I didn't vote for Obama, and I didn't expect him to do this, but my standard for him to be good (as president) was to come in like W. Bush. Have an agenda and do whatever it takes to pass it. He had more of a mandate than Bush ever had to do that. He tried to accommodate with the apocalyptic right immediately, he speaks out of both sides of his mouth about nearly every issue, and sticks his finger to the wind to discern where he's going to stand on something that day. In short a spineless, ineffectual, corporatocracy puppet...

After Nader ostensibly lost/"spoiled" the election for Al Gore, a lot of people tried to say that the two parties are different... It's true the Rethugs are way out there, but what they have done if anything is pulled the Democratic Party rightward, so whatever the difference is between the two, the whole system seems to perpetually being drifting more and more to the right. The only way to challenge that is to build a left outside of the duopoly, so there will actually be a choice at some point in the near or distant future.

Ya think?

It's titled "Fuck Obama".

And yes, its purpose for existence seems to be to chronicle and compile all the reasons to, well, say "Fuck Obama".

You can come in here and say whatever you want, but to act surprised by the reaction you get when you defend the indefensible is just nonsensical.

I can't think of anybody who defends anything about Obama anymore. All the true believers, god bless em, essentially shrug their shoulders and say "well, I dunno". THAT WAS THE FUCKING POINT ABOUT OBAMA. Isn't that obvious?

I didn't vote for the first time in my life, simply because of this Obama. Why, because it's obvious. You can't overthrow a criminal regime by voting in a dude who is to take over the spot where jurisprudence failed and was NEVER ADDRESSED in the span that criminal regime was able to wreak it's havoc after it stole the election in which all of this contemporary history is hinged. Obama is a disgrace to all of the Democrats of whom I happen be the offspring of. I will always be a Democrat as long as I have a time machine. But I do not have a time machine. Thus, I am now a "conservative". How some of you can even defend this Obama is beyond me.

Rule number one: Never, ever trust a cult of personality coming on the heels of another phony cult of personality as though it is a solution to the prior cult of personality. This is your first clue. America is so FUBAR it's not even fucking funny.

I wonder if there will be a Dem primary challenger? Not that it matters but it would be interesting to watch, at any rate.

Well, I can think of at least one. ;)

Defending Obama after it became obvious that his administration had already surrendered to the Bush agenda from day one must be a little like being one of those Japanese soldiers who was still fighting World War II thirty years after the Surrender of Japan.

(Of course those undaunted Japanese soldiers lived on little islands in the South Pacific, and didn't know anything — much like the Obama apologists today who clearly don't know anything, either.)

Please let me make my remarks directly to your message, Cowbell: it ignores gross injustices currently being perpetrated by the Obama Administration — which are many of the exact same injustices which were perpetrated by the Bush Administration, and sometimes even worse! — and I think that message is contemptible.

On topic: May the frac drilling continue!

Obama Admin Rejects Timeout for Natural Gas Drilling in N.Y., Pa.

By MIKE SORAGHAN of Greenwire
Published: September 22, 2010

The Obama administration has decided against pressing for a temporary halt to Marcellus Shale drilling in Pennsylvania and New York, a key federal official said.

Brig. Gen. Peter "Duke" DeLuca, commander of the North Atlantic Division of the Army Corps of Engineers, last week declined a request from Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-N.Y.) to use the federal government's vote on the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) to seek a temporary ban on gas production in the Delaware watershed.

Hinchey wants drilling there to wait until the commission completes a "cumulative impact statement," but DeLuca said that could delay drilling for years.

"The citizens of the basin are counting on the commission to make smart choices that allow for environmental protection to proceed together with economic development," DeLuca wrote in the Sept. 14 letter (pdf).

The letter was written a day before Lt. Col. Philip Secrist, representing DeLuca and the Obama administration on the commission, voted to continue limited exploratory drilling in the basin. The vote denied a request by environmental groups seeking to block the drilling of test wells that were "grandfathered in" when the commission imposed a de facto moratorium.

long term, there is no more pressing issue than destroying the so-called conservative movement in this country. The only way to do that is to keep them out of power permanently. Every decision is being made with regard to how it's going to play with the half-brainwashed electorate and the lamestream media. There is no more important goal in the world right now than preventing republican tea party takeover of the congress. Because if that happens, all bets are off and everyone can just go whistle, if that happens this election, it's over. For good. There will be zero hope of ever shaking their stranglehold on the hearts and minds of a sufficient segment of the population to get them out of power in any of our lifetimes.

Every evil policy of the bush administration grows out of the soil of so-called conservatism. Out of the dirt of the republican party. When "the people" stop begging to be raped by their corporate overlords, only then will it be possible to change policy in this country, which is ruled by elections (bought and under limited control though they are). Progressives need to stop begging politicians to do the right thing and start convincing the majority of voters to demand the right thing. Politicians will only and can only do what the electorate demands of them.

If Obama followed though on the wishes of the purists (and myself) on this board, they'd be burning him at the state right now. Think about it.

justdrew, Obama is a conservative. Why do you think so many progressives are eating crow now?

There already is zero hope of political solutions in this country.

"Politicians will only and can only do what the electorate demands of them."

I give up.

Oh wait, I already gave up. Can't do it twice.
