Sorry, SAF as in the country code for South Africa. I work with country codes all day and use them a lot in casual conversation which always punches me in the dick with inevitable misunderstandings like that.

While I'm not aware of any "SAF" in Fund parlance, you may be thinking of their internal currency, SDRs, Special Drawing Rights.

However, that said, IMF loans are not designed to return all the wealth to the US, but they are designed as if the "offshore finance" system does not exist. A lot of IMF messaging is a kabuki dance around facts they know damn well, such as the fact that their "development" money is getting siphoned off through offshore accounts by the exact same US/UK banks who are initially consulting on the loans. They have a unit called the "Financial Action Task Force" that does nothing but burn out idealists, but ostensibly they're supposed to be focused on such bespoke corruption.

Ohhh, okay. I'd Googled "SAF money" and got IMF stuff about "SAF loans" or something (similar to "ESAFs"?) and I still couldn't say exactly what it is—and that's okay.

I suppose Epstein plugs in to all this somehow. I suggested to someone that Epstein's frequent quick trips to far-flung places hinted at espionage and extortion, but they replied, "Oh, that's just what billionaires do, fly around all the time." I haven't studied the list of cities he drops in on, but I gather it's long and might not point to anything in particular.

Jeffrey Epstein gave dirty money to cops, but also Harvard, Ohio State, science & technology institutions
Accountability time.

To date, Harvard University has acknowledged accepting a total of $6.5 million in donations from Jeffrey Epstein, which it claims has already been spent, and which it does not plan to return.

This is the first of what I expect will be many, many stories about the millions of dollars registered sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein put into science and technology institutions and organizations large and small. Reputational money laundering. It wasn't just Harvard, but yes, it even includes Harvard.

Everyone who took a dime should be held accountable for their actions.

The article in today's Miami Herald first digs in to public records in Palm Beach and the state of Florida that show Epstein “sought to ingratiate himself with local officials.”

Sometime between June 1, 2001, and May 31, 2002, while accusers say he was operating what amounted to a sexual pyramid scheme — luring underage girls to his home then having them recruit other girls — he gave $50,000 to the Palm Beach Police Scholarship Fund, which offers tuition help to the children of law officers. This was followed by an Oct. 16, 2003, donation to the Town of Palm Beach for $36,000.

Finally, Epstein donated $90,000 to the Palm Beach Police Department on Dec. 14, 2004 — just a few months before the initial police investigation into his conduct began.

With Epstein under scrutiny, the $90,000 was held under the pretense of purchasing new equipment. The department reasoned that returning the money might have tipped off Epstein to the fact that he was under scrutiny. The department issued him a $90,000 refund the day he turned himself in at the local jail.

Pretty wild! A lot like Gus Fring in Breaking Bad!

After he pleaded guilty to the radically-reduced charges of soliciting prostitution (sure seems a lot more like a matter of serial child rape and sexual trafficking), Epstein appears to have leveraged all those investments into getting preferential treatment from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office:

He convinced the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office to allow him out on work release — 12 hours a day, six days a week — provided Epstein pay for a deputy to keep an eye on his whereabouts.

His “employer” was the Florida Science Foundation, a charity Epstein created a year before his sentence commenced. The foundation footed the $120,000-plus bill for the deputies.

Again with the science foundation stuff, though.

The theme running through much of the later-day Epstein philanthropy is science and technology, with a particular set of obsessions. The figures he connected with will surely be reported on by various news organizations as the matter unfolds.

So will Epstein's dirty doings with police in Florida.

Last Friday, the Palm Beach Sheriff announced an internal affairs investigation into its handling of the Epstein case, which as we've reported involved Alex Acosta.

Epstein laundered his reputation through donations to higher education entities, including Ohio State University -- which last week said it would take “action as appropriate” on more than $2.5 million Epstein and Epstein-related organizations provided.

In 2007, Epstein gave $47 million to a foundation run by the Ohio-based Wexner family, owners of the lingerie chain Victoria’s Secret. That year, the foundation, along with another foundation created by Epstein, each gave $2.5 million to Ohio State; by way of gratitude for the $5 million, the school named a football complex after Wexner.

Wexner is widely reported to have been a client of Epstein’s. Last week, Wexner told his company’s employees that he was not aware of Epstein’s alleged crimes.

