Everything is going down the shitter, head first. WaPost has long had influence of CIA, depending on which desk it comes from. Jones is a crazy barker only fools & schizophrenic would belive. What's mostly missing from this thread is what relation the letter has to Sessions. Everyone everywhere is waiting to pounce depending on the color & strength & quantity of the pill they swallowed. Nothing is about what it claims to be anymore, just bad therapy and wasted intelligence.

Sad!

GOP's silencing of Sen. Elizabeth Warren only raises her profile as the Democratic alternative to Trump
Lisa Mascaro

The winner of CNN's prime-time debate between likely 2020 presidential contenders Sens. Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz was clear: Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The Massachusetts Democrat punctured the political noise in a defining way late Tuesday night when Senate Republicans silenced her reading of Coretta Scott King's years-ago criticisms of Trump's attorney general pick, Sen. Jeff Sessions.

Warren was voted down by Senate Republicans — "The senator will take her seat," said the presiding officer — in a dramatic display of political clumsiness coming amid concerns over Sessions' past views on race and at the start of Black History Month.

The response was swift and unrelenting.

"READ THIS. Tonight the GOP silenced @ SenWarren AND Coretta Scott King. Below is the letter," tweeted actress Kerry Washington to her nearly 4.5 million followers.

Twitter delved into the absurdity of a Senate procedure, Rule XIX, that forbids senators from "impugning" the character of another senator, even if it means calling out allegations of racism in a letter from the widow of the slain civil rights leader.

And then there was the made-for-T-shirts quote from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) as he justified the vote against Warren: "She was warned; she was given an explanation. Nevertheless she persisted."

"Nevertheless she persisted" quickly popped up on mock campaign gear on Twitter.

By midday Wednesday #ShePersisted overcame #LetLizSpeak as a trending hashtag on Twitter.

The outcome produced powerful short-term gains for Democrats who are struggling to channel voter unrest over Trump's agenda into a common cause.

Fundraising was surely robust — "we WILL make our voices heard," Warren dashed off in an appeal to donors.

But in the longer run, it remains unclear whether Warren's voice is the best for the party as it tries to rebuild after the 2016 election that delivered Trump to the White House.

Democrats continue soul-searching over their electoral losses, particularly the drift of formerly Democratic blue-collar voters into Trump's orbit in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

House Democrats were meeting later Wednesday in Baltimore for an annual retreat where that conversation was expected to dominate.

Sanders beat Democratic rival Hillary Clinton during the primaries in some of those states, but it is unclear whether the populist message he — and Warren — deliver can work more broadly with a general election audience.

Other Democrats are trying to rebuild the party in a way that relies on that populist message but without alienating more moderate suburban voters who also moved toward Trump.

At this point, though, Democrats are happy to take their gains when they can, and Warren on Wednesday was making the rounds of media interviews in a victory lap of her moment.

Other senators took turns reading from King's letter on the Senate floor, and none of the Republicans dared rebuke them.

As for Cruz and Sanders, fresh from their CNN debate on Obamacare, they, too, were talking about Warren.

Cruz, the Texas senator who was the last rival to Trump in the 2016 GOP primary, called her attacks on Sessions "slanderous."

"When the left doesn't have any other arguments, they go and just accuse everyone of being a racist," he told Fox News.

And Sanders stood by Warren's side. "It is unconscionable that Sen. Mitch McConnell silenced Sen. Elizabeth Warren because she read a letter from Coretta Scott King," the Vermont independent tweeted.

It's a requirement? His fanboys and worse, those who aren't quite but think he is very important do that in like 60% of all RI threads.

Great way to change the subject to the usual Alt-Right style dumbfuck bilge a la Searcher08. Pocahontas! Ha, ha. (Funny, they're not.)

Most here are avoiding the authoritarian breach of the supposed democratic procedures of an elected legislative body. Does not matter what one thinks of Warren!

Best possible outcome for the GOP in 2020 is being up against Warren. Her record will make mincemeat of her reputation.

A lot can happen in four years. Trump could fuck shit up so bad that by 2020, to paraphrase Tropic Thunder, a nutless monkey could do a better job than Trump. The GOP would be smart to remember the DNC tried to game the system by setting Clinton up with the person they thought would be her weakest opponent. Look how that turned out.

I'm curious about the specifics you're referring to in her record. All I know of her is that she does a good job verbally of standing up to big banks and big bullies. But talk is cheap, I'd like to know where you find her deficient in walking the walk.

Well, two caveats -- personally, I don't have any beef with Warren, aside from what she is. She does indeed do a good job in front of the cameras, and such is her role in the spectacle. I'm not going to campaign for her -- or anyone else in that industry -- but I don't view it as some moral failure on her part, either: she is doing her job.

Second -- there's nothing on her record that would convince you and me she's a bad actor or a sellout or something like that. No smoking guns.

However. Her record is not enough for the progressive crowd ("You oversaw TARP!!!") and too much for the centrist herd, and she doesn't have any bullet-point accomplishments to promote in the finance sector she's made her name policing. (I do not think the CFPB is sufficient, either in the sense of actual impact or media optics.)

Then again, C-SPAN clips of stern speeches did wonders for Bernie....

“This Fight Is Our Fight: The Battle to Save America's Middle Class” will be released on April 18 by Metropolitan Books, the publisher announced earlier Tuesday.

Warren's book will, the publisher promises, tell “the story of how the United States built the greatest middle class in history, and how big corporations and financial institutions then came to overpower the interests of poor, lower-income, and middle-class Americans.”

Warren, who has become one of the leaders of her party's progressive wing, said in the release that the American political system doesn't work for everyday working-class citizens.

The Washington Post has made jumping the shark look respectable.

Jeff Bezos, the owner, with his 600 million dollar deal with the CIA, along with the fact that it is now perfectly legal to propagandize the American public has made the WaPo as credible as Alex Jones. And less entertaining.

Anyone quoting and posting the WaPo might as well be quoting the CIA's office of propaganda.

At the very least, quoting them posting them makes you just another cell in the mainstream media organism so you're really just wasting your time and energy.

Certain people here have gone Pure Establishment.

And we all know what that means.

The Spooky Magic of Nordic's 14000

I was ranting aloud while puttering in my kitchen. As the momentary fit subsided I checked in on RI and went directly to Nordic's cartoon posting. My rant had been:

As slad has requested many times: Please give us the list. Which sources are allowed? Which ones are beyond reproach? Infallible? Absolute Truth, All the Time?

This constant harassment about links to mainstream media only serves to elevate conflict and create a distraction. Everyone here knows you have to take MSM with a grain of salt and read between the lines. Elevating bloggers or anonymous internet posts as inherently more better, more honest, more truthier than known media is illogical.

As for Elizabeth Warren now being the object of hate transferred from the Hillary effigy, funny how you guys never offer a real world alternative. Just smack down the bitch.
