it was the absolute certainty regarding an unknowable event that got to me from the start,

and then that idiot Aaron Bady calling Allen a child-molester whilst explaining that it didnt matter if he was wrong

tell that to the family of this bloke who was wrongly murederd and burnt
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2013 ... n-ebrahimi

having said that, i just read this quote and i couldnt help it ringing in my ears after Sunny's comments

“At core, men are afraid women will laugh at them, while at core, women are afraid men will kill them.”
http://katecarruthers.com/2013/10/sexis ... oing-away/
the question is why, who, why, what, why, when, why and why again?

Nonetheless true and worth repeating. Sorry your feelings were hurt... or something.

It's not an untrue statement. I whistle in the dark or sing to my dog when I'm walking and a woman is walking the other way. Big point being: I mean no harm, I am harmless, I will not hurt you. Not to contribute to paranoia, but we blokes kinda have a bad record, yeah?

“At core, men are afraid women will laugh at them, while at core, women are afraid men will kill them.”

Not core, not men, not women, not laugh, not women, not men, not kill, not them.

But it's the word left out--and all of four times--that is the rhetorical thrust of the statement.

Do you have a momma? A daughter? a sister? a girlfriend? a wife? Why don't you do an experiment? Ask one of them to walk down a bad street alone at night, dressed 'normally', not armed, no mace, no whistle, no dog, no big strong man she trusts. You will quickly understand how insulting it is to all women to call this literally truthful statement 'rhetoric' as if it is borne of hysterical fantasy...

Why would I do that? I wouldn't do it myself, and would be afraid of man, woman and beast. Does that make me a woman? Does that make men, women and beasts evil?

Edit: I notice that you use the word...

As a man alone on the street at night you would be afraid of being raped and killed by a woman? How likely is it that a woman would even try such a thing? How likely is it that gangs of women are lurking in shadows, just waiting for the opportunity to rape a man? Now I grant you, gangs of men have been known to mug, and/or rape and kill other men but how does that make it any better? How does that make the danger and fear any less severe for women?

EDIT: what word?

Sunny,

I'm sorry for your loss.

I already told you the word. And it is all over, conspicuous even in its absence. I notice you left it out of this post. Is that better or worse.

justdrew,

Hello!

Truly, sir, all that I live by is with the awl: I meddle with no tradesman's matters, nor women's matters, but with awl.

You know what I'm proud of? My activism, and my scholarship, ... but proud of being a victim in itself? Of all the insults and dismissals you've hurled my way in this thread, that's the most vile, fucked up, twisted, and sick thing you've said.

Maybe you aught to take a time out and reflect on why your argument depends on attacking the integrity of your opponents.
