Sorry, apparently it was settled.

It's up to independent investigators now I guess. No tribunals against the global elite. Surprise.

if you’re surprised that jeffrey epstein killed himself last night, imagine how surprised he must have been

For those keeping score, CBS says Epstein was on suicide watch since late July (and their anchor makes clear in the video their understanding is that the watch was still in effect last night). NBC, citing multiple people familiar, says he wasn’t.

he was NOT FOUND DEAD

he died from cardiac arrest??????

From the NYC Medical Examiner:

OCME has an open case under the name of Jeffrey Epstein who was an inmate at Manhattan Correctional. Cause and manner of death are pending investigation.

emptywheel

Note, FBI investigation into his death may prevent/delay DOJ IG from investigating it (and why the fuck he wasn't on suicide watch).

The staff at Manhattan's MCC jail was also found unresponsive :)

Timeline: A call for an ambulance went out at approximately 6:40am Saturday morning. Epstein was being treated by members of the medical unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center and was administered CPR. Epstein died a short time later at an area hospital.

Jeffrey Epstein died in William Barr's custody. No bizarre theory changes that one inescapable fact.

Bill Barr:
“Death Wish, yeah,” Barr said. “That gives people a sense of satisfaction when they see it.”

We won’t know the truth about Jeffrey Epstein’s death until William Barr issues his 4 page summary.
FUN FACT: William Barr recused, then un-recused himself from the Jeffrey Epstein case.

Significant - Jail officials in statement say Epstein was in the Special Housing Unit at the MCC. This is important cause it means he was supposed to get special attention. So what happened here?

He got special attention!

Only ? is if Epstein left a Kill Switch 'in the event of his sudden demise'.

no way to hang yourself in jail cell

where is the footage?

NBC News

Attorney Lisa Bloom: "On behalf of the victims I represent, we would have preferred [Jeffrey Epstein] lived to face justice. Our civil cases can still proceed against his estate. Victims deserve to be made whole for the lifelong damage he caused. We’re just getting started."

First reaction: There should be hearings as to how this was allowed to happen to a key witness in an investigation involving a global sex-trafficking conspiracy.

there are on going investigations into other people

Epstein death does NOT preclude federal invesitgators and prosecutors from continuing to investigate any Epstein co-conspirators or anyone who covered up crimes he committed.

NYC Power Couple’s Butler Says Swedish Teen Told Him of Epstein Island Horrors
Rinaldo Rizzo testified about a girl he met at the home of his employers, Glenn and Eva Dubin.

Newly unsealed court documents in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal contain testimony from an ex-employee of New York City power couple Glenn Dubin and Eva Andersson-Dubin about a “distraught” Swedish teen’s claim that she was pressured to have sex on the pedophile financier’s private island.

Rinaldo Rizzo, a former house manager for the Dubins, was in tears as he described his 2005 encounter with the 15-year-old girl in his employers’ kitchen, according to excerpts of a 2016 deposition made public for the first time on Friday.

The butler said that as the girl sat on a stool at a long counter—where she was brought by Andersson-Dubin, an ex-girlfriend of Epstein—she reminded him of other girls he had seen at Epstein’s home.

He said she was “distraught and shaking... literally quivering” as she spoke about her dealings with Epstein’s alleged madam, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, and his personal assistant, Sarah Kellen, in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“She sat down and sat in the stool exactly the way the girls that I mentioned to you sat at Jeffrey’s house, with no expression and with their head down,” Rizzo testified.

Rizzo said that after Andersson-Dubin left the kitchen, he introduced himself and his wife to the teen.

“She doesn’t really respond,” Rizzo recalled. “Nothing verbal, no cues, her head is still down. I asked her if she would like some water, tissue, anything, and she basically doesn’t respond.”

Rizzo said he decided to try making small talk.

“Oh, by the way, do you work for Jeffrey?” he recalled asking.

“Yes,” the teen said, by his account.

“What do you do?” he asked.

“I’m Jeffrey’s executive assistant, personal assistant,” she replied.

She looked much too young for that, and Rizzo said he asked her how she got the job, how old she was.

“And she says to me, point blank, ‘I’m 15,’” Rizzo testified. “And I said to her. ‘You’re 15 years old and you have a position like that?’ At that point she just breaks down hysterical, and I feel like I just said something wrong, and she will not stop crying.”