In light of the renewed focus on the allegations against Epstein, the school said it would undertake a “complete review” of Epstein’s history of giving, all the way back to a $1,000 donation to Ohio State in 1990. The school told the Miami Herald it had no further updates.

Only one institution got more dirty Epstein dough than Ohio State.

Harvard University. And every time they've been criticized for it, or there's been someone prominent suggesting they give the funds back or donate them towards sexual abuse survivorship, they say: nope.

Epstein, a college dropout, did not attend Harvard.

Epstein's connection to Harvard is reported to be Alan Dershowitz.

Again, from the Miami Herald:

His relationship with Harvard coincided with a longtime friendship with Alan Dershowitz, the famous attorney and emeritus professor of law.

Public filings from two of Epstein’s charities show that he donated to Harvard regularly from 1998 until 2008, for a total of approximately $2.1 million. Roughly half went directly to the school. Over a quarter went to one of Harvard’s governing boards, the President and Fellows of Harvard College. Epstein’s charities also donated $50,000 to Harvard Hillel.

After his conviction, Epstein donated another $50,000 in 2016 to the Hasty Pudding Institute of 1770, an irreverent Harvard social club and theater troupe. Hasty Pudding lists Jeffrey Epstein as a 2014 donor as well, although public charity filings do not include that donation.

Representatives for the troupe did not respond to a request for comment.

Epstein also continued to meet with Harvard staff even after he was convicted as a sex offender, as first reported by NBC. An online personal calendar from renowned geneticist George Church shows six scheduled meetings with Epstein in 2014.

Most of Epstein’s reputational money laundering donations happened before the 2008 Alex Acosta Florida plea deal -- the one that required Epstein to register as a sex offender. He kept on donating money after that sentence, but less of it.

The creepiest note of all in this new Miami Herald story is how starting in 1998, Epstein donated a total of $260,000 to Ballet Florida, a dance company and school based in his very own West Palm Beach, “with the express purpose that the funds be used on therapeutic massages for the dancers.”
Turn off your adblocker and go read the entire article, it's great work.

Jeffrey Epstein doled out millions to Harvard and others. Is that cash tainted?

This is clearly a man with no conception of tenderness, fatherhood or personal boundaries. A pretty good collection of human ugliness in one person. And of course he is the President of the United States.

Rep. Jim Jordan Is Named in New OSU Sexual Abuse Lawsuit
A new class action lawsuit on behalf of former athletes has named the Ohio congressman for failing to prevent sexual abuse perpetrated by a university doctor

In the two weeks since former Ohio State wrestlers began to make public allegations about being repeatedly molested and assaulted by team doctor Richard Strauss, Congressman Jim Jordan – who spent eight years as an assistant wrestling coach at the school – has repeatedly claimed any suggestion that he was previously aware of the abuse is “fake news.” As I wrote here on Monday, the former wrestlers, who say Jordan knew they were being abused and took no action to stop it, have been slandered repeatedly by the congressman and his reflexive right-wing defenders – including accusations that the former wrestlers are part of either a “deep state” conspiracy or paid for by the Democratic Party to take down the powerful founder of the House Freedom Caucus. President Trump and several members of Congress, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, have leapt to Jordan’s defense, claiming he’s just not the kind of guy who would sit idly by while his wrestlers were preyed upon.

On Tuesday, Jordan’s public-relations crisis became a legal nightmare. Attorneys filed a massive class-action lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Ohio against Ohio State University on behalf of an as-yet-unnamed former OSU wrestler. The law firm Sauder Schelkopf is seeking to represent all the students and athletes “treated” by Strauss in his two decades at the school, from the late ‘70s to the late ‘90s – a number they estimate will amount to “at least 1,500.”

Jordan, the jut-jawed Republican and anti-gay crusader in the House, is singled out in the suit: He’s one of only three former school officials named, including Strauss, though the action is aimed at all the coaches, administrators and others in positions of responsibility at OSU who, it claims, stood by while students and student-athletes were repeatedly “sexually abused, harassed, and molested,” and “forced” to seek treatment from a well-known predator even after they complained. (Strauss was the sole team doctor for the wrestlers; the men say they either had to choose to let injuries go untreated, as the lawsuit says some did, or subject themselves to yet another assault.)

