Seriously. Just scrolling past it and throat catches, tears well.
Mine too. Tears of joy and mourning. Every time I've tried to write something worthy of a read, thoughts about style and power and money and performing and visual arts, men and women in riot gear, religious fervor in the streets, violence against women in uprisings, I shut down. Once I start writing, sentences sound as if I've written an essay to expedite for wikipedia, not from the heart of it all; the rhythm I like to feel when reading is missing, right now. I'll be back though to add to this thread and others, as always.
I've wanted something to help jump start my writing, and I've searched for and not found even a short essay that expressed personal or philosophical thoughts about that OWS poster. Maybe someone will, or maybe someone at RI will. However, I've gotta tell you, the one piece of music that has stirred me most during the last few weeks is the piece
Sing by My Chemical Romance. It's posted in the
Listening thread.
Here's the wiki.
Sing was composed and performed for this
official video, well-produced but shows violence. You'd think I would've gotten over that, but still can't stomach too much of it. Nonetheless, as I ponder that poster while listening to
Sing, the contrasts and ache and disdain for masculine oppressions of the feminine are overpowering, and that's what I cannot seem to put words to. So, I let the music do it for me. For now.
While researching, I discovered the ballerina in the poster is in the dance position called
attitude derrière, if I'm not mistaken. Now, the word attitude would be a good metaphor for which to write a narrative wrt OWS, which btw I'm located far from, in my cozy home office man cave. The movement itself, in the locations I've seen via youtube and livestream, thinking about the many purposes for which groups are gathering, is something profound. I guess I'm preferring to sit with my feelings than put words expressing them. Well, maybe this post was all I needed to do.
I love RI.