“In a state of shock, she just lets it rip, and what she told me was unbelievable.”
— Rinaldo Rizzo, butler
According to the deposition, Rizzo and his wife tried to console her with words and renewed offers of water and tissue. Nothing worked.

“And then in a state of shock, she just lets it rip, and what she told me was unbelievable,” Rizzo testified. “She proceeded to tell my wife and I… 'I was on the island and there was Ghislaine, and there was Sarah,’ and she said, ‘They asked me for sex. I said no.’”

Rizzo later clarified, “She didn’t specify who asked for sex. She said they asked for sex.”

Rizzo testified that when she refused to have sex, Kellen took her phone and passport and gave them to Maxwell.

“And at that point, she said she was threatened,” Rizzo testified. “And I said, ‘Threatened?’ She says, ‘Yes. I was threatened by Ghislaine, not to discuss this.’”

Rizzo asked the teen if she had contacted her parents.

“She says, ‘I’m not supposed to talk about this,’” he recalled.

The teen reported that Epstein had also threatened her to keep quiet about what had gone on.

“The word she used was sex,” Rizzo testified, adding that it was clear the girl was in fear

“She was shaking uncontrollably,” he testified.

Rizzo said the girl stopped answering questions when she heard someone approaching the kitchen.

“Eva comes in and tells her that she will be working for Eva in the city,” Rizzo testified. “As a nanny.”

He said he saw the girl approximately a month later aboard a flight with the Dubin family to Sweden. She was dropped off at a Swedish airport.

Epstein was arrested last month and charged with sex-trafficking, accusing of recruiting dozens of underage girls to his homes in New York and Miami.

Rizzo’s testimony was submitted in a different case, a defamation suit brought by Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre against Maxwell. The case, which was settled in 2017 on confidential terms, contained a trove of documents the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ordered unsealed.

Those documents also revealed that Giuffre—who claims she was Epstein and Maxwell’s “sex slave”—had accused Glenn Dubin of being part of Epstein’s sex-trafficking ring, which he denies.

“Glenn and Eva Dubin are outraged by the allegations in the unsealed court records, which are demonstrably false and defamatory. The Dubins have flight records and other evidence that definitively disprove that any such events occurred,” a spokesperson for the Dubin family told The Daily Beast on Friday.

“Glenn and Eva Dubin are outraged by the allegations in the unsealed court records, which are demonstrably false and defamatory.”
— Dubin family statement
Andersson-Dubin, a former Miss Sweden and Ford model—now a philanthropist and doctor—told The New York Times right after Epstein's arrest that she was shocked by the sex trafficking allegations against her ex-boyfriend and they were “completely counter to the person she is familiar with.”

In a separate statement, the billionaire couple declared, “The Dubins are horrified by the new allegations against Jeffrey Epstein... Had they been aware of the vile and unspeakable conduct described in these new allegations, they would have cut off all ties and certainly never have allowed their children to be in his presence.”

Eva and Glenn Dubin have been married since 1994. He is a founder of Highbridge Capital and also launched the philanthropic Robin Hood Foundation and the Dubin Breast Cancer Center at Mt. Sinai after Eva's own experience with breast cancer. They have also signed Bill Gates and Warren Buffett's Giving Pledge, to give away a portion of their wealth in their lifetime—which is estimated by Forbes to be around $2 billion.

But before Glenn Dubin, Eva had another wealthy beau—Epstein. One dancer told The Daily Beast that she flew to Palm Beach in 1983 to teach Epstein and his guests ballet barre lessons and stretching. Two of those guests were Andersson-Dubin and another Swedish model with the Ford agency, she said.

According to the Times, Andersson-Dubin was in medical school when she met Epstein, and she remained close to him after she married Glenn Dubin—who also counted himself as a friend of Epstein. Bloomberg reported that Epstein had invested in Dubin’s hedge fund.

Jeffrey Epstein
Andersson-Dubin helped to reintroduce Epstein into Manhattan’s society circles after he was released from a Palm Beach jail, followed by house arrest, in 2010. “If Mr. Epstein had Dr. Andersson-Dubin’s friendship, it suggested to others that perhaps he should be given the benefit of the doubt,” a Times article pointed out.

