Slavoj Žižek wrote:What is Christianity? It’s the holy spirit. What is the holy spirit? It’s an egalitarian community of believers who are linked by love for each other, and who only have their own freedom and responsibility to do it. In this sense, the holy spirit is here now.

We really should make common cause with the Christians. The real Christians. The common people. The ones who read the New Testament for Jesus' Words of Wisdom.

Perhaps I might email Rowan Williams. He'll help. He's a Druid really, just look at his name. And you know I love druids.

Plenty of them out there. They're embarrassed to call themselves "christians" these days thanks to the fascistic faux christians who make all the noise.

Zizek is way over my head. Still baffled as to why he's being held up as a voice for #Occupy.

We had a successful action today at the statehouse, people's mic-ing Chicago Mercantile Exchange's effort to lobby the state for a "tax rebate" that's more than twice what they actually paid in taxes...and Lo, about an hour later, it was announced nobody wanted to deal with the bill so they're coming back for a special session on the 29th. Which is adorable, if anyone on Terry Duffy's team thinks that's "stratagy" ... they're basically giving us 20 days to prepare a bigger and better direction action campaign.

I'll post vid when it shows up.

Zizek on the NATO bombing of Belgrade in 1999:

So, precisely as a Leftist, my answer to the dilemma "Bomb or not?" is: not yet ENOUGH bombs, and they are TOO LATE.

Zizek's thoroughly mendacious justification of a racist pogrom against Slovenian Roma:
There was, in Slovenia, around a year ago, a big problem with a Roma (Gipsy) family which camped close to a small town. When a man was killed in the camp, the people in the town started to protest against the Roma, demanding that they be moved from the camp (which they occupied illegally) to another location, organizing vigilante groups, etc. As expected, all liberals condemned them as racists, locating racism into this isolated small village, while none of the liberals, living comfortably in the big cities, had any everyday contact with the Roma (except for meeting their representatives in front of the TV cameras when they supported them). When the TV interviewed the “racists” from the town, they were clearly seen to be a group of people frightened by the constant fighting and shooting in the Roma camp, by the constant theft of animals from their farms, and by other forms of small harassments from the Roma. It is all too easy to say (as the liberals did) that the Roma way of life is (also) a consequence of the centuries of their exclusion and mistreatment, that the people in the nearby town should also open themselves more to the Roma, etc. – nobody clearly answered the local “racists” what they should concretely do to solve the very real problems the Roma camp evidently was for them.

Zizek in Tel Aviv (breaking a boycott he pretended to support) on Palestinians and Africans:
someone from the Democratic Republic of Congo would sell his mother into slavery in a heartbeat for the chance to move to the West Bank.

Some of his best (imaginary) friends are black:
I met a big, black guy, and when we became friends, I went into it like, [assuming a naïve, awe-filled whisper] "Is it true that you have, you know [makes gesture signifying a gigantic penis]?" and (this is a racist myth I heard in Europe) "Is it true that you blacks can control your muscles so that when you walk with a half erection and there is a fly here you can BAM! [slaps thigh] snap it with your penis?" We became terribly close friends! Now, I'm well aware of how risky these waters are, because if you do it in the wrong context, in the wrong way, I'm well aware that this is racism.

Much more if you want it.

The dlisted or whatever interview made him look like an appalling idiot actually;

What is your earliest memory?
My mother naked. Disgusting.

What's disgusting about a naked mother?

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Their sleazy readiness to offer me help when I don't need or want it.

What makes you depressed?
Seeing stupid people happy.

What a miserable bastard. Is that what passes for cool in the modern world?!

And some of the other answers were worse;

What do you owe your parents?
Nothing, I hope. I didn't spend a minute bemoaning their death.

And so on. I don't think I'll bother quoting any more.

Interesting video. At the end when people started shouting in unison the cops immediately backed off. I don't know if it was coincidence or the unison chant changed the cop's mentality but it happened at the same time.

Part 1 of my Occupy Wall Street Photo Essay is so enormous at this point that it's launching extremely slowly on underpowered PCs.

With that in mind, I bring you Part 2.

As with Part 1, I'll be updating this on a continuing basis, so stay tuned.