The lead plaintiff, “John Doe,” says he was groped, assaulted and molested at least 20 times. The other wrestlers have told reporters how Strauss allegedly used any excuse to make them expose themselves and grope them, and the lawsuit adds some sickening details:

“On one occasion, Plaintiff suffered a rib injury while wrestling and made an appointment to see Dr. Strauss for treatment. Dr. Strauss instructed Plaintiff to drop his pants so he could examine Plaintiff’s scrotum for a hernia. Plaintiff was young and believed that Dr. Strauss’ actions were medically necessary, but felt violated and helpless.”

The lawsuit alleges, among other things, that Strauss also took photographs of the men he was forcing to disrobe unnecessarily. It describes how he “regularly touched students’ genitals and breast areas, often at the same time, regularly measured students’ scrotums, all for the purpose of his own sexual arousal and gratification, and for no legitimate medical purpose and for no other reason than to satisfy his own sexual desires.” You can read the lawsuit here in its entirety.

So far, as more former wrestlers, including UFC champion Mark Coleman, have stepped out and told their stories, Jordan has wielded his mastery of right-wing media to try and inoculate himself against this career-threatening scandal. The congressman managed to contain the fallout from an eerily similar revelation last November, when one of his longtime Washington aides and protégées, Ohio state Rep. Wesley Goodman, was publicly unmasked as one of the capitol city’s most notorious sexual predators, stalking and abusing at least 30 young conservative men he promised to “mentor.” This was huge news in Ohio, but was buried nationally beneath the daily drumbeat of Trump atrocities.

The Goodman scandal alone could have been enough to force Jordan out of Congress. In April, Elizabeth Esty, a Democratic representative from Connecticut, had to resign because she kept a former chief of staff on her payroll for three months after another former aide accused him of harassment. The well-documented accusations against Goodman are much, much broader. He reportedly harassed or assaulted at least 30 young men. Jordan adamantly denied that he had any knowledge of Goodman’s notorious reputation – just as he’s now claiming, against the word of his ex-wrestlers, that he had no clue that Strauss (who committed suicide in 2005) was groping the athletes.

In recent public comments on the allegations, Jordan appeared to be banking on his former wrestlers’ silence and shame. But if he believed he could humiliate them back into submission, he was sorely mistaken. At least nine have spoken out so far. Dozens more will almost certainly be telling their stories in criminal and civil court along with Strauss’ hundreds of other alleged victims from 13 Ohio State teams. (A separate lawsuit was filed by four former wrestlers on Monday; this one didn’t call out Jordan by name, but he will almost certainly become involved if the case goes forward.)

Back home, where Jordan’s political future will be determined, local media are determined not to let him slide. “No more denials. Jim Jordan must acknowledge what he knew,” the Cleveland Plain Dealer editorialized this past weekend. Jordan has made it clear, though, that the truth will have to be pried out of him. (He says he is cooperating with independent investigators hired by Ohio State, though what he tells them may never become public.) If either or both of these lawsuits lands him in court, it will be.

Editor’s Note: This story has been revised to reflect a pair of corrections. Rep. Jim Jordan is not a member of Republican leadership in the House and the earliest accusations that Wesley Goodman harassed or assaulted young men took place two years after Goodman left Jordan’s office.

I'd love to know what these three talked about (assuming they conversed), and what impression Epstein made on Krauss and Pinker. Is Epstein really all the "scientist" or even the science enthusiast his PR suggests?

Jeffrey Epstein Visited Clinton White House Multiple Times in Early ’90s

A Daily Beast investigation has uncovered ties between Epstein and the Clinton administration that date back to the president’s earliest days in the White House.

Days after Jeffrey Epstein’s arrest on sex-trafficking charges in New York, Bill Clinton distanced himself from the high-flying financier and convicted sex offender. The former president owned up to just six encounters with Epstein, starting in 2002: Four flights on the billionaire’s private jet, a single trip to his Harlem office, and one “brief visit” to his New York apartment, all with staff and security detail in tow.

Now, a Daily Beast investigation has uncovered ties between Epstein and the Clinton administration that date back to the president’s earliest days in the White House, casting doubt on the oft-circulated narrative that the two only began associating after Clinton left office.

