This is getting pretty exciting.

I just got back from the protest and I'm happy to report that it keeps growing. I'd estimate that there are approximately 500 people there now, and they're generating LOTS of sympathetic interest from passers by.

I'll be heading back a bit later and will probably be there for the Radiohead appearance, so I'll report on that tonight.

Oh, and I'm meeting up with Luther Blissett tomorrow. If anyone else is going to be participating, we'd love some RI company!

In the meantime, here are a few more cell phone pics (I really need to replace the dead memory card on my real camera...).

It's a packed house!

NYTimes, too, reports no RadioHead. So, did the protest get scammed into making an announcement somehow? Or are they somehow walking back an announcement for fear of too much response? At last night's general assembly, they pre-announced the concert announcement; however, they clearly stated they would only make the announcement in person and not online. Perhaps they violated some terms? It seems a weird emotional play. Or credibility play.

Laura Eldeiry, a spokeswoman for Radiohead, said that the band would not be playing a show at Zuccotti Park on Friday that had been announced by Occupy Wall Street’s organizaers.

“It’s definitely not going to happen,” Ms. Eldeiry said. “It’s a false rumor.” She said that the band had nothing to do with the announcement and a show “was never planned.”

Transport Workers Union just showed up!

They are doing 2nd and 3rd generation human mikes now lol. It's great.

Who They are:

yeah, I think the Radiohead gig was meant to be a secret -show up and play and whatever happens happens. Now that the gig was leaked, I'm sure the city shut it down (need a permit).

On edit:

OWS FB page says approx. 5000 people are there. This weekend should be really exciting!

This is so fucking exciting!

Just got home to walk the dog and feed the dog/cat, but when I left, there were THOUSANDS of people at the protest.

Maybe 4K? It's hard to say when they're as packed in as they are.

Image

Anyway, Radiohead never showed up, but the TWU did, and it was fucking glorious! They marched in, ever so dramatically, blowing whistles and receiving high fives.

I shook this guy's hand.

Vigorously.

Oh, and it's no longer happening in a vacuum.

I noticed one cop with a camcorder. Looks like the cops now actively video the protesters during these types of engagements?

Thank you for the RI report on the streets -and photos!

That seems to be the consensus- 4-5000 people at the moment.

Love the human repeat 'mike' so that other can hear what is said. Great invention to overcome the no bullhorn/mike rule.

This excites me to see. It sucks to be afar! The crowd is huge! I don't know the area of NYPD HQ, but it appears at capacity. The message is tight. The Unions stand tall. The "human mic" has four tiers trailing off into the distance.

Wow. And thank you, thank you NYC RI denizens... the pics and reports are much appreciated!

^^ I have not felt way this was since 1999, and then there was less hope because we knew what we were up against.

On edit: Thanks for the photos Bruce!