“She's a very loyal friend and didn't abandon him after 2008, but the frequency of their contact was less,” the spokeswoman said.

As Business Insider revealed, the Dubins invited Epstein to their Palm Beach home for Thanksgiving dinner in 2009. In an email to Epstein’s probation officer, Eva wrote, “I am 100% comfortable with Jeffrey Epstein around my children,” while acknowledging Epstein was convicted of procuring a minor for prostitution. At the time, the couple’s three kids were underage, Business Insider reported.

Epstein appears to have funded Andersson-Dubin’s projects—particularly her passion for women’s health.

In July 2012, Epstein issued a press release touting his charity’s supposed donation to the Dubin Breast Center. “The Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, a provider of 3D mammography to test for breast cancer, announced it has received additional support from science philanthropist, Jeffrey Epstein and his foundation, The Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation,” the bulletin read.

The press release included a quote only from Epstein: “Early diagnosis is clearly critical to survival. We are very excited that 3D mammography is playing a role in stopping breast cancer from developing.”

The Daily Beast

According to Business Insider, Andersson-Dubin established a nonprofit in her daughter’s name, the Celina Dubin United Fund, in order to funnel Epstein’s money to the Dubin Breast Center. The article stated that Epstein “understood that a public donation from a registered sex offender might not be welcome.”

Celina Dubin United Fund’s tax-exempt application—reviewed by The Daily Beast—shows that the group's accountant, George V. Delson, is the same bookkeeper for Epstein’s former nonprofits, including the C.O.U.Q. Foundation and Epstein Interests.

The Celina Dubin United Fund was incorporated in October 2009, and listed Andersson-Dubin as the sole trustee, tax records show. A registration statement identified Brenda Ames, the CFO at Glenn Dubin's Highbridge Capital Management, as the group’s treasurer.

The nonprofit’s 2012 schedule of contributors, filed with the IRS, showed a single donor—the J. Epstein Virgin Islands Foundation, Inc., which donated $25,000. And a 2013 tax return listed a sole expense of $22,413, back to the J. Epstein Virgin Islands Foundation, Inc.

A statement attached to the 2013 tax form shows the Celina Dubin group terminated on Feb. 28, 2013, and that $22,413 would be returned to Epstein since it had not been used, per the agreement between Andersson-Dubin’s and Epstein’s charities. The March 2012 agreement was signed on Epstein’s behalf by his longtime attorney, Darren Indyke.

In March of this year, The Daily Beast exposed Epstein’s secret charity, Gratitude America Ltd., which was quietly created in 2012.

In 2016, Gratitude America Ltd. shelled out $50,000 to Harvard’s historic theater troupe, the Hasty Pudding Institute of 1770. After The Daily Beast’s story, the institute removed Epstein’s name from a roster of top donors on its website.

The Hasty Pudding website also lists “Eva & Glenn Dubin” as donors who’ve contributed $25,000 or more to the group. According to her LinkedIn page and photos of Hasty Pudding events, Celina Dubin was a member of the club.

Gratitude America also donated $10,000 to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, where Celina Dubin is a medical student.

Aside from the Dubins’ connections to Epstein through philanthropy, Glenn had encouraged Epstein to invest $80 million in a hedge fund by onetime wunderkind Daniel Zwirn from 2002 to 2005, according to reports in New York and Business Insider.

Zwirn was a former senior portfolio manager at Dubin’s Highbridge Capital. Epstein also invested in Highbridge in 1998, New York reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.

In 2006, Epstein had tried to withdraw his investment, which blossomed to $140 million, after he learned of accounting irregularities, including $3 million spent on a Gulfstream jet, which Zwirn claimed was purchased for him by the fund’s CFO without his knowledge.

Zwirn’s fund collapsed in 2008 after the Securities and Exchange Commission launched an investigation into its accounting. “One of the early investors that I introduced to Zwirn was Jeffrey Epstein,” Dubin stated in a 2010 affidavit, as part of a later lawsuit over Epstein’s lost millions. “Epstein was both a personal friend of mine and a long-time investor in [Highbridge].”

Meanwhile, Glenn Dubin’s name was mentioned in two depositions relating to Epstein’s abuse of underage girls, as part of the Jane Doe lawsuit against the government.

