Police ID'ed him via his brother.

Law enforcement officials initially told NBC News that the gunman was Lanza's brother, Ryan, and they had sent out a bulletin to local and federal law enforcement agencies to that effect.

But when authorities went to Ryan's home in Hoboken, N.J., to search it, they unexpectedly found him there.

Ryan told police he was not involved and that his brother has a history of mental health issues and might have had his ID even though they had not seen each other in two years, officials said.

lupercal wrote:^ Not a whit of description or motive. About all we get is the name and we've had that since the story hit the wires last Friday. Jackson's fiction is more convincing.

There's as much description as there ever is. The motives of mass-shooter homicide-suicides aren't always knowable. But in the cases of people who have either survived or left some kind of record of what they hoped to accomplish by going on a daylight, killing rampage at a school or workplace or mall or cafeteria (or PUBLIC GATHERING SPOT CLOSE TO THEIR HOMES FREQUENTED BY PEOPLE IN SOCIAL GROUPINGS OF YOUR CHOICE HERE), it's almost always about taking (perceived) revenge on the world as an act of retribution for some kind of (perceived; and also often perceived as lifelong) rejection.

As a pure exercise in speculation -- ie, I personally am not actually arguing for or against it -- the stuff like Nancy Lanza's having been away for a couple of days and/or her reported wish to move to a smaller place, etc. might have been a trigger for that kind of scenario, in light of his evident dependence on her.

Carefully, police searched room to room, removing children and staff from harm's way. They found Adam Lanza, dead by his own hand after shooting up two classrooms; no officer fired a gun.

Maybe it was Lanza, maybe not. Let's say it was. How do we know he wasn't shot in bed like his mother and then dumped at the site? At the moment I think it's more likely that he was never at the school, and his corpse was shipped directly to the morgue, if he's in a morgue. But he might not be there either.

Well. Lanza's car was at the scene. So if he was shot at the house and then dumped at the school, there'd probably be too much blood in it to be easily overlooked, even by casual passers-by.

Furthermore, the killer would have had to have some way to leave the scene on foot without attracting the attention of the police and other first responders or (before that) any of the numerous teachers herding children to safety/diving for cover/getting shot themselves, during a six-or-so-minute window of opportunity during which he almost certainly would have been either covered in blood or carrying a body or both.

Or, alternatively, a third person would have had to drive Nancy Lanza's car to the scene and leave it there. That might be a little easier to work with, actually.

But if the lack of an on-the-record motive is a sticking-point for you wrt Lanza, I'd imagine it would be a nearly insurmountable obstacle wrt one or more theoretical perps who aren't even on the record to begin with themselves. It's not like there's any reason to think that the cops weren't stopping and questioning people whose presence in the vicinity wasn't immediately explicable. On the contrary. It appears that they were.

The weapons and car registered to Nancy Lanza and ID for Ryan Lanza found on the body of the presumed shooter-suicide pointed police towards the Lanzas, after which I'm assuming it was basic-investigative-work-unknown.

It was pretty quick. Within hours, I think.

Oh, woe are all of us! Another mass shooting ..terrible, clearly.. unsurprising that it has been followed by threats of gun control (as if at least 10 presidents haven't already had sufficient reason to instigate such a measure if they'd REALLY wanted to) (and I think it might be too late now.. horse, barn door, you get me) also followed by debates vis a vis the state of mental healthcare in this great land of Yours. It is sad, but what, pray tell, is 'mental health care' if not primarily the proper care and feeding of young people - you all let Monsanto become a food corp FFS and care not about the media your kids ingest so cry me a river about 'mental health care'...

Well.. i've tried to stay away from Newtown altogether because (regardless of Morgan Freeman who I believe in this case to be correct) I have also come to the conclusion that the ingestion of the details of these sorts of brutalities amounts to the de facto commission of these sorts of fatalities (sorta kinda but significantly enough)

But I hafta say that I've checked in here to see what the RI peeps think of the whole deal and .. well.. not surprisingly we have the two usual suspects up and about patting everyone on the head telling them, essentially, that there's 'nothing to see here.'

*sigh*

soo tiring, really.

I'd like to know, for one, which worldview the fish espouses that is fullfilled by his own interpretation of events? He doesn't cop to THAT in his diatribe. Interesting, but be aware that he must have one, and by his own admission must be satisfying it with his perspective.

