The Tennessee Valley Authority has shut down its undamaged Browns Ferry nuclear power plant in northern Alabama, cooling its reactors after power transmission lines into the plant were knocked out by severe storms in the state.

Preston D. Swafford, TVA's chief nuclear officer said on a March 26 tour of that plant that Browns Ferry was ready for "a one-in-a-million-year flood, or however many zeroes you want to go out," according to the New York Times.

N.O. well prepared for high water levels but other areas concerned

Paul Murphy / Eyewitness News

NEW ORLEANS - There is now a sense of urgency on the New Orleans riverfront.

The Mississippi is rising and agencies in charge of maintaining vital levees are preparing to fight a flood that has already wreaked havoc in the midwest.
Spring is usually the high water season in the south.
But, it's been nearly 40 years since the waterway that drains 41 percent of America has flowed this fast and risen to the heights we're now seeing up river.
"It's a very, very, very high alert status," said John Barry who sits on the state board in charge of flood protection in the New Orleans area.
Barry says because of the nearby spillways that divert water from the Mississippi and the solid construction of area levees and seawalls, the metro area is prepared for a flood fight.
"This is the safest spot in the entire river because there are all those floodways that take water out of the river, both above the city and even Bohemia below the city. That limits the amount of water that goes by here."
But, he says that doesn't mean the flood protection authority is taking anything for granted.
"If there is a breach on the main Mississippi River levee, you cannot close that breach and that water is going to continue to flow for weeks," said Barry.
St. Bernard President Craig Taffaro says similar to a hurricane watch, he wants folks in his parish south of the city to pay attention to the rising tide and be ready to react if needed.
"We're not expecting the crest until later this month, around the 22nd of May and so we have a little time to watch and really evaluate what's happening upriver and how that will effect us here in St. Bernard or beyond," said Tafarro.
Levee inspectors identified a low spot on a section not far from the Chalmette ferry.
Crews are expected begin building a berm for added protection against potential flooding there first thing Saturday morning.
"Just as a precautionary measure," said Tafarro. "We don't want it to be interpreted as there is imminent danger or the parish is in some great peril at this time. we're going to watch that."
Local officials are taking the position that it is better to prepare for what may come, than to be in a crisis mode about two weeks from now when the river is cresting.
If you notice levees leaking or other problems with local flood control structures you are urged to call the flood protection authorities.

Slight escalation of attention by local media, but they assure us that our leaders and officials have things well in hand.

too many beers. edit...

TPTB hunt "birds", a well known fact, and term for sheeples that they use. I could say more but don't think I could verbalize it just now.

Maybe that ^^^ but mainly the bird headed God thing. The Egyptian pictures of the bird headed God stuff.

And it all started at Cairo...

Cairo is at the top of the rivers near the goat horned confluence of the rivers. It all started there when they blew the levee at Bird's Point. Nile flood reference thingy.

And CNN said this was very similar to what happened in Pakistan last year...I swear they did.

They compared it to a flood that happened in Pakistan at this time last year.

And then when you add the rest of what I wrote in the post above it starts to become a good little bit of symbolism most likely.

I hope i'm wrong but my gut is telling me that this situation may be long and drawn out and possibly really really ugly before it is all said and done.

Coincidence? Prolly not.

This is just below Cairo where Birds Point Levee was blown.

http://3planeta.com/googlemaps/google-maps.html

Enter Birds Point Missouri in the search box. When it finds it click magnification one click and zoom in one click.

Just to the left of the balloon that signifies Birds Point you will see a pyramid with the point downwards. K Street forms the Pyramid. Inside the pyramid a one eyed Owl.

Just to the right of the balloon you will see a pyramid pointing downwards with the the following image in it.
The Sun between the pillars with water running through it. Obama happens to be in this pic too but concentrate on the image on the left. It looks just like what you will see to the right of Birds Point. The image is from the blog stephen morgan referenced in the obama osama twin death thread but this image exists in many places in many ways. http://aferrismoon.blogspot.com/2011/05/sin-bin.html

Image

If you zoom out a couple of clicks you will see Cairo just above it. This whole situation is steeped in symbolism that I have noticed.

People around the nation have been reporting loud roaring sounds and ground shakings. Official sources dunno what it could be. I saw reports of this sort of activity start showing up about a month ago.

According to this news reporter he has been told it "could be a moon phase allowing the waves to hit land harder than normal". mmmmm....