As early as 1993, records show, Epstein donated $10,000 to the White House Historical Association and attended a donors’ reception hosted by Bill and Hillary Clinton. Around the same time, according to a source familiar with the connection, Epstein visited presidential aide Mark Middleton several times at The White House. Two years later, businesswoman Lynn Forester de Rothschild wrote a personal letter to Clinton thanking him for their talk about the financier.

“President Clinton knows nothing about the terrible crimes Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty to in Florida some years ago, or those with which he has been recently charged in New York,” Clinton’s spokesperson, Angel Ureña, told The Daily Beast. “Any suggestion to the contrary, is both factually inaccurate and irresponsible.”

Representatives for Epstein, de Rothschild and Middleton did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Dinner At The White House
How Epstein entered Clinton’s orbit remains unclear. When the president released his initial statement on Epstein, he did not explain the multiple other trips he appears to have taken on the financier’s plane—including one flight to Westchester with Epstein, his alleged madam Ghislaine Maxwell, and an “unnamed female.”

Clinton also failed to mention the intimate 1995 fundraising dinner at the Palm Beach home of Revlon mogul Ron Perelman, where Clinton hobnobbed with the likes of Epstein, Don Johnson, and Jimmy Buffett. (Nearby, at Epstein’s own Palm Beach mansion, the money man allegedly abused hundreds of underage girls.)

The two were clearly chummy by the early Clinton Foundation years, as attested to by a 2002 photo of Epstein and Clinton in Brunei that appeared in Vicky Ward’s 2003 profile of the financier. In a 2002 piece for New York magazine about the Africa trip, Clinton praised Epstein as a “highly successful financier and a committed philanthropist.”

Politico recently claimed that Clinton and Epstein connected in the first few years after the president left office. Citing “people who know those involved,” the article pegged Maxwell as the glue connecting the two men, and Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, as the tie between the president and the British socialite. Politico noted that Maxwell had vacationed with the Chelsea in 2009, attended her wedding in 2010, and participated in the Clinton Global Initiative as recently as 2013. (A Clinton spokesperson denied Chelsea and Ghislaine were close.)

Documents in the Clinton Library, however, attest to much earlier links between Maxwell, Epstein, and the Clinton White House.

In late September of 1993, Bill and Hillary Clinton hosted a reception for supporters who had contributed to recent White House renovations. The nearly $400,000 overhaul—which included new gold draperies and a 13-color woven rug for the Oval Office—was funded entirely by donations to the White House Historical Association, a private organization that helps preserve and promote the White House as a historical monument.

The reception took place at the White House residence from 7:30 to 9:30pm, according to a copy of the president’s daily schedule. White House Social Secretary Ann Stock—who appears in Epstein’s little black book of phone numbers—was listed as the point of contact. According to multiple attendees, the evening included an intimate tour of the newly refurbished residence, followed by a receiving line with the President and First Lady. Dessert was served in the East Room, where the couple thanked everyone for attending and announced the Committee for the Preservation of the White House.

Guests for the event, according to the invitation list, included the journalist and philanthropist Barbara Goldsmith, heiress Jane Engelhard, political consultant Cynthia Friedman, and “Mr Jeffrey Epstein and Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell.” Epstein and Maxwell do not appear on the ‘regret list,’ and there is a letter ‘A’ next to both of their names, indicating they planned to attend. A press release from the event, put out by Hillary Clinton’s office, lists Epstein as a White House Historical Association donor.

Attorneys for Epstein did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

A letter from the following month reveals the extent of the financier’s generosity. Bernard R. Meyer, the executive vice president of the White House Historical Association, sent a note to Epstein’s Madison Avenue offices on Oct. 4, thanking him for his $10,000 contribution. The donation, Meyer wrote, would "assist in funding the costs of refurbishing the Oval Office in the West Wing and certain areas of the Executive Residence.”

A carbon copy of Meyer’s letter was also sent to A. Paul Prosperi—a college friend of Bill Clinton’s who visited Epstein frequently when the financier was jailed in 2008. Visitor logs show Prosperi, a Florida-based attorney, visited Epstein at least 20 times during the 13 months he spent in Palm Beach county jail for procuring an underage prostitute. Prosperi also attended the 1995 Perelman fundraiser where both Epstein and Clinton were present.

