It's been obvious that fascism has been here since, I dunno, world war 2. Full parade dress since about 1963. Where the hell have you been?

He didn't notice the fascism because it was wearing pantsuits.

But seriously it's not as if HRC is such a pacifist that she practically flutters around with olive branches in her beak.

I remember her from when I was younger. When her husband was bombing the Balkans and she was busy describing my generation, although mostly just the darkies, as "super predators", I think was the term. I was young then, Britney Spears is older than me but I remember. I remember their(her) total acceptance of aggressive invasions of sovereign nations for resources during the Bush regime. I can't forgive the bloodshed so easily. I joined the Greens before her return to executive power, watched more regime change and carnage and death. Soaked in the blood of innocents. I am not going to come running back to the lying corporatism, manipulation of democracy and warmongers in the Democratic Party. If they want my vote they could give serious consideration to ending resource wars and doing more than vaguely acknowledging that global warming might need to eventually be thought of as something worth thinking about maybe someday.

I'm not going to rubber stamp endless foreign atrocities as payment for the breadcrumbs of moderate social progress. And I definitely can't decide to abandon the party that closest represents my actual values, consistently without bloody compromise, just because I am afraid that big brother might be meaner than big sister.

But sure, blame me. It has nothing to do with the complete moral bankruptcy of your chosen ones.

We all should.

It's a lot more cathartic to point fingers, though.

Turner Classic Movies is showing The Sorrow and the Pity right now. A good hard look at how fascism creeps into the lives of ordinary people.

From 1940 to 1944, France's Vichy government collaborated with Nazi Germany. Marcel Ophüls mixes archival footage with 1969 interviews of a German officer and of collaborators and resistance fighters from Clermont-Ferrand. They comment on the nature, details and reasons for the collaboration, from anti-Semitism, xenophobia, and fear of Bolsheviks, to simple caution. Part one, "The Collapse," includes an extended interview with Pierre Mendès-France, jailed for anti-Vichy action and later France's Prime Minister. At the heart of part two, "The Choice," is an interview with Christian de la Mazière, one of 7,000 French youth to fight on the eastern front wearing German uniforms.

I don't think I will ever understand this remarkable faith in a war criminal. At least Trump and his following can be honest about what they're voting for.

I tried not to but it wasn't working out very well for me, nor drawing much attention as an act of protest. Pretty sure it helped get me on the no-fly list. Among other things. I also don't feel like it counts as protest if not paying isn't a choice because you're impoverished, but the argument could be made. It's not one I have a lot of agreement with. The problem isn't the tax money, it's who we pick to spend it.

These Democrats didn't end our wars, they expanded them. And began several new rounds of very troubling saber rattles, in their profound arrogance. Trump may be a disgusting excuse for flesh, but he hasn't actually been responsible for the deaths of thousands of brown people every year for the last couple decades. When we marched against the war in Afghanistan and all the others that followed, the Democrats(as an institution) weren't visible. I don't trust them for this reason.

Being not openly fascist isn't good enough anymore.

oh now give him a chance....he really hasn't been in charge long enough yet to kill that many people

we know he is a racist so it won't take him that long once he gets started

did you say you didn't vote?

.

For everyone's information:

There were 2.6 million Trump voters in New York State. (Clinton: 4.1)

In NYC, about 450,000. 140,000 in Queens. Including NYC and Nassau, 700,000 voters for Trump. In Jersey, 1.5 million (Clinton: 2.0). Most Jersey people are in northern Jersey, so in my metro area that makes about 1.7 million Trump voters. And I know people from all over these areas.

By comparison: Michigan, 2.2 million for Trump. Wisconsin, 1.3 million. Kansas, 400,000.

What's my point? Don't fucking lecture me about Trump voters. I know as many or more Trump voters as you do. They're in my family. They're in my long-term circle of acquaintances. They ain't shy. They will speak to me about politics. So don't tell me I don't know Trump voters. They are on the fucking subway too, I can smell them up close, they're not spread all over the wheat fields here. I know damn well what motivates them here. Obviously they are not displaced and alienated rural voters. They are generally not economically displaced. They are not appalled by neoliberalism or imperialism or any of those excuses some of you are making. Ha! Generally speaking, their position on neoliberalism is that everybody should fucking work hard and shut up. (I mean, other than, "What is neoliberalism?") They're savvy but they ain't all that smart. Their position on imperialism is that the Ay-rabs have not been bombed hard enough. Generally speaking, they are very straightforward about their racism. Don't you fucking lecture me about what motivated them to cast their votes for Trump. It's even more insulting to them than it is to me, to say that they didn't know what they voted for. It was a protest vote, absolutely: against things like having a black guy in the White House. And you can be sure it wasn't that the black guy was an imperialist. (What's "imperialism?") It was that he was black.

I would vote Green, but I don't like the name. Do I have to wear green?

You know, democrats, just a suggestion. If you're the party of the left, and you want to win elections, you should probably think about moving to the left, instead of blaming the left.

Never mind. 'Greens and non-voting heretics did it.'