And then we've got the tattoo.. blah blah I have lived in the suburbs 'not far from there' ( yes really, she said that, like it matters, lol) and 'you can't hear' and yadda yadda

I hafta wonder WTF the point is of belonging to such a board as this, if the habit is to simply steer the herd back towards regular Fox News-town all the time.

so yeah, I don't know what happened at the school and I'll never, ever look into it. It may have been a hologram. But what I do know is that when I check in here now and then it is abundantly clear that there are one or two RI personalities who seem to me to be reliably mainstream in their thinking.. and who fight verbosely to convince anyone reading that fringe thinking is stupid, juvenile, and probably unscientific.

It's gonna be the 22nd any minute now and we're still here.. That means that the fight is still on. So all you traditional materialists can suck it. I'm kickin' it old school and you're in my way.

I thought it was significant that in the movie Batman, Sandy Hook is pointed to on the map, and that the banner on a Shanghai hi-rise says Aurora in a promo shown at the Batman premier.

That crazy Aangirfan! I ain't much for Rense, but this kinda made sense... Quick history lesson: No references, FWIW:

http://rense.com/general95/mkultra.html

MK-ULTRA Links To
The Sandy Hook Assault

By Yoichi Shimatsu
12-20-12

My long-distance interest in the Sandy Hook events is based on ongoing work with a team of anti-pedophile journalists and activists who for over a decade have tracked and exposed American pedophile rings from Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam) to Beijing, China.

In all cases so far, our team discovered that these frontline pedophiles supply children for sexual services to VIPs traveling in Asia, including diplomats from the highest levels of the White House and State Department, top executives of major corporations, and heads of universities and aid agencies. Nearly all the patrons involved in this cruel pastime have backgrounds in US intelligence the CIA, NSA or State Department intelligence. The individuals are from diverse religious backgrounds Catholic, Jewish and Orthodox - while the core facilitators are often priests with Jesuit order, and to a lesser degree Franciscans and Benedictines...

... Starting in the 1980s, the DOJ, FBI and CIA launched an all-out war against the Patriciarca mob in order to install their puppet Whitey Bulger as crime boss of New England. FBI agent John Connelly took credit for infiltrating and busting up the Patriarca clan, but later he was exposed as a mole for Bulger. By the early 1990s, Bulger set up his Jai Alai Associates, a betting syndicate based in Connecticut and Florida. Finally, all of New England was safe for CIA smuggling, support for terrorism, money-laundering and mind-control operations.

In 2011, Bulger made headlines with his arrest in Malibu, California, where he had lived for more than a decade “undetected” despite being on the FBI “most wanted” list - on a long vacation thanks to his relationship with the CIA. If there was one point of irritation, however, between the Irish mobster and his controllers, it was his opposition to drug use by teenagers. After seeing first-hand how MK-ULTRA had destroyed the minds of his young recruits, Bulger ordered his gang members never to sell drugs to teenagers. Even a ruthless mobster has more decency that the self-styled “patriots” who run the intelligence services.

Child Porn Hub for New York and Washington

Whatever its genteel image of colonial homes and autumnal foliage, Connecticut has a sleazy underside embedded in its servant pool, welfare households and the chronic unemployed. Bridgeport, with its low-income Puerto Rican population, is a major center for prostitution and recruitment of prostitutes for VIP clients in New York and the nation’s capital.

The pedophile rings have a social-economic hierarchy at the top are the VIP clients, then the intermediaries, often Catholic priests or social-services managers, further down the ladder the operatives losers recruited from prep schools and college campuses - and finally the supply itself - money-hungry willing parents and the unwillingly abducted children.

Newtown, like Fairfield and Stamford, is part of the Diocese of Bridgeport, which got into legal trouble in 2001 due to lawsuits by 23 victims of pedophilia committed by priests. Bishop Edward Egan, then diocese head, was a protector of sexual offender priests, sending them to other areas when parental complaints reached the ears of the police. After the plaintiffs won an out-of-court settlement, the Diocese petitioned the US Supreme Court to quash the thousands of documents detailing the beastly sex crimes. In 2009 Opus Dei honcho Justice Antonin Scalia determined that the court records should not be made public.

In this past year’s pedophile scandal at Penn State, another Opus Dei leader, former FBI director Louis Freeh, was hired as a consultant by the Nittany Lions football team. His whitewash report put most of the blame on head coach Joe Paterno, while suppressing the names and backgrounds of the wealthy and powerful boosters who were provided sexual services from the young football players.