The White House refused to identify anyone associated with the Historical Association fundraising at the time, but records show Prosperi was intimately involved. The attorney is cc’d on letters to numerous donors, in which Meyer identifies him as the recipient of the contributions. Prosperi even wrote a $10,000 check to the association himself, according to a letter from Hillary Clinton’s personal counsel, Susan Thomases.

Where Are Jeffrey Epstein’s Alleged Accomplices Now?
“I am forwarding the enclosed check in the amount of $10,000 to the White House Historical Association,” Thomases wrote to Meyer in 1993. “I expect to receive additional contributions and will forward them to you.”

Prosperi was convicted of fraud, filing false tax returns and forging securities to hide his multimillion-dollar swindle of a client in 1997. Clinton commuted his sentence in 2001, in one of his last acts as president. The attorney died in 2016.

White House Contacts
Epstein’s name also turns up in connection with another, shadowy figure in the Clinton administration: White House aide Mark E. Middleton. A friend of Clinton’s from Arkansas and an early addition to the president's campaign, he joined the administration in 1993 as a special assistant to Chief of Staff Mack McClarty—another Arkansas insider—and added “Deputy to the Counselor” to his title in 1994.

Over that same time period, a source with knowledge of the situation told The Daily Beast, Middleton met with Epstein in the White House at least three times. It is unclear what they discussed, or for how long. Middleton did not respond to repeated calls and emails for comment, or to a reporter who visited his home in Arkansas.

Middleton and Epstein also appear to have shared a famous friend in common. Donald Trump—who once called Epstein a “terrific guy”—sent Middleton a signed copy of his book, The Art of the Deal, while the lawyer was working in the White House. The inscription read, “To Mark — Best wishes. Your mom is the best.”

Hobnobbing with businessmen like Epstein and Trump was part and parcel of Middleton’s White House job, according to a 1999 report from the House Committee on Government Reform. (“In the course of his duties, Middleton was in contact with many prominent business people and contributors to the President,” the report states.) But it also got the lawyer in trouble with the administration once he left.

According to a 1996 Los Angeles Times article, Middleton maintained a telephone line at the White House for months after he departed, directing callers to the trade company where he started working afterward. (He also allegedly held on to his White House business cards.) That same year, the administration revoked Middleton’s access to the executive mansion without high-level approval, claiming he had abused his access to the White House to impress personal business clients.

Middleton eventually left the trade company to start his own international consulting business, but controversy followed him. In 1999, the House Committee on Government Reform subpoenaed him to testify in hearings about nearly half a million dollars in foreign donations to Clinton’s re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee. The attorney refused to testify, invoking his right against self-incrimination. Several other figures in the scandal were later convicted of campaign finance violations.

'My Fifteen Seconds of Access'
Jeffrey Epstein’s name shows up again in the Clinton Library archives in a letter dated April 27, 1995, from Lynn Forester to “President William T. Clinton.” Forester—known as Lynn Forester de Rothschild after her marriage to Sir Evelyn Robert de Rothschild—served on Clinton’s National Information Infrastructure Advisory Committee and on the president’s Secretary of Energy Advisory Board. She and her husband also spent the first night of their honeymoon in the Lincoln Bedroom by invitation of the Clintons.

In the 1995 letter, Forester de Rothschild writes, “Dear Mr. President: It was a pleasure to see you recently at Senator Kennedy’s house. There was too much to discuss and too little time. Using my fifteen seconds of access to discuss Jeffrey Epstein and currency stabilization, I neglected to talk to you about a topic near and dear to my heart. Namely, affirmative action and the future.” She then goes on to note that she’s sending him a memo on the latter subject, which George Stephanopoulos had asked her to write, and signs off, “Sincerely, Lynn Forester.”

The businesswoman did not respond to a request for comment left with her office.

What exactly Forester de Rothschild discussed with Clinton about Epstein and “currency stabilization” is unknown. In its 2002 profile of Epstein, New York noted that the mysterious money man liked to talk currency trading with his brainy pals—“the euro, the real, the yen.” And in 2003, Vicky Ward reported in Vanity Fair on his self-declared “skill at playing the currency markets ‘with very large sums of money’.” Epstein was also doing business and trading currencies with Deutsche Bank until a few months ago, when the bank ended the relationship.

Alan Dershowitz, Epstein’s onetime lawyer, previously claimed Forester de Rothschild was the first to introduce him to his future client. In a recent interview with New York magazine, Dershowitz recounted that in the summer of 1996, at a party on Martha’s Vineyard for Lord Rothschild, Forester de Rothschild told him, “I have this friend, he really would like to meet you.”

