The CIA's roster of judges is key to understanding the US injustice system.

A belated rbay .. Hugh. BTW if you're so inclined feel free to post again at the BlackOpForum...

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Clearly, it not only foreclosed but catalyzed a lot to have him, and even more so to not have him any more. RIP, I mean it, and also: Stay dead.

The Star Wars names are an old one, by the way, long preceding Hugh's observations. And obviously intended. Dark Father, Hand Solo the masturbator, Yoga, Obi One Can, Palpatate, why not Chew Tobacco? I'll give him that. More important is I read somewhere that the main thing was the wookie, an avatar for the reintegrated hippie culture, was reduced to less than a sidekick. He couldn't even talk.

I like Tom Engelhardt's treatment better.

Two points for contrarianism, but somehow I doubt you're proposing that Darth Vader was a psy-op to support the Dutch patriarchy, that Han Solo was a Comintern plot to weaken our youth, or that Yoda was sponsored by SRI...

BTW, I really can't makes heads or tails of "it not only foreclosed but catalyzed a lot to have him, and even more so to not have him any more."

I never called HMW a shill. It's a funny idea though. I remember his post about Vulcan, Don Knotts, et al. That was a good one! I wasn't around when he became the bully you all speak of. I just remember the early days when he was always writing some off the wall hypothesis, yet he was disdainful of so-called 'WOO." What a guy!

The board is whittled down to a shadow of its once large membership and activity, and here is a 4 page thread about HMW. People enjoy fictional intrigue far more than they do difficult information. Hugh was a great conspiracy artist, but an impediment to real action.

I am actually missing others whose absence has gone mostly unnoticed at this point. They've more recently departed, through attrition by exhaustion, I presume, the endless interpersonal bickering, persecution complexes, the perceptual stench of certain "isms" if only through their perpetual discussion, pages and pages of increasingly outlandish and harmful speculation about current events, real danger, and perhaps a touch of over familiarity.

The slow decline of the community began soon after its apex, but I think the thread on spiritual beliefs in 2010, I can't remember its title atm, quickened the pace, and then other contentious subjects followed, until the mystery and purpose were quite worn out. Such is how things go in life I suppose.

A toast to you, my recently withdrawn friends. I miss your hearts and voices.

Presumably the rebuke about fictional intrigue is meant with irony, considering the exchange with mulebone in the BB thread.

The dwindling of the board is something many have surely considered, and somehow fitting in an HMW retrospective. As a longtime lurker, my sense is that fascism fatigue may be playing as much of a role as personal acrimony and burnout. Yesterday's conspiracy theories are now open fact, Obama is indistinguishable from Bush, 9/11 truth went nowhere, every single news story is obviously twisted to somebody's agenda, even Allen Dulles' version of JFK seems to be going down in the history books. What's left but watching the oligarchs tighten their grip and hoping for the whole shithouse to fall apart? I'm sure the googlebot has already added that last sentence to my permanent record.

RI has always been a little bit of a clubhouse (10,000 posts or GTFO) so I'm not surprised to see a focus on the beautiful ones who've been left behind, but I, for one, have lost a lot of interest in the specifics of CIA ops, the mechanics of bankster fuckery, or understanding who's profiting from today's geopolitical posturing. Assume the worst and you no longer need the details. Everything I learn is worse than the last, and only alienates me further from the people I have to interact with every day, including my friends and family.

So what's left to post about? Not much, especially when most topics have already been covered if not exhaustively, then at least ad nauseum.

Just wanted to get that off my chest, since your post assumes an irrevocable "slow decline" but gives no consideration to renewal or why so few new posters arise to replace the fallen.

Joao - I agree with you - That was brilliant. You should have stopped lurking long ago. I don't know about RI being a clubhouse and don't understand what you mean by 10,000 posts or GTFO.

But why spend time trying to figure out who shot who in the Embarcadero August 1879, when we should just try to have a few laughs at the end of the world? Fukushima's going to kill us all. I don't see anyone here talking about that much.

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.

Well then I'm embarrassed.

I meant he provided stuff for discussion (catalyzed), but he also foreclosed on discussions with his frequent bullying and flooding and derailing. There was a lot of the latter, and it eventually made the board impossible with him. Like a poison pill to the new reader in every thread.

Col., the clubhouse comment was just my pouty cheapshot, since PW's post made me feel like new members are inconsequential. In the light of the morning, I'm sure it was hardly meant that way. More power to the megaposters, from whom I've learned a lot; it can just be tough to come up with angles that haven't been covered 10x already. Thanks for the callout--it energized me to flirt and make jokes with my wife as we got ready for work this morning. And cheers, JR, for the clarification--"foreclosed" was throwing me off.
