I've heard the same thing from the plants of earth. We're here because they let us. We are more like their pets than they are ours. They own the planet; we do not. They cultivate us more than we cultivate them.

That being said, it doesn't mean we have any right whatsoever to fuck everything up as we are doing. Our punishment may be pretty extreme, and deservedly so. We are failing, massively, as a species, and we refuse to acknowledge it.

As far as kids, if you think you shouldn't have kids because the world is already too fucked up, then you have already given up.

You have conceded.

To my credit, I was pretty stoned. But I'll never forget that one night all alone amidst the old growth in the impossible silence.

The Lady in the Radiator sings about heaven. The celebrated suffering of St. James and the life he made from what trees could give. What piece of the world we die on, a rock, a fabric, asphalt, steel or leaves. Which era would you rather live in? Would you have the end of the world come to pass without anyone to witness it?

"You see, you are not educated to be alone. Do you ever go out for a walk by yourself? It is very important to go out alone, to sit under a tree—not with a book, not with a companion, but by yourself—and observe the falling of a leaf, hear the lapping of the water, the fishermen’s song, watch the flight of a bird, and of your own thoughts as they chase each other across the space of your mind. If you are able to be alone and watch these things, then you will discover extraordinary riches which no government can tax, no human agency can corrupt, and which can never be destroyed." I'd really like to experience that again as well, before I kick off.

I don't know if I would want to experience THAT again at all. Because they signed off. They transmitted what they wanted me to know, not to say go forth young man and reshape the world. They just knew I was there and that I would listen to them and heed a warning or something. Most transforamative moment of my life.

The next day on a remote road on the way to Mount St. Helens we were waylaid by exactly this. Forgot about this part of it.

Here's another thing that just occurred to me, they noticed I was gazing at the stars. It was a super clear summer night on the slopes of a goddamn volcano! It gives me chills at how beautiful the setup was. I assume they noticed that. They have always been gazing above as well and it is imprinted in their seeds and pine cones -- the history of the procession of the stars. This, believe it or not, they relayed to me as well.

It's precession, but no matter, a wonderful story. Word gets around in the trees, indeed. Now I think we have at least one prescription for Mr bailey...

I just "OK"ed the thread by commenting on another comment. So the thread is still live. Steer it, chief, in the direction you wanted it to go in if it's all passive aggressive "OK then" territory now for you. You brought up a lot of shit I'd forgotten just by starting it and I do appreciate it, as I am looking at things from a somewhat different perspective. You created this miracle!

No I do not mean miracle. I just mean miracle. But steer this thread where you want it to go and what you want to find out. Not a big deal.

EDIT: Maybe you haven't checked out the "loss of cliche comprehension" thing I wound up starting, so maybe you were just referring to the precession and procession "eggcorn", I was "railing" about in another thread and semi committed one myself. That's it. Nothing to get worked up over from my penalty box.

When confronted with the fact that this may all be gone in fifty or seventy years, one might become a little "down". This post was always at the back of my mind, today at work, like a bad hangover headache. I then come home and find this. Like the saying goes... God provides.

to Nordic: I have conceded?

to 82_28: I will look at your thread. thanks. I really am not trying to "steer" this topic. Just freaked out by it all.

to Skunkboy: I listened to your youtube post. If I accept the premise of my original post, AW doesn't address it in any meaningful way. I'm thinking more along the if/then graph: should I buy catastrophic coverage? should I start storing vinegar, salt, flour, etc. should I let my cable subscription lapse and use that time and money saved for strength training or meditation? Hope seems pointless. sorry.

whatever happens, we'll live or die together and it will require a lot of cooperation and organization. So if/when the time comes, there'll be no shortage of people with assignments on offer.

Of course you should drop cable-tv and do self-improvement. :thumbsup
learning low-tech skills is a good idea too, no shortage of places on the web to learn. medical training if you can handle that sort of thing would always be very popular.