The friend turned out to be Epstein, another Brooklyn guy made big. “He was feisty, he was utterly politically incorrect,” Dershowitz recalled. “He was interesting to be with.”

Dershowitz has also been accused by an alleged victim of molesting her at Epstein’s Palm Beach house and on his private island. He vehemently denies the allegations.

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.

Jeffrey Epstein Found Injured in NYC Jail Cell After Possible Suicide Attempt: Sources

Accused pedophile and wealthy Manhattan financier Jeffrey Epstein was found injured and in a fetal position inside his cell at a New York City jail, according to sources close to the investigation.

Epstein, who is being held in Metropolitan Correctional Center during his trial for conspiracy and sex trafficking, was found semi-conscious with marks on his neck, two sources told News 4. Investigators are trying to piece together exactly what happened.

Two sources tell News 4 that Epstein may have tried to hang himself, while a third source cautioned that the injuries were not serious and questioned if Epstein might be using it as a way to get a transfer.

A fourth source said an assault has not been ruled out, and that another inmate was questioned. The inmate who investigators have talked to in Lower Manhattan facility has been identified as Nicholas Tartaglione, according to two sources. Tartaglione is a former police officer in Westchester County who was arrested in December 2016 and accused of killing four men in an alleged cocaine distribution conspiracy, then burying their bodies in his yard in Otisville in Orange County, according to court records.

Sources told News 4 investigators questioned Tartaglione, and the former cop claimed not to have seen anything and insisted he did not touch Epstein, sources said.

The attorney for Tartaglione denied all the claims that his client attacked the financier, saying his client and Epstein get along well. The attorney added Epstein was seen today and appears to be fine.

"They are in the same unit and doing well," said Bruce Barket, an attorney for Tartaglione. He said any claim that Tartaglione might have assaulted Epstein "is absolutely not true."

Illicit phone found in cell of ex-cop charged in quadruple homicide

WHITE PLAINS — Federal correction officers found an illicit cellular phone in the cell of an ex-cop charged with killing four Middletown men, according to federal court documents.

Nicholas Tartaglione, 51, a former Briarcliff Manor police officer who lived on Old Mountain Road near Otisville, faces 17 federal counts, including four counts of murder in furtherance of a narcotics conspiracy. Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

The charges stem from the April 2016 deaths of Martin Santos-Luna, 41; his nephews Urbano Morales-Santiago, 35, and Miguel Sosa-Luna, 25; and friend Hector Gutierrez, 32. Prosecutors say that Tartaglione believed that Santos-Luna had taken money meant for a large cocaine deal, and that Tartaglione and others lured Santos-Luna to the Likquid Lounge in Chester, where he was killed. Prosecutors say that Sosa-Luna, Morales-Santiago and Gutierrez were innocent bystanders with no knowledge of the drugs, and that they were taken to Tartaglione’s property near Otisville and killed.

According to a letter prosecutors filed on Monday, corrections staff at the New York Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan saw Tartaglione holding a mini cellular phone in his hand on July 3 while in his cell. Tartaglione told staff that his cellmate had tossed the phone to him as the officers approached. Federal prosecutors said they intend to seek a search warrant to examine the phone’s contents, and have the Bureau of Prisons to transfer the phone to FBI custody. They said they need clarification on whether Tartaglione still contests ownership of the mini-phone, which may only be capable of making voice calls.

Tartaglione lawyers Bruce Barket, Aida Leisenring, Anthony Ricco and Bruce Koffsky wrote a letter Friday to federal Judge Kenneth Karas, saying there could be privileged material in communications stored on the phone. They asked the judge to require not just a search warrant, but also to designate a “filter team” or “taint team,” members of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, to isolate potentially privileged information from the trial prosecutors until the judge rules on the issue.

Barket said Monday that the defense team is not conceding that the phone belonged to Tartaglione, but filed the request as a precaution to protect his rights.

Tartaglione’s case was in White Plains federal court on Monday for a conference, unrelated to the phone issue. His next conference is Aug. 21.

Tartaglione’s codefendant, Joseph Biggs, 57, of Spring Valley, faces the same charges, but there has been little public action on his case.
