, TM's wiki article showed up first on the list.

Google any of the other doll names.

I googled Addy. Got the "Addy awards"

I googled Emily. Got EmilyStrange clothing.

I googled Kaya and got a restaurant in Irvine California ....

It means nothing.

McKenna 2012 means nothing. Well, glad we settled that. What a dumb thread.

Nordic, how well known in America is Timothy Leary?

His knowbility is slipping since his death but I'd be TM is as well known as TL.

Meanwhile ... we can MAKE the connection - we already have!

Hey, this is pretty cool. Good find Weather Balloons!

My guess is that someone at American Girl enjoys psychedelics :thumbsup

Well, I thought it was interesting. I just don't really think it's possible that no one in the company would have pointed out the obvious connection between Terence McKenna and 2012 at some point in the design process. I still think they most likely settled on that name for this particular year as a marketing ploy. Or maybe it's just that the timewave function is collapsing as it reaches infinity, in which case I suppose everything will start being named McKenna.

I know a Kit. And she knows both another Kit and a Kat. True story.

I saw one of those on a bagpipe forum. Don't know if it's ours.

It could just be that one of the creative types at American Girl thought it would be a sly reference, and easy to get away with, as most people sadly still have no idea who the fuck Terence McKenna is.

Or ...

2012 is real, McKenna was touched by the hand of god, and the universe is a roiling sea of pure information, with a wicked awesome sense of humor, and a penchant for subtle spoilers.
