What are your dates, 8-bit? I haven't been to NYC in too long.

Wed 11th through tues the 17th. But it looks like Thursday or Saturday would be best in the evening or night

Depends on your tastes - but on my must do in NYC list is

If you like books - The Strand Bookstore on Broadway & E 12th St. - If you're in from out of town have them ship the books to your home address and avoid the sales tax (same for anything else you buy in NYC)

If you like photography - B&H Photo on 34th St & 9th Ave.

For musicians - The original Sam Ashe on W 48th St.

Don't miss taking a walk through Central Park. Usually the trees are blooming in April, but you might be too late for that this year.

Whatever you do - have a great time.

If you are a reader, and visiting shrines is in your purview, don't miss the Algonquin Hotel, the milieu of Parker, Benchley, etc.

And, yes, I realize it's "just" a table.

And, yes, I realize it's "just" a table.

I haven't been to NYC in ten years. Great town.

The Algonquin is closed for renovations until May, which is unfortunate, because it's a great place to enjoy a well-mixed drink in a quiet, civilized environment.

For live music and hipster watching, I suggest Cake Shop in Manhattan, and Glasslands in Brooklyn.

For great views of lower Manhattan, take the Staten Island ferry back and forth, which will only take you an hour or so, and best of all, it's free!

Saturday the 14th at 7pm works for me. I will probably get there early, to get some games in before hand. Barcade opens at noon on Saturdays.
If anyone else gets there in the afternoon, you'll find me in the back, cursing at the Centipede machine. Or just ask the bartender to point out George for you, they know me.

I waited so many years before someone on the street finally asked me how to get to Carnegie Hall. I'd been disappointed a couple of times by people who asked, "Which way is Carnegie Hall?" or "Where is Carnegie Hall?" You know, even if you're around that area a lot, it's not every day you run into a tourist looking for it. But finally someone phrased the question properly, right across the street from the place, and I was ready to meet the call: "Practice!" Hallelujah!

Fun fact: In the 1970s things with the real estate got so bad that Carnegie Hall actually housed a copy shop on one of the corners for about 10 years. And it was home for a time to the New York Chess Club, where despite being a pathetic unrated I hung out sometimes to play real wargames, like Diplomacy, Third Reich, Kingmaker and Dune. (The upsetting thing about "Third Reich" is that it's more fun to play Germany.)

I notice a lot of bands I been into lately are playing Glasslands before and after I get to New York. But it's all good, Im seein gKraftwerk perform at the Museum of Modern Art Sunday night:)

Gah, you were in New York in the mid to late 70's? Lucky! Ive seen so many documentaries about that time...CBGB's, Talking Heads, Ramones, Blondie, Warhol, William S Burroughs, guerrilla filmmakers, etc. Of course the documentaries also point out the high crime rate, insane amount of delapitation and other issues. Annie Hall and Taxi are up there on my top film lists, something very cool about that whole period. I didn't get to visit New York til 1986, so pre Guiliani thankfully. I remember grafitti absolutely on every square inch of everything, Beastie Boys and Run DMC being played everywhere, etc. Sadly didnt run into Warhol or JM Basquiat:)