In Connecticut, the Vatican had an interest in wiping the slate clean, and so did the CIA. The clean slate turned out to be a bloody mess.

Agency-Spawned Pedophiles

The MK-ULTRA program that reached into campuses across Connecticut quickly created a human garbage heap of wrecked minds and twisted souls. The child abuse and drugs routinely administered to young trainees led to a permanent social fixture of sadism and sexual abuse throughout New England from the gutter up to the governing class.

In 2011, a Newtown resident named Edwin Wilson was arrested for having a months-long sexual relationship with a 4-year-old girl and producing child-porn videos of their sexual encounters. The arrest was a part of a wide crackdown order the state attorney general, Richard Blumenthal which boosted his successful campaign in the U.S. Senate race. Other cases included: a 24-year-old Hispanic male in Hartford who shot videos of sex with a pre-teen girl; a DJ in Plainfield arraigned on similar charges, an older theater and film teacher accused of using Taft school’s equipment to make kiddie porn the list goes on in sickening detail. Fairfield University, where MK-ULTRA was implanted into New England, recently saw two staffers implicated in the rape of 23 Haitian boys during the earthquake relief effort.

Adam Lanza fits the profile of a pedophile-ring recruit young enough to approach children at the local schools and in the churches, possessing the computer skills to produce child-porn videos and typically passive-aggressive in personality. The Lanzas attended the Saint Rosa of Lima Church, where eight child parishioners were among the shooting victims. Santa Rosa is the very same order that sponsors the western-state hospital that employed Michael Jackson’s physician Dr. Conrad Murray. As in the case of Jackson’s Neverland, after a child-sex experiment blossoms, it must be shut down.

The Lone Gun-Boy Theory

Nancy Lanza kept an arsenal of firearms, and ordered her son to be constantly under watch by older boys. She must have had good reason for being armed to the teeth. Judging from her hoard of rifles and hand guns, she was expecting an all-out assault from a coven of pedophiles, not an attack by a single shooter. The lone gun-boy theory is sheer nonsense her son may have been an accomplice in giving the assailants access to his home but ended up murdered as a patsy.

The coven is larger and more powerful than Mrs. Lanza could ever have imagined. Sexual violation is the key to creating intelligence agents and assassins who are impervious to reason and mercy, lacking any original thoughts or moral qualms. Plus a supply of children is needed in Congress and the White House to entertain the satraps and moguls from Colombian drug lords to Israeli weapons dealers and French money launderers, not to mention America’s own homegrown pervs...

... Was a Senate seat worth the lives of all those children and teachers? Blumenthal, who paints himself as a clone of the erstwhile New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, will have to live with that question for the remainder of his life. Is the CIA satisfied that its mind-control techniques that have created hordes of homicidal monsters from Iraq to Libya and now Connecticut?

The lesson of Sandy Hook is that mind-control cannot itself be controlled...

It's interesting you should mention Beslan, as that was the first mental comparison I made when I read about the ages of the victims. I've thought that the spectre of largescale attacks like OKC or 9/11 were over, and that
more low intensity random mass shootings could be used by whatever this thing is. Does anyone truly know what these Holmes/Loughners/Chos/Hawkins/Lanza kids are doing in their alone time, or looking up online?
Treading into wild speculation here. But under the hypothesis of a manchurian candidate, it would not be of the classic Sirhan Sirhan variety. It's possible some intel spooks got to Sirhan after his bad horse riding accident when he spent time in the Rosicrucian centers. However here, there would have to be no physical contact between contact and contactee.
I'm reminded of kids who get kids to kill themselves on webcams. Or the theory that the Fort Bragg shooting by Nidal Hasan was electronically instigated by Anwar al-Awlaki as a Yemen al Qaeda plot.

The profile of all these early 20 something guys who commit these school and public shootings feels so familiar.

One more thing...whenever something like this happens, there is always pointed out to be reports of a "second shooter". I sometimes what if perhaps there is no need for a second shooter. These kids are selected and tapped, and it's off to the races til they complete their mission and kill themselves or just stay frozen and allow themselves to be captured.

Look at Holmes. He finished his rampage. Came outside, disarmed and just waited for cops. It's like all these kids are specifically programmed to self terminate or shut down like a programmed service bot.