I actually saw this happening on the radar when it happened. There was a HUGE ring on the radar emitting from this area. At the time I didn't know people were hearing weird shit and that the ground was shaking. I saw the ring on the radar though. It was huge. As much of this sort of weirdness as I see I am now convinced that these lunatics have gotten their hands on some technology that no human should have access to. There is a video some place on the internet of a couple and their children who recorded the noise. It is loud and sounds like it comes from everywhere but no place in particular. Sounds like a hissing roaring sound mixed with a rumble.

In this next video you can see the new beam phenom that has been showing up these days. Beam is on the left.

Don't know if its quake related like the vid implies but it is a good pic of rings. And Canada has been having some flooding too haven't they?

now what's weird with this one is a) the pics, which are full of military equipment in a civilian emergency and b) the fact that this comes days after Quebec said F-U to the Harper con govt and if you think that's overreading, take a look at the comments, which are basically unprintable. Anyway:

More soldiers join Quebec flood relief mission
CBC News Posted: May 7, 2011 2:58 PM ET

Another 100 soldiers went to work Saturday to help victims of a massive flood south of Montreal.

A total of about 800 soldiers are now on the ground in the Monteregie region, placing sandbags in swamped areas and transporting people from their homes or rescuing the stranded, using inflatable boats.

Floodwaters along the Richelieu River dropped slightly overnight but there are still about 3,000 homes and businesses swamped and about 1,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.

Water levels have dropped about four centimetres, CBC's Catherine Cullen reported.
Residents make their way through flooded streets along the Richelieu River in Saint-Blaise, Que. (Ryan Remiorz/Canadian Press)

CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland said cloud cover in the region was dissipating and a high-pressure system was settling in from the west. Clear skies are in the forecast for the next few days, he said.

Melting snow and days of heavy rains forced the Richelieu River to spill its banks earlier in the week, flooding hundreds of farms and about 20 municipalities.

In St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Cullen came across three women in a canoe who were heading to one of their homes to get a few belongings.

"She says her house is total loss. She was just hoping to collect some clothing," Cullen said. "She also had a couple of cats that she had to leave behind. She said she's been crying for days, that this is just absolutely devastating."

"I met another man who says there's is not so much damage to his house," Cullen said. "He considers himself one of the lucky ones, but he still says this has been absolute hell for him, that he has been fighting against the water and that you never know when your power is going to give out, when will the pumps stop working. He said it's been very stressful."

The Quebec division of the Canadian Red Cross on Saturday launched a dedicated fund to help those affected by the flooding.

Director General Michel Léveillé said the organization is "confident that Canadians will be generous in the face of this very urgent situation.”

"As soon as the water level fades out, we will realize that for some families, they will lose everything," he told CBC news.

Corps opens gates at Bonnet Carre spillway
The rising Mississippi River has prompted the Army Corps of Engineers to begin opening floodgates at a spillway upriver from New Orleans.

Michael Kunzelman / The Associated Press

NORCO, La. (AP) -- The Army Corps of Engineers has begun opening the first floodgates at the Bonnet Carre spillway upriver from New Orleans.

Shortly after 8 a.m. CDT, workers pulled restraining devices off the first of 28 gates that will be opened. The structure has 350 gates and the corps has said it will monitor Mississippi River levels before deciding whether more will be opened.

Fresh water from the river will be diverted into Lake Pontchartrain and from there into the Gulf of Mexico.

The corps also has asked the Mississippi River Commission for permission to open the Morganza spillway north of Baton Rouge.

State officials started moving some prisoners from the Angola state penitentiary in West Feliciana Parish, north of Baton Rouge, as backwaters rise.

Eight buses and several vans as well as police escorts moved inmates Monday with medical problems from the prison. A trailer carrying livestock left the facility which includes a farm in its operations. The 18,000-acre prison holds more 5,000 inmates. Angola is bordered on three sides by the Mississippi River.

Col. Ed Fleming, commander of the corps' New Orleans district, says officials will monitor the rate of flow before deciding whether to open more bays at the Bonnet Carre spillway, which is about 30 miles northwest of New Orleans.

The more than Bonnet Carre spillway runs about 5.7 miles from the structure at the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain.

The Morganza spillway structure has 125 gates and is about 20 miles long and 5 miles wide.