During a 2010 deposition of Epstein’s alleged co-conspirator and “sex slave” Nadia Marcinkova, victims’ lawyer Brad Edwards asked various questions, including “Do you know Bill Clinton?” and “Do you know what Jeffrey Epstein’s relationship is with Alan Dershowitz?”

Marcinkova pleaded the Fifth in response to each query.

“Do you know Glenn Dubin?” he asked the young woman.

She pleaded the Fifth.

Similarly, in a 2010 deposition of another alleged co-conspirator Adriana Ross (also known as Adriana Mucinska), lawyers asked:

“Can you tell us any of the other folks that Jeffrey Epstein would supply underage minor girls to?”

“I refuse to answer,” Ross said.

“Do you know a man by the name of Glenn Dubin?”

“I refuse to answer.”

“His wife at some point in time was associated with Jeffrey Epstein; is that correct?”

“I refuse to answer.”

“And her name’s Eva Dubin; is that right?”

“I refuse to answer.”

“Either way, isn’t it true that Jeffrey Epstein then started supplying underage females to Glenn Dubin?”

She refused to answer.

Seth Abramson

1) He told a journalist that for years he and Trump were "best friends"
2) He told a journalist he underwrote Trump's purchase of Mar-a-Lago
3) An associate told a journalist that Trump *went to Epstein's home* on 12/24/17
4) There are signs he managed cash for MBS

PS/ I came into possession of these facts personally, as I know the journalist. I facilitated this info being sent to major media, and nothing was done with it. From the start, I feared if the information were not published quickly, it would encourage the false representation...

PS2/ ...of the Epstein case as being disconnected from Trump, which would (in turn) lead to less vigilance in overseeing it. One of the things I feared was that Jeffrey Epstein would be killed or be allowed to kill himself. That has now come to pass, so I won't be silent anymore.

PS3/ None of those involved know the truth of Epstein's claims. But media must now investigate whether Epstein underwrote Mar-a-Lago, whether Trump visited Epstein's home around Christmas 2017, and whether the $18 billion in oil money Epstein was investing in the U.S. was MBS's.

PS4/ I'm livid at myself. As a journalist I knew this info had to go public as soon as possible, and said so to everyone. I knew there were dangers to it breaking too late. And now it's too late. There would've been more vigilance on Epstein if his ties to Trump had been clearer.

PS5/ All I can do now is say that Epstein claimed he and Trump had been best friends for years and that he underwrote Trump's Florida home, and that per an associate of his Trump was in that home in late December 2017, despite telling America he hadn't seen Epstein in many years.

PS6/ It's definite that Trump was in Florida during the period he allegedly visited Epstein's home. To do further work to confirm Trump was there would require an investigative team for a major-media outlet. And of *course* a journalist should also ask the president if it's true.

PS7/ I will repeat again that these are claims made by the late Jeffrey Epstein, so they will need to be further investigated. But I will also say that they were made to a journalist and that they track with public information, and therefore they have some indicia of reliability.

PS8/ That Epstein and Trump were very close for a period of time is clear, and there's even some *video* evidence to substantiate it. That Epstein has had a connection to Mar-a-Lago and even recruited at least one victim from Trump's Florida home (a Trump employee) is also clear.

PS9/ Epstein telling a journalist he was managing $18B in US investments for a Middle Easterner involved in oil, then the FBI finding a framed photo of MBS in his house, suggests, given that MBS is one of the few people in the world with $18B to invest, there may be a connection.

PS10/ I expect to have more to say about all of this in the coming days.

NOTE TO MEDIA/ The Trump-Epstein Florida visit was *approximately* December 24, 2017. The info is that it was a couple days before December 26, 2017, so December 22nd or 23rd is a possibility as well. That whole week in 2017 (during which Trump was in Florida) must be looked at.

NOTE TO READERS/ As should be very clear from this thread, I'm not making *any* claims about Trumpworld involvement in Epstein's death. I am passing on claims by Epstein and saying if media had done more with this info earlier perhaps Epstein would have been more closely watched.

