it's one of those things. Someone was bound to write that up. Knew it would be autotuned the second I saw it. Thought it would have been done better. lots of white hicks have been autotuned too. His own comments at the end I found uncomfortably racist actually, but not really. Just a joke really, with some basis in some realities. whatever.

I believe it, but I really don't believe this shit for one second -- as far as narrative with particulars and socially. I'm not even talking about some political motive. I am talking about mass psychological motive. I happen to be interested in the names Berry, DeJesus, Knight and Castro and how they intertwine.

I am not undermining the reality of this, but how it went on for so long and the various players in the drama which continues to unfold and the weird psychic connection.

When I heard the news of the rescue of Knight, Berry, and DeJesus in Cleveland, followed by news of Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill going to prison, I immediately thought of the three-named "coincidence" mentioned in Magnolia.

In the opening narration of the film Magnolia, we find these words:
In the New York Herald, November 26, year 1911, there is an account of the hanging of three men. They died for the murder of Sir Edmund William Godfrey; Husband, Father, Pharmacist and all around gentle-man resident of: Greenberry Hill, London. He was murdered by three vagrants whose motive was simple robbery. They were identified as: Joseph Green, Stanley Berry, and Daniel Hill. Green, Berry, Hill. And I would like to think this was only a matter of chance. ~ Magnolia, 1999.
Of course, Magnolia is a fiction film, and takes some license with the story of Greenberry Hill and Green, Berry, and Hill. But the basics are there, and they make for an intriguing story.

The Associated Press reports Mr Ramsey's rap sheet is dotted with incidences of domestic violence, including:

A charge in 1998 and a six-month jail term;
A five-year probation term and orders to join counselling;
A divorce in 2003 after "battering his wife" and an eight-month jail term.

Mr Ramsey's followers have latched on to his colourful interviews and memorable quotes, like calling Castro "a good dude", with whom he shared barbecues, and telling reporters that Berry, a "pretty white girl", running towards him, a "black man", was a "deeeeeead giveaway" that something wrong.

Meanwhile another neighbour, Angel Cordero, claims Mr Ramsey doesn't deserve all the credit for Amanda Berry, because: "I helped her first".

"Ramsey arrived after she was outside with the girl," he told a local Cleveland TV network, NewsChannel 5.

"But the truth who arrived there, who crossed the street, who came and broke the door, it was me."

And that now-famous 911 call Amanda Berry made? A third neighbour, Wintel Tejeda, claims that Ms Berry was in his house at the time.

That depends on whether or not you keep doing it. We live in a culture heavily influenced by the Christian idea of forgiveness, and hold that rehabilitation is possible ... well wait a minute, I live in a culture like that we have no death penalty, no 3 strike laws and a life sentence usually means 25 years, so i live in a culture that recognises the potential for rehabilitation. i dunno if the US has the same attitudes.

But anyway, if someone stops being violent, especially if their domestic violence was associated with drugs or alcohol and they stop the drugs/booze as well, then of course they should be treated fairly, and not "forever exiled". people who commit crimes involving domestic violence regularly over a long period of time without showing any remorse or attempts to stop their violent behaviour obviously should be somethinged, whether it be exiled, locked up or whatever. If the violence is a symptom of PTSD then that is another issue I spose but it doesn't make it alright.

Whatever Ramsey did in the past it doesn't compare with the violence Ariel Castro is alleged to have visited on the people this thread is named after.

What comedy has been written about eye-witness reports and survivors of 9/11? It would have been written whether or not there was youtube. (There was an auto-tune back then but it was expensive.)

This is a horrible and unbelievable story, except it starts with a rescue, not an attack. Of course someone's going to search for comic relief, because it's a very normal and human coping mechanism.

What harm is being done? Are the viral videos humanizing and celebratory, or humiliating? Is the rescue being diminished? Are black men more or less scary? Are we more or less likely to respond to calls for help from a neighbor's house?

A note reportedly found inside Ariel Castro's Cleveland home in 2004 includes a chilling admission: "I am a sexual predator. I need help."

The letter, believed to have been written by Castro in 2004, was obtained by Scott Taylor, an investigative reporter for Cleveland's 19 Action News.

Castro, 52, was charged on Wednesday with four counts of kidnapping and the rape of three women—Amanda Berry, 27, Gina DeJesus, 23, and Michelle Knight, 32—whom he is suspected of holding captive in his home for close to a decade. Berry gave birth to a child, who also is believed to have been held captive in the home. Police say the women were restrained with ropes and chains and were repeatedly raped.

Taylor posted excerpts from the letter on his Twitter feed.

"They are here against their will because they made a mistake of getting in a car with a total stranger," Castro wrote, according to Taylor. "I don't know why I kept looking for another. I already had 2 in my possession."

According to Taylor, Castro also "writes about wanting to kill himself and 'give all the money I saved to my victims.'"

And, Castro writes, he was surprised to learn how young DeJesus was because "he thought she was a lot older."


Deputy Police Chief Ed Tomba told reporters on Wednesday that the women, as well as Castro, have given lengthy statements to police.

During their captivity, the women had been let outside twice to walk from the Castro house to the garage in the rear of the house. The women were forced to wear disguises on those occasions, he said.

City Councilman Brian Cummins, who was briefed by police on the investigation, told the Associated Press that the three women were subjected to prolonged sexual and psychological abuse. He said the women suffered multiple miscarriages while in captivity.

Castro appeared in Cleveland Municipal Court on Thursday morning for an initial hearing.

For years, Castro's neighbors on Seymour Avenue saw him as a friendly but private person, an accomplished musician who played bass in Latin bands such as Borin Plena and Grupo Fuego. One childhood friend said a music session with Castro, who was born in Puerto Rico, suddenly turned bizarre.

"Ariel was in my garage probably five or six years ago. We were recording a song, an idea we had - a little hard rock with some Latin," said Joe Popow, 45, a father of six who said he has known the Castro brothers since childhood.

"And - you're going to laugh - he said he was in the CIA. And I don't know if he was joking or not, but it's the way he said it, how serious he said it. I didn't know what he was capable of. That just put me on defense, and I just started stepping away," Popow said.

A Cleveland man allegedly confessed years ago in writing to taking the three women he's accused of raping and holding captive and said that he was abused as a child and raped by an uncle, CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton reports.

According to a law enforcement source, Ariel Castro apparently contemplated committing suicide in the lengthy, handwritten note discovered in his house from which the women - Amanda Berry, 27, Gina DeJesus, 23, and Michelle Knight, 32 - escaped Monday.

According to the source, Castro wrote about his whole life, saying that he was abused by his parents as a child and that he was raped by an uncle.

Castro also provided details about taking each of his alleged victims, who went missing in their teens and early 20s. The note was discovered by FBI agents searching his house this week.

Investigators inferred from the 2004-dated note that Castro was going to commit suicide. He asked in the note that all of his money be provided to each of his victims.

Yes, but my issue is that 24 hours after this story unfolds the dominating take on it from millions on facebook and online is an autotune/selected clip meme of Ramsey speaking.
Not holy shit, two children and a woman had been kidnapped then beaten/raped/kept shackled/starved for 13 years and forced to abort forced pregancies. I mean some true horror movie stuff.
I love what Ive seen of Charles Ramsey. I agree with you 100% of that. He literally was a guy who thought it was crazy not to do the right thing, and wants no money for all of it. But I dont see people autotuning and making meme viral youtube jokes of Boston bombing witnesses and heroes.
