I thought it right away, the red-haired version didn't look anything like the other picture I'd seen, but I didn't have them to directly compare them, and I honestly didn't think anyone would make THAT big and obvious a mistake, so I sorta blew it off. I remembered mainly the eye color and the expression being radically different. And I've seen people who are addicts look very very different when they're using. And the red-haired version is very obviously on some heavy meds of some kind. God only knows what.

But now that someone has put this picture out, I'm like gob-smacking myself for not doing a direct comparison earlier.

I mean, c'mon. It's either a similar but different person OR he got a nose job. So which is it?

well, I really think it could be the same person, he's "making a face" in the personals-site photo, as different a face as he could make without looking totally foolish. adams's apple looks identical in both, the id photo in that comparison appears to have been rotated slightly and cropped.

I actually trust your photo-analysis skillz more than I do my own lying eyes. So I defer to your judgment.

But fwiw, I'd say: same person, significant weight loss. (Plus usual differences due to angle, light, contrast, etc.) Or possibly: Same person with and without baby fat, if the pictures were taken far enough apart for that. A few years can still wreak some pretty big changes in your appearance when you're in your early 20s.

ON EDIT: It's not specific to Nordic (so: sorry, Nordic!) but if it's not okay to say someone in a photograph looks schizophrenic, then this...

And the red-haired version is very obviously on some heavy meds of some kind. God only knows what.

...is not actually obvious. It's very, very possible; quite, quite likely; a reasonable inference; or whatever. But there's no specific, signal feature that says "heavy meds" rather than "speeding his brains out" or "fucking terrified" or "sleep-deprived and dissociative."

FTM, they'd have had a lot more reasons for wanting to avoid medication than not, assuming that he wasn't acting out or getting violent. I don't see why they'd even do it as a precautionary measure wrt suicide, necessarily. I'm sure he's still being guarded and watched round-the-clock, at this point.

That said: I agree. He looks like he's full of one each of every single antipsychotic medication pharma's ever milled out, from Thorazine onward.

The State really needs a false flag right about now? Just to prime the pump or something? I don't think so.

No false flag here. Just a dude who decided to murder some people. Maybe what is confusing people is that in the Facebook age this guy didn't have some sort of fucked up explanation ready to go.

The premise of The Shock Doctrine is that the State is always ready to take advantage of a bad situation.

There's just no getting around that the nose is different. It's conceivable that the faces are of the same person except for the nose. It's quite simply a different nose. Unless he had a nose job.

I believe you.

And actually....Honestly, faith is a miraculous thing. I actually now really do see that you're completely right. I mean, maybe I would have reached the same conclusion at ninetieth glance on my own anyway. To be fair. But who knows? Or cares?

You're right. That's not the same nose. And frankly, it looks like a pretty standard issue nose-job nose. Such as one might see on a lesser Jackson or Gabor.

So. Maybe elective for cosmetic purposes. Maybe he broke his nose. And maybe...he had a deviated septum for some reason unrelated to cocaine usage? That can happen, can't it?

ON EDIT: Accident? Was just driving along, mindng his own business, when a bicyclist or pedestrian hit his front fender? Or vice versa?

it just looks like he's scrunching his nose up to look thinner, whole face is slightly tilted up, his eyebrows are raised and you can see his forehead wrinkled a bit from making the face.

For some reason, the difference is much more apparent if you go from right to left -- ie, mugshot nose to dating-site nose.

I think Nordic's right. They're really not the same.

I don't know, I can see it both ways, I think it's within the range of volitional nose movement that it could be the same, but it sure makes me wonder about what a sham "facial recognition software" almost _must_ be.

Vollitional Nose Movement:

Is it my favorite new band or just the latest short cut to ascendent englightenment?
_____________

Personally, I can't move my nose at will. Also, no. That's not actually an option for me. Because I never smile. Ever.

So. Don't you try it either, if you know what's good for you. That's my advice.

exercising the facial muscles is important

I suspect "volitional nose movements" would be a phish style jam band though

hmm, I wonder why I'm not seeing the smilies in this post? oh well/

anyway, funny, I was going to say I learned trying to do tabatha-style magix as a kid :tongout

@ Laodicean -- What kind of vice turns Matthew McConaughey into Steve Buscemi?

(I have a scary day tomorrow-now-actually-today. Don't mind me.)

@justdrew -- I don't know about that. What if you'd succeeded in living fast, but failed at dying young and were lucky enough to still retain some fant hope of leaving a pretty-ish corpse? Just hypothetically speaking? Mightn't you be better off aiming for kind of a Botox-without-the-Botox type of an affect? I never really thought about it before. But it seems well worth considering.

Watch it, buddy. You almost made me smile.

Plus: No, come on. I mean, who hasn't done that a time or two? I certainly have.

Maybe

Oh my god. It's like all the bad drugs I did in college are coming straight out of this thing's speakers. How come that kind of quasi-synesthaesiac high never happens with your more classically spendy-illicit-substance-associated songs, I wonder?

....

Not quite. But very close. In fact, just a shot remix away, IIRC. Which, of course, I don't. Pretty sure I've heard echoed repetitions of that "I'm on a ride" bouncing from channel to channel like a billiard ball because they were, you know, there to begin with, however. It was the Nile Rodgers remix, I do believe. So. That'd probably do it.

Good night, you guys and gals.
