In case that was too cryptic:

Kanye West and Taylor Swift have the same agent.

It's a psyop. just like K.W.'s "George Bush doesn't care about black people!" rant, just like Bruno/Eminem, Jackson/Timberlake Tittygate, etc.

This one also reeks of sexist and racist overtones. An angry, drugged up black man mugs a defenseless white virgin, robbing her of her phallic power symbol, and her voice. I'm surprised that he didn't say something like, 'You white bitches always be tryin' to rob Kanye of his manhood!!' It's a symbolic rape, just like Tittygate.

I was pretty certain it was staged - but was the Obama-"jackass"-tweet thing part of it, too?

I'm pretty cynical, but ... have to assume that wasn't orchestrated.

This could hardly be more obvious. Note also:

Kanye West Taylor Swift Controversy Staged

Was Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMAs staged?

It turns out both artists have the same agent, David Wirtschafter. Not only that but David Wirtschafter is also 50 Cents agent.

If you remember, a year ago there was a beef between 50 Cent and Kanye West right before their albums dropped. 50 Cent said he would retire if Kanye sold more albums then him because Kanye’s music is garbage. Later both artists admitted the “beef” was staged to promote their album releases.

So Kanye and Wirtschafter have faked a controversy in the past to help promote another artist who he represents. Also isn’t it a little suspicious that Kanye was flaunting that Hennessey bottle all night to show that he was getting drunk?

Celebrities are a big business people. Almost everything is controlled. There is just too much money involved.

As for the racially charged aspect, exploiting it would be an obvious part of the appeal to the cynical minds who would cook up and do this crap. Their internal defense, if they even feel the need for one, might run something like this: The media no matter what are going to invent a not-so-subtly (plausibly deniable) racist narrative about black people run amok about once a week. So why not hitch a ride by providing this week's material?

More capitalist "who dares wins" thinking at work. If I can think up a bold exploitative move, I'm a loser unless I actually do it! And if I do, I'm a marketing genius.

One caveat to the slam-dunk case: WMA/Endeavor represents a humonguous proportion of these ET celeb beasts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Morris_Endeavor

On April 27, 2009 William Morris Agency announced its merger with Endeavor Talent Agency.</ref>[3]

Since the merger, it has widely seen as a "take-over" by Ari Emanuel and his partners at Endeavor. (http://www.laweekly.com/2009-05-28/news ... -a-merger/) Over the course of the merger, many William Morris employees and former board members were let go - nearly 100 in all following the official announcement of the merger. The most widely affected has been the Corporate Consulting department, primarily consisting of WMA agents. The former head of the department, John Mass, gone. Co-Head Johnny Levin - gone. Co-Head Paul Bricault, let go as of 9/14/09. The new William Morris Endeavor had a 9 person board - 5 from William Morris, 4 from Endeavor. Co-CEOs are Ari Emanuel, Patrick Whitesell (formerly of Endeavor) and David Wirtschafter (formerly of WMA). Many significant announcements have been made, signed only "AE PW" signifying that this is Ari and Patrick's company, and Dave Wirtschafter has very little say in the future of this company. Many industry insiders say "stay tuned" at there is LOTS more to come.

Then again, for those who want to take this almost open-and-shut prima facie case of commercial PR manipulation and promote it into a Mockingbird psyop narrative, there you are: Ari is Rahm's brother. Obviously the two of them came up with the jackass thing.

Except that ever since President Obama's largely successful speech to Congress last week, the message from Drudge and from the conservative echo-chorus that is conducted daily by Rush Limbaugh has become increasingly less subliminal and more shrill, and their toxic tone is one that should alarm all Americans. It can be summed up: "Black people are running amok in Obama's America - emboldened by an African-American in the White House, they are now here to beat up white folks, cheat them out of their hard-earned money, and impose 'black nationalism'! White people need to be very afraid."

So after reading that from the good Mr. Bunch, I visited drudgereport.com for the first time in ages and ages, expecting immediate confirmation.

No disappointment there - just an amazingly blatant psyop.