Opinions
Jeffrey Epstein’s apparent suicide is unfathomable

By Harry Litman
Contributing columnist
August 10 at 12:47 PM
For anyone familiar with Bureau of Prisons standard operating procedures, Jeffrey Epstein’s apparent suicide is more than mysterious; it is unfathomable.
The 66-year-old accused sex trafficker was found dead in his prison cell at the Metropolitan Correction Center (MCC) Saturday morning, apparently after having hanged himself.
The Bureau of Prisons, the federal agency that runs the MCC, has said the FBI will investigate.
It had better.

An exterior view of the Metropolitan Correctional Center jail where financier Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in New York on Aug. 10. (Jeenah Moon/Reuters)
Epstein’s death almost certainly means that astounding blunders occurred, perhaps by multiple personnel at the Bureau of Prisons (BOP).
If any prisoner in the federal system should have been a candidate for suspicion of suicide, it was the high-profile and disgraced Epstein. All administrative and structural measures should have been in place to ensure it could not happen. And yet it apparently did.
First, consider the MCC itself. It is a high-rise, forbidding administrative detention facility in the south of Manhattan. Its population consists almost entirely of prisoners, like Epstein, awaiting trial in federal court in Manhattan. It has been referred to as the “Guantanamo of New York” for its stringent security measures. It is the facility of choice for notorious federal defendants, often in special administrative segregation units, having previously housed John Gotti, Bernard Madoff, Omar Abdel Rahman and, recently, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
In other words, it is the very place to put a high-profile and potentially suicidal defendant such as Epstein.
Second, consider the BOP’s suicide prevention protocol. Epstein was found last month unconscious in his MCC cell with marks on his neck. If he was not on suicide watch, it would be astonishing. Yet if he were on suicide watch, his death would be virtually inconceivable.
The BOP’s suicide prevention protocol entails, first and foremost, human eyes on the prisoner 24 hours a day. It also requires a strict deprivation of anything — shoelaces, sheets, pillowcases — that could possibly be used to hang oneself. It also requires disabling anything that could be used to tie a noose — vents, sprinkler heads, etc.
Finally, we are not talking about inexperienced yokels. BOP personnel, especially at MCC, are the best professionals in the corrections industry, and they receive special training in administrating suicide prevention. Who better to guard against such a horrific development?
At this point, questions abound, and BOP has to address them promptly.
The first: Was Epstein on suicide watch, and if not, why not? Among the reports cascading out in the few hours since Epstein’s body was found are anonymous statements that Epstein had been on suicide watch but was taken off it. If so, the decision to remove him appears to have been a colossal error that must be thoroughly probed.
The second: How exactly did Epstein manage to kill himself, and why exactly was it that he had access to the tools?
Third, is there a video of Epstein’s cell at the crucial time? There should be, and it will reveal exactly how and when Epstein killed himself.
And none of this begins to address the royal mess it leaves in the efforts to take stock of Epstein’s crimes and their prior slap-on-the-wrist treatment, nor the shambles in which it leaves Epstein’s victims.
Almost certainly, we will know a lot more in a few days. But it seems certain that when the facts are known, this will stand as one of the biggest black eyes in the history of the Bureau of Prisons.

‘HILLARY’D!’ : Conspiracy Theories Erupt After Jeffrey Epstein’s Death
The hashtags were out in force Saturday morning, running well ahead of the facts.

Kelly Weill
Reporter
Updated 08.10.19 2:30PM ET / Published 08.10.19 11:34AM ET

Moments after billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was announced dead in what law enforcement sources described as an apparent suicide in his New York City jail cell, conspiracy theories about his death erupted.

Epstein, 66, was being held on child sex-trafficking charges for his role in allegedly procuring underage girls for wealthy men. He had been on suicide watch in the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan after a previous suicide attempt last month, raising questions about how he could have managed to kill himself while imprisoned.

While some pointed to a history of negligence in New York City jails (though MCC is a federal facility), others were quick to claim various Epstein associates had done him in.

It’s not surprising that Epstein’s death would be such rich fodder for conspiracy theories; he had documented connections with the wealthy and powerful on both sides of the political aisle. Court filings by his accusers allege a plot in which Epstein and his associates recruited underage girls and forced them to have sex with Epstein’s associates. Reports of the alleged crime ring fed into other, more speculative theories, including those with a strong partisan bias that only implicate Epstein associates from one side of the political spectrum.

