From an ex-pat in St Petersburg who I've recently friended:
All that assumes a limited war in a confined space. Russia told the US last week it had 3 demands and than any push to confront Russia means world nuclear war. The country is ready for it, and will no longer accept the encroachment by the US. Demand 1, change policy and accept the reality of a multipolar world, Demand 2. drop the sanctions which is an act of war. and compensate Russia for the economic loss due to the US crime, and Demand 3, stop encircling Russia with threatening actions, intense propaganda and placement of nuclear missiles aimed at Russia, on its border. Failing in these points means war of a scale the US can't win or even survive.
By the way, talks have started about returning Russian bases to Cuba and in other countries. Last week missiles capable of delivering nukes were reinstalled in Kaliningrad, right in the heart of northern Europe.
Despite the bluster and name calling and threats to Russia like unleashing terrorists to attack Russian cities that a spokesperson for the State Depart threatened last week, Obama blinked and ordered strikes against Syria and Russia to be halted temporarily, while Clinton is demanding attacking Russian aircraft.
Obama has pushed Russia too far and they are prepared to defend with all they have. Russia has shelters for most of their population and infrastructure less fragile than that of the US that has no civil defense system and very limited missile defense system. Most of the money spent on the military is offensive equipment designed for foreign wars, and spread out over 157 countries. The war would be long over before any of that equipment was moved to useful locations in the US.

I know Russia and Russians and they are not bluffing, they know war in ways Americans have no clue about, and they avoid war at all costs. But the line has been drawn and millions of Americans will die due to pigheadedness and treachery of the US neocon driven foreign policy that has put us right on the edge of all; out war. If you are in a country with US arms located or in the US and do not have a very deep shelter and a strong emergency plan, you are going to die. The bully has been stood up to, now either policy changes so make the US more aligned to the UN Charter principles, you are likely to die.

This all makes me glad I'm moving back to the middle of nowhere at the end of this month.

I have bad news for you. A nuclear war will make you wish you were dead, regardless of what hidey-hole you are cowering in. In fact, you will curse the bizarre notion of wishing to survive at all.

Via Jeff's facebook page, it looks like Putin is requesting that all Russians return home to "the motherland."

No, there has been a request that all family members of Russian diplomats and officials return to Russia, NOT all Russians. Big difference!

Also, it remains a request, not an order. Apparently, refusal to bring fam back to Russia may result in loss of opportunity for future career promotions. Doesn't exactly sound like they're planning on ringing in Armageddon just yet.

The US needs to calm down, eat a little crow and learn to adjust to new realities.

.......What he also noted was the limitations of the US style of keeping the Middle East's balance of power see-saw. The US keeps ME balance largely by adding to whatever side of the fulcrum demanded it. And never removing things from the see-saw. Removing implies error. And ego prohibits admission of errors. So politicians, regulators, diplomats only add to fix things. This meant they had to fine tune it constantly, as the slightest imbalance could create entropy that destroyed everything. And it is not just in the Middle East. It is the preferred way leaders solve problems in everything.

• 2008 TBTF Crisis: result, concentrating risk even more in banks and on exchanges
• The Tax Code: the document speaks for itself.
• The Middle East: arm our enemies to take out our bigger enemies. Then deal with the people we armed later

That is the US way. Solving event risk by compounding systemic risk.

Meanwhile Russia believes it is protecting itself from an aggressor. Russian's actions are related to domestic issues, not international. It can't effectively defend itself without quick access to the Atlantic. Putin has also been a fine student of using false pretense to get his way. Putin: “We are providing energy for the EU for the past 50 years. We are now working on a second project with Turkey".. to help even more. Hillary would be proud!

Russia: It's About the Port Stupid

Reuters: Russia to build permanent Syrian naval base, eyes other outposts. (10/10/2016) 11:20 AM

“In Syria, we will have a permanent naval base in Tartus. The corresponding documents have been drafted,” Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov said at a Federation Council meeting on Monday. “We hope that we will soon ask you to ratify these documents.”
Reuters described the move as “further evidence Russia is building up its capabilities in Syria” and “another sign it is digging in for the long haul to help prop up President Bashar al-Assad.” Reuters

MarketSlant: Russia isn't Bluffing, Hillary Won't Help- Military Source (10/10/2016) 10:59 AM

"Russia will not back down on Syria, Putin will not walk away from Assad as his ally.... Syria offers Russia the ONLY real water access on the Mediterranean side and therefore the Atlantic. They will not give up this port, It is a line in the sand for their defenses. Russia will (also) likely seek to expand its Atlantic footprint to hedge themselves"- full post here
All these things will continue as long as coercion remains a central element of our mentality.

They don't call it the Sunshine State for nothing!

Check out your state from the list at this old, weird website: http://www.ki4u.com/webpal/d_resources/list.htm

Not sure how accurate any of it is, but it's something what's the internet for if not for speculation?
