The Cherokee half of my family wishes they thought of building a wall about 500 years ago.

Yeah most of the other half are relatively recent immigrants. Nazis scared them so they came here.

I don't personally care about immigrants as being of particular importance one way or the other. I just know how businesses around here seek to exploit any opportunity to underpay work. My personal experience is that somewhere in the neighborhood of half of the "illegals" don't get paid what is considered base rate for work in this state, and not even close to competitive wage. The majority of this is not on the books in the proper sense, so I find myself wondering how it could be "studied" by academia.

The businesses involved seem to have had no trouble studying it, doing the math so to speak

That's easier. It doesn't involve speculation or collaboration.

I don't get why people online, in alternative media, etc aren't talking about the obvious:
What if there is a 9/11 or Paris type of event during a Trump term...especially with the eclectic mix of hardline anti Muslims, neocon warhawks, and evangelical right wingers
swirling around the shark tank

Perhaps because it's a frightening scenario we don't want to imagine when plenty others are already set to play out?

What if Jesus comes back during the Trump administration?

What's there to wonder?

Islamic State blows up the Eiffel Tower, or Big Ben. Maybe both.

US rounds up all Muslims. Deportation, internment camps.

BLM is declared a terrorist group.

Newt Gingrich heads the new House Un-American Activities Committee.

Have you ever been affiliated with a Marxist or socialist organization?

Bring back the Sedition act.

Who's left to fight the good fight? People like you reading this, and me. So we're in trouble.

Seems obvious to me.
Both his words and manner of speech seemed at first totally unfamiliar to me, and yet somehow they stirred memories - as an actor might be stirred by the forgotten lines of some role he had played far away and long ago.

ISIS are all heading back home to Europe after undergoing the darwinian selection process of their little sojourn out in the desert - things sure are shaping up nicely....

And the UN begging for them not to be routed out of their territory lest there be more attacks on the west makes for terrible optics imo. A glance at de Mistura's bio made my jaw drop. These kinds of messages read like blackmail against our governments at this point: pursue policies that make sense and you'll have to deal with our assets going BOOM!

Can you drop the act already? Just admit that the "racist" thing was standard political smear tactics. Or is that your story and you're sticking to it? In that case it's going to be a long 8 years for you.

No, it wasn't a smear tactic. Among other things (like getting endorsed by the fucking Klan, which should have a been a big hint), wanting to ban all Muslims from the country is blatantly racist. I don't think you personally are a racist, but you voted for one and helped put him in the White house. Hope it was worth it.

Do you understand that it's possible to arrive at the same conclusion from different tracks? Person A wants illegal immigrants deported because they are a flaming racist. Person B wants them deported because they're a drain on public services, undermine our legal immigration system, on principle, whatever. These people want the same thing, but for different reasons. One set of reasons is deplorable, the other isn't. It's like if you voted to re-elect Obama because of the economic recovery, shared social values, etc. etc. But then someone else voted for him because they're on welfare and they know democrats give them more free stuff. Same conclusion, different tracks, one deplorable and one not. Quit assigning deplorable thought processes to people for wanting things that there is a legitimate argument for. Both Left and Right have fringe elements.

You're talking about Latinos, I'm talking about Muslims. The vast majority of illegal immigrants in the US are Christians. Why is no one ranting about banning Christians?
Why again is it not racist to want to ban all Muslims (and yeah, I know Muslim is a religious affiliation, but how many white Muslims are there)?

BTW, if the indigenous descendants decide to take back the country, I'm throwing in with them. I cannot stand the thought of my "assent" through taxation for the heinous shit the corporate government inflicts around the world.

So, to you, there's no non-racist reason a person might be against illegal immigration?

I don't know you tell me.....but what would the reason be for a person to believe a fact that was proven false?

so what would a non racist reason for being against illegal immigration?

You're making my point. You assume anyone opposing illegal immigration must be a racist because you can't imagine any other reason they would oppose it. Do you even believe a nation has the right to determine who does and does not enter into it? Are borders, themselves, racist to you?

Yes. No gods, no masters, no imaginary lines on a map devoid of any inherent meaning.

The civilization that created that superstructure around Tabby's Star, I wonder what their immigration policies are like on their planet. I bet they're pretty strict. I bet they have a lot of borders. Because if there's one thing that's a universal truth, it's lines on a map.