Questions over Epstein’s suicide watch fanned those flames on Saturday. Epstein had reportedly recently left suicide watch when he died on Saturday, raising questions about why he was not being monitored.

“Hillary’d!!” Lynne Patton, a Trump-appointed head of public housing in New York and New Jersey posted on Instagram shortly after Epstein was reported dead. “P.S. Let me know when I’m supposed to feel badly about this…”

Patton concluded the post with a hashtag alluding to a right-wing conspiracy theory that falsely claims the Clinton family orchestrated the death of a former deputy White House Counsel. (Patton is a former Trump family event planner, who’s falsely implied that she attended Yale.)

FOX Business host Lou Dobbs tweeted a similar version of the theory claiming that Epstein “Epstein should have been at least on Arkanside Watch,” a mashup of “suicide” and Bill Clinton’s home state of Arkansas.

Patton and Dobbs were far from the only social media user to implicate the Clintons in Epstein’s death. On Saturday morning, “Another Clinton,” “#ClintonBodyCount,” and “#ClintonCrimeFamily” trended on Twitter, alongside “‘Suicide’” (in quotation marks) and “Prince Andrew.”

Prince Andrew was named in court documents unsealed Friday from an alleged Epstein victim who claimed he trafficked her to wealthy men including Prince Andrew, lawyer Alan Dershowitz, former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Wall Street billionaire Glenn Dubin, and foreign heads of state. (The men deny these allegations.)

Former President Bill Clinton was not named, although he has been linked to Epstein. Clinton took trips on Epstein’s plane in 2002 and 2003, and Epstein visited the Clinton White House, The Daily Beast previously reported.

The conspiratorial posts were not limited to the right. Epstein is also a former Trump associate, and was filmed discussing women with Trump at a party. The woman who accused Epstein of trafficking her at age 16 said she had been working at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort when Epstein recruited her.

Claire McCaskill, a former Democratic senator from Missouri appeared to imply foul play with a Saturday morning tweet.

“Something stinks to high heaven,” McCaskill wrote. “How does someone on suicide watch hang himself with no intervention? Impossible. Unless.....”

(Followers replied that Trump was involved in the death.)

Joe Scarborough, an MSNBC host and former Republican congressman (now a registered independent) appeared to blame Russian interference for the death.“A guy who had information that would have destroyed rich and powerful men’s lives ends up dead in his jail cell. How predictably...Russian,” Scarborough tweeted. “He reportedly tried to kill himself two weeks ago. And is allowed to finish the job now? Bullshit.”

Epstein’s death is under investigation, law enforcement officials told The Daily Beast on Saturday. Meanwhile, Twitter personality Seth Abramson suggested Epstein’s death was the result of a hit by Saudi officials, via a link with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. (Abramson also riffed on a different theory of Epstein’s death, claiming the Clinton hashtags were only trending because Russian bots were trying to distract from Trump’s involvement.)

Meanwhile followers of the far-right QAnon conspiracy theory suggested that Epstein faked his death. Believers in the theory circulated a picture of a corpse and questioned whether it looked like Epstein.

Re: Billionaire Pedophile Jeffrey Epstein Goes Free

The extent to which the spectacle has had to even engage with this has been interesting to watch -- vindication, I guess, that Silicon Valley can still traffick in disruption, or at least proof that Twitter has completely corroded Moldbug's Cathedral. That feedback loop between journalists, pundits and audience has exploded into a Lee Scratch Perry dub and we're in for some very strange times before the leaves turn orange & brown.

(And really, who could fault the intellectuals at Buzzfeed, WaPo, or Daily Beast for simply assembling a few hundred words around a half dozen twitter screenshots and publishing that ASAP? They're optimizing for clicks, not content. The news was never news, anyway.)

Hours out from the crime, there's still mostly rumors afoot. Near as I can tell, ol' boy got transferred to MCC on July 9th. That's a lot of time to coordinate with. Claims are made that the cameras malfunctioned and no footage exists, but nothing on the record yet. Claims are made that guards were asked to leave, but again, vague and hard to attribute so far. Even what lurks "on the record" is smoke and mirrors -- witness this maddening riddlespeak, from Reuters:

It was not immediately clear why Epstein was taken off suicide watch, and officials did not respond to requests for comment.

