I don't think he's imperialist at all. I think he was given a ball of yarn and is doing something useful with it. There has never been a democrat I've seen in life outside of Jimmy Carter that I said Jesus, this person is for real (I was only a baby back then). I watched that whole speech and was looking for something, anything that I could possibly disagree with him on. Blip. Ain't no cult of personality, I just agreed 100%. Everything is spot on. I firmly believe he is a good soul which the world desperately needs.

The police estimated total crowd at 48,000. If both this and the inside-the-park number is correct, this means they kept 20,000 people from entering the park. They set up barricades on Broadway two blocks away from Washington Square Park and stopped letting people through by the time the rally started, and double barricades insulating the park with the perimeter streets kept empty. This has become the normal situation for every large public assembly since the late 1990s. To get through I was able to convince a cop I was going to the NYU library (which is where I ended up - outside it). The buffer blocks leading up to the park were empty and could have accommodated people easily. Once I got to WSP South, there were thousands of people outside the park until the rally ended, but there was no trouble hearing the speeches. High enthusiasm, all that. If you've heard the stump speech however, you know what was said (with the addition of the current Verizon strike). Nothing much to report the pictures don't already say. Minor celebrity note, afterward I went through the park and in the press after going through a barricade on the other side didn't notice I almost ran into Rosario Dawson from behind until I heard her voice. If I had said anything, it would have been to keep doing what she's been doing after the votes are done. All that being said, the media and politicians here are all 24/7 Clinton and at best Tuesday will be close.

1) 4B is making a (cogent, valid) point about politics and perception. Zimmerman comes with a lot a lot of baggage, she is a built-in liability.

2) You know who is also fond of boiling things down to "race and ethnicity" ? The Chosen People. And 4B is talking about their perceptions of Sanders, a Jewish candidate. Based on campaign decisions Sanders made.

3) Despite the cosmopolitan diverse pretensions of high modernism, "Reversion to Primary Loyalties" has been the primary story of the post 2000 AD world. If you're sick of hearing that race and ethnicity talk, buckle the fuck up.

Born white ethnic speaking, here: The "primary loyalties" never, ever went away and they never even receded in particular. It's more like so much "secondary" is breaking down, making these look more obvious and handy as one of several dubious strategies for dealng.

Fair enough... That was a flame-y, uncalled for post. I apologize. By way of some explanation, I guess I've just become overly sensitive on the forum to stuff pertaining to race, identity, gender... I feel sometimes there's some fairly regressive stuff going on under the cover of non-mainstream inquiry.

But this was not it, sorry FourthBase.

I did Google the person in question, so I managed to learn something new from all this. It's just sad that in this world of ours someone who honestly takes a righteous stand is indeed a political liability.