Officials project the Bonnet Carre spillway could be open for 2-4 weeks. It's unclear when Morganza might be opened.

Flood Waters in Pointe Coupee
On our way back to NOLA on Sunday, May 8, 2011--Roland Mullin and Betsy Stoner stopped along the Old River in Pointe Coupee to find this scene. We wanted to see for ourselves just how much water can fall and accumulate into a river basin. Amazing!

Map of Mississippi River flooding estimate for Louisiana released

Image

The Army Corps of Engineers has released a map showing their latest estimate of the inudation which can be expected in Louisiana along the Mississippi River and Atchafalaya River basins if the Morganza Spillway is opened. The estimate on the map is based on the assumption that the Bonnet Carre spillway would be opened at 100 percent of capacity and the Morganza Spillway flow would be at 50 percent of capacity.
A disclaimer on the map says it is based on the best information available when it was made May 6. The flood limits shown should only be used as a guideline for emergency planning and actual areas inundated will depend upon specific conditions when the flooding occurs and may differ from the map.

going to Slidell to find my joy

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.

The reason I started this thread so early is because I think there is a possibility that this flooding could be more than seen in a long time. I did the quick math, (and not much of it), and it appeared to me that this could be serious before it is over. One reason I believe it could be bad is because there is more snow and ice up north than normal and also more rain down south than normal. With the two combined this might get really bad and last a long time. The snow and ice up north is melting and draining south. Potentially a "perfect storm". Added rainfall could worsen and prolong it as well if more rainfall is to come. Most of the northern U.S. drains into this basin, not to mention the larger than average water in Canada right now that could also drain south. The Mississippi drains very very slowly which means this will last for a while and any added water will add to the flood time.

The main thing that alerted me to it was the media silence. Hydrologists from the National Weather Service said they believed this to be a 500 year event. If it is a 500 year event, considering the CNN/Fox silence, it would signal a LIHOP at the very least so that disaster capitalism could benefit. Even if only a 100 year flood, as some have said it may be initially, the media silence still signals LIHOP damage for benefit of those ready to take advantage of "serving" those in need. There was ample evidence that this was not a 100 year flood from the beginning. Historical levels have already been exceeded that were recorded in the 1937 flood. Considering the technology we have this has been known for weeks and the silence signals a lot...No preparation for the flood victims signals "need in a hurry" which costs money...money...money...Also it provides land grab opportunity as was done in Katrina.

Anderson Cooper also said "this is like the flood in Pakistan last year" in a brief mention and that was a week ago. If they know that you would think they would be blowing the horn loud and clear to warn people. No horn blowing....Pakistan is in the news right now. I think this is a twin.

And to add...

Considering that time's mirror is asymmetrical and events do not correlate in antipodes directly correlated with same time frames and locations this may not seem like a twin but I think it probably is based on archetypal gleanings. What might throw it off is the possibility of being manmade and or assisted which makes it hard to correlate. Maybe not, maybe someone that knows more about this could clarify. I have seen several big weather honchos say basically "rash weather is the new normal"...for what that is worth. If rash because of MIHOP that will throw off the antipodal mirrored time event sequence and make the offset hard to determine. The series of sevens may no longer be intact.

Well, local coverage has ramped up considerably in the last two days. The Memphis flooding is making the news. There were 100's of people out watching the spillway open. I will agree that this should have been prepared for weeks ago. I mean, they had to blow up the levee upriver. The Mississippi river no less. You'd think that would get someone's attention. But really, I say this is just SOP these days. We're pretty much on our own. In Louisiana, the flood path is in mostly rural areas, but a few towns look to be in trouble. Lots of farmland will be affected. I don't really see that much of a profit motive to preplan this. It's mostly rural areas (down here at least). I say its just typical national neglect of infrastructure, monitoring and maintenance. We're on a budget, you know.

The entire world has had floods in the last 12 months. Since sept we have had less than a month of sunshine, and metres of rain, two floods here, brisbane flooded, flash floods in places there shouldn't be flash floods (ie Toowoomba which nearly got wiped off the map.) We were cut off from most places for 3 weeks after Christmas.

Have not checked this whole site out but the initial reading was interesting. Makes me wonder if this is why they treated New Orleans like a step dog during the Katrina hurricane? Maybe the big money thinks New Orleans time is done as the big port city of the country because it is sinking? When Texas got hit the PTB was johnny on the spot. But it could also be racial too, or both.