At the MCC, two jail guards are required to make separate checks on all prisoners every 30 minutes, but that procedure was not followed overnight, according to the source, who was not authorized to speak on the record.

In addition, every 15 minutes guards are required to make another check on prisoners who are on suicide watch.

Five key words here: "which included a conspiracy count."

This is the SDNY's way of saying: this ain't over and nobody who helped Epstein traffic and rape children should breathe easy.

Various reports state that Epstein had been removed from suicide watch.

If so, BOP guidelines require written justification for such a decision.

Former MCC inmate: There’s ‘no way’ Jeffrey Epstein killed himself
By Bruce Golding and Brad Hamilton August 10, 2019 | 6:17pm | Updated

The following account is from a former inmate of the Metropolitan Correction Center in lower Manhattan, where Jeffrey Epstein was found unresponsive Saturday, and declared dead at a hospital of an apparent suicide. The ex-convict, who spoke to The Post’s Brad Hamilton and Bruce Golding on the condition of anonymity, spent several months in the 9 South special housing unit for high-profile prisoners awaiting trial — like Epstein.

There’s no way that man could have killed himself. I’ve done too much time in those units. It’s an impossibility.

Between the floor and the ceiling is like eight or nine feet. There’s no way for you to connect to anything.

You have sheets, but they’re paper level, not strong enough. He was 200 pounds — it would never happen.

When you’re on suicide watch, they put you in this white smock, a straight jacket. They know a person cannot be injurious to themselves.

The clothing they give you is a jump-in uniform. Everything is a dark brown color.

Could he have done it from the bed? No sir. There’s a steel frame, but you can’t move it. There’s no light fixture. There’s no bars.

They don’t give you enough in there that could successfully create an instrument of death. You want to write a letter, they give you rubber pens and maybe once a week a piece of paper.

Nothing hard or made of metal.

And there’s a cop at the door about every nine minutes, whether you’re on suicide watch or not.

There’s up to 80 people there. They could put two in cell. It’s one or two, but I’ll never believe this guy had a cellmate. He was too blown up.

The damage that unit can do to someone.

It’s like you’re an animal and you’ve been brought into a kennel. A guy like Jeffrey, it’s like, “Holy sh-t.”

I told my parents not to come there. God wasn’t in the building.

I’ve had some heavy incidents in the building. What happened is permanent.

Some of the guards are on a major power trip. They know guys there are suffering. They know something the rest of the world hasn’t seen, that a place like this exists in this country, and they get off on it.

If the guards see that the guy is breaking, they’re going to help you break.

But it’s my firm belief that Jeffrey Epstein did not commit suicide. It just didn’t happen.

Jeffrey Epstein could have ‘paid’ for help with suicide: Former Gotti pal

The jail where Jeffrey Epstein apparently hanged himself was a nest of corruption in the early ’90s, according to one of late mobster John Gotti Sr.’s top associates — who insists it’s still a place where almost anything can be bought if you have the bucks.

“If he killed himself someone had to have helped him,” said Lewis Kasman, a onetime close confidant of the Dapper Don who visited the godfather several times at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in 1992.

“There are cameras going 24/7 and they’re watching 24/7. Someone had to give [Epstein] the equipment to kill himself and he had to pay for it dearly,” said Kasman, who has kept abreast of conditions in the lockup.

Kasman added: “That facility for years had issues of corruption, with correction officers bringing in food or cellphones for wealthy people.”

The former Gambino bean counter noted that Gotti, who did time both in the jail’s 9 South and 10 South units, its most secure wings, still managed to get his favorite steak dinner sneaked in: “He had Peter Luger’s whenever he wanted.”

Kasman said he heard US Attorney General William Barr personally made a hush-hush trip to the MCC two weeks ago, about the time Epstein was found in his cell with bruises around his neck.

“When does that happen?” he asked. “The attorney general never visits jails. Something’s not right there.”

Kasman said the facility was “totally disgusting — worse than Guantanamo Bay.”

“There are roaches crawling all over you — in every orifice — when you sleep. The Bureau of Prisons’ answer to that is that they can’t spray. It’s toxic.”

Reps for the jail did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

curious - if the charged party dies, how precisely is a case dismissed?

can, say, additional parties be added before the case is dismissed?