Well just look at the comments on the West-Swift VMA youtube videos that have 100,000-3 million views, ultra hardcore racist comments.

There is a VERY distinct air of boiling hatred that is no longer hidden anymore by the right wing these days. Rush Limbaugh called for a return to segregated buses and asked "whats wrong with racism?" comparing it "to how the liberals claim homosexuals are born that way".

Hugh and others are absolutely right, planned or not(clearly Swift wasnt in on it either way) this definitely plays into the "black thug male
muscles over innocent young white pretty virgin belle" meme.

While we on the iGeneration online world might get a kick out of the endless comedy meme this provides, Hugh is dead on about the much more sinister fabric this slides into.

The riled up racist right wing in America is fired up, and *someone* or something is stoking the fire to the umpteenth degree...I fear where this uglyness is eventually going to lead.

which only goes to show: just because you can detect the meme working, doesn't mean you're entirely insulated from it.

Well personally I like Kanye West. Not really familiar with his music, but I usually get a positive vibe from him whenever I hear him speak. That Katrina off script moment for the telethon to me was classic.

Hugh who?

I object to getting second billing to a guy who didn't even make an appearance in this thread.

My agent is gonna hear about this.

P.S. I don't have an agent, I'm with William Morris. Ba dum bum!

USA Today (CIA) put the picture of the eeee-vil Negro dominating Little Bo Peep on the front page above the fold to hype the anti-people-of-color meme that is lighting burning crosses across Fox TV Land.

I just got off the horn with a music biz mentor of mine who asked how hip hop kids are reacting to the Kanye thing...she was curious about how Taylor's music had been received by kids just checking her out...and she gave me a wee chunk of info that would probably help you guys make a better "conspiracy" case.

His name is David Wirtschafter. He's Kanye's agent. He's also 50 Cent's agent and he's the guy who orchestrated their fake but highly publicized "beef" with the goal of increasing album sales for both....

....he's also currently the agent for a very popular female country artist.

Smells like a gun, smoking, to me. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

But I don't think that you were. The imaging, branding, and promotion part of the enterprise aren't any part of the brief of your guy at William Morris if you're Kanye West. (Or Taylor Swift, or Fitty.) I mean, in the overall business affairs of an artist who generates the kind of revenue that Kanye does, "agent" is a pretty high-status position, for sure. But it would be very atypical for a person in that slot to play much of a part on the creative/personal side of the operation. (For a recording artist. For a high-dollar, high-maintenance actor, or director, or writer, or whatever, an agent might or might not be a part of the personal-managerial/svengali/hand-holding team. But even then, they're not usually, like, on the entourage or daily-personal-contact roster.) And for hip-hop artists especially, it's almost out of the question. Agents have jobs, in offices. They can't spend all night drinking Cristal and sparkin' L's in recording studios and nightclubs.

In fact, having lived with the proposition for a few days, I'm upgrading my "I'd be kind of surprised if it was staged" to "I'd be shocked if it was staged." It just makes no sense as a planned publicity stunt in which Kanye was complicit at all, that I can see. I mean, cui bono? Not him, that's for sure.

Furthermore, he doesn't really even need VMA-level publicity to begin with. (In objective terms. Although subjectively speaking, if there's ever been any indication that he's thought of doing any level of unpaid media publicity as anything other than a favor he might occasionally condescend to bestow on some lucky, lucky print, radio or broadcast outlet at any point subsequent to whenever it was that whichever single off The College Dropout gave him his second or possibly third consecutive top twenty hit. It just strikes me as so overwhelmingly much more likely, as well as much more in keeping with the facts in evidence that his handlers would have seen the entirety of their mandate as simply cajoling him into making the commitment in the first place and then -- very important -- seeing to it that he actually kept it than that they were busily burning up their cell minutes coordinating a misbegotten promotional stunt that I'm not sure I even understand the logic underlying the consensus here that it was one.

How do you guys figure? Plus how do you account for the next-day public shaming and mortification with Leno? Would that have been part of it from the get, or damage control when the staged stunt didn't go as planned, or what?

I just don't get it.