I'm sure you're familiar with the Fortean details of the Pearl Mississippi shooter, the event which kicked off the 1997-1999 school shooting epidemic; and really the breadth of the
modern young person shooting rampage(putting aside disgruntled middle aged workplace shooters) Far from West Memphis 3 hysteria, there was a lot of bizarre details that came
out about the shooter from his close friends and other schoolkids that you just can't make up.

I've been noticing a psychological trend with these modern youth perpetrated mass shootings.

They're getting fucking weird, on top of brazenly fucked up

A youth goes to assassinate a popular senator in a Safeway grocery parking lot, ending up killing a kid born on 9/11/2001 and a number of others
A youth bursts into a midnight premiere of a Batman movie dressed head to toe like a damn fascist stormtrooper, spraying the crowd with bullets and telling
cops he's "the joker". A youth arbitrarily breaks into a school and guns down 20 six year olds and their teachers. And of course, a youth
killing 33 students on a college campus. There's this very sharp arc going on.

http://copycateffect.blogspot.com/2012/12/No28.html
On a smaller scale, I too have been quietly cautioning that the copycat shooters appear to be moving from school, workplace, and postal shootings to church, mall, and theater violence, then returning to school venues, often, as their captive "fishbowl" theaters of murder. These, of course, are frequently followed by the actual purpose of the shooting - the suicide or suicide-by-cop of the shooter.

I have been aware that sporting events - baseball games, football contests, and other large audience confined stadium events - may be the next "target."

WOT AN ASTUTE OBSERVATION.

In my opinion the "mainstream" reporting-based aspects of this shooting are far more bizarre and mystifying and deep and dark and twisted than yet another essay at gluing up the rote, boring and pre-fab conspiracy wallpaper that automatically gets copy-pasted over every such event that comes along. Yawn.

Let's consider this detail. Why would Adam Lanza even carry id on the ride to the murder-suicide he supposedly planned so carefully in advance? If he was pulled over in that getup, with four guns in the car, would showing ID to a cop have sped him on his way? Negative. Secondly why his brother's? Doesn't make sense. What does make sense is that the operatives that shot him and his mother in their beds grabbed the wrong ID to supply to the media.

Apparently Adam lived in the basement after his brother moved out, but his brother had lived there previously, so it's likely that lots of his stuff was still lying around. This from experience of older sibs moving out after HS. Basically everybody's stuff hung around fondly until the parents finally moved. So the ops opened a drawer and grabbed Ryan's ID. They don't look that dissimilar; in fact the pic with the thumb guns a few pages back is evidently Ryan's, not Adam's.

I feel ya. But let's look at all the assumptions you have to make in order to take this line of reasoning to heart:

    - The job was carefully planned. Assumption.

    - He would be likely to take this occasion to remove his wallet. Assumption.

    - He had the guns and vest in the passenger compartment of the car. At least partly mistaken: the guns were in the trunk, and maybe the vest was as well.

    - His brother is lying about Adam probably having his ID. Assumption.

Now onto the larger leaps...

    - There were an un-named and un-numbered group of assassins targeting a suburban mother and her reclusive son, who were

    - Targeted for some unknown, unstated reason,

    - Who shot Nancy Lanza four times in the face, and

    - Killed Adam Lanza by simulating a suicide shot (or knocked him out with a blow or a drug), then

    - Grabbed the wrong ID after a search of the basement, then

    - Transported his body to the school in Nancy Lanza's car, along with

    - Her guns (but not all of them), and the op team, where they

    - Gained entry through a door with a camera pointed at it, and

    - Began killing teachers and students, but

    - Since some of them survived, they had to be certain they couldn't be identified, so

    - They pretended to be a screaming, angry killer, as noted by the witnesses, who

    - Shot rooms full of of six-year-old kids at point-blank range with frangible bullets, being certain that

    - The ballistics reports ont he bullets would all match a single gun registered to Nancy Lanza, and...

So on and so forth. A lot can go wrong here, don't you think? I'm all for looking at possibilities, but I really don't want to have to accept a scenario which sounds more and more like a bad science fiction short story the more I look at it, at least not without some pretty damn demonstrable reasons why I should.

It's all just a made up story, one that gets told with a few variations every time something like this happens, espoused on every open comment thread on the web, on places like Slate and Reddit, as well as on every usual suspect site on the internet with an "edgy", conspiracy-ish feel or a neat looking header splash. Is this tired default really all we get around here anymore? Just the easiest alternative explanation for just about anything in this realm, one that removes all agency from the individual and places you at the mercy of the all-powerful and unfathomable deep-something-or-other.
